    Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom, known in Japan as Ninja Ryūkenden III: Yomi no Hakobune "Legend of the Ninja Dragon Sword III: The Ark from Hades" is a side-scrolling platforming video game developed and published by Tecmo. It was released in Japan on June 26, 1991 for the Famicom and in North America in August 1991 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The NES version was not released in Europe. It was later ported to the Atari Lynx by Atari and released in 1993 in North America and Europe, the European version retaining the North American Ninja Gaiden III title. It was also that re-released as part of its Ninja Gaiden Trilogy.A handheld version was release later with five new boss.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Super NES compilation in 1995 in Japan and North America. Long after, it was released for the Virtual Console service in North America on February 18, 2008 for the Wii and in North America and Europe on November 28, 2013 and January 23, 2014 respectively for the Nintendo 3DS. It was designed by Masato Kato, who took over for Hideo Yoshizawa-designer of the first two games in the NES series.Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom takes place between the events of the original Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos.The story opens with Irene Lew, one of the protagonists in the first two Ninja Gaiden titles, an agent for the Central Intelligence Agency on a mission called "Cardinal".
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    She gets chased to the edge of a cliff by a man who looks like Ryu Hayabusa, when the edge gives way, and Irene falls in the water to her apparent death. Ryu is accused of Irene's murder but says it was not him, that it was somebody else who looked like him who tried to frame him.He first investigates a laboratory that Irene was investigating. After going through the laboratory, a mysterious man appears and tells Ryu to go the Castle Rock fortress, where he will give Ryu more information about Irene when he gets there.Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom is a side-scrolling platform game in which the player controls the player character Ryu Hayabusa as he investigates the events of Irene Lew's death.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In the game, Ryu can jump, hang, and climb up and down walls with the control pad; pressing the jump button while holding the control pad the direction away from the wall causes Ryu to spring off the wall. Ryu is also able to attack enemies with secondary weapons while on a wall by pressing the attack button.A new feature introduced in Ninja Gaiden III is the ability for Ryu to hang overhead from pipes or ivy; he can swing up on top or drop from them, and as with walls, he can only attack enemies while hanging with secondary weapons.As with the previous Ninja.Level 7-1 is one of my favorite level ever made on the nes.The parallax scrolling is amazing.Please comments like and subs if you like this run.
    I just finished this game for the first time in over 25 years today on Thanksgiving. It took me a couple of days to relearn most of it. Some stages were almost like muscle memory from probably playing through them so many times while others I had almost completely forgotten. Had to even relearn how to defeat each boss. These old Nintendo games were all about the effort and repetition. Have to admit that even at 44 years of age there's a still a sense of pride in defeating it. What a phenomenal game!
    23:30 was the start of a renewed emotional awakening for me back in 2001. I watched my brother play up to this stage all day (we used to take turns and share games back in the day), and it was getting pretty late at night. A small chime of this song started and he put the TV on mute so we wouldn't wake our parents up. I hated that because I liked to hear the game, and shortly afterward he gave up because he kept dying. Coming back to this game a few years later after high school, I finally made it to this point and was able to hear the song. This song, this scene, the entire reunion made me feel like I was part of it because I finally arrived at this chapter of the game. Mind you, I never beat the game, I couldn't make it past the third iteration of Clancy, but I felt like I finally made it to that friggin' spot where my brother so rudely muted the game. Blasphemy.
    just beat this. one thing they really got right with this game is that enemies usually don't respawn after you kill them. you can be patient and clear the screen of enemies, something you kind of couldn't do in the first 2 (particularly those birds). also the big blade is a super satisfying powerup. i get the sense that design-wise, this would be the easiest of the 3 nes games if it wasn't for limited continues and the player taking more damage.
      Really good points. The version on the SNES Trilogy (which is similar to the original Japanese release) is as you stated, less damage and unlimited continues and it's super easy. So glad they amped up the difficulty on the original North American release.     Congrats. This is no easy to do. I finished it today too no death. I can't believe I did it. The ultimate challenge for this game is beating it with no damage. It's very difficult, but very possible.
    Man, you nearly died by the timer on the final boss (17 seconds left)!!!! I honestly thought it wasn't possible to clear the entire 7th level on account of that timer. I always purposely died to restart the clock during stage 7-3. Well Done!!!
      You have a good point here and i do agree with you but remember that ninja gaiden is all about gaming perfection...and when i say gaming perfection, i am not talking about how good the game is, i am talking about the "pursuit of excellence" of the gamers skills. Ninja gaiden is probably the best example on the system for the game that push the gamers skills to the limit to obtain "close to perfection skills" in order to finish the game. The series is really a masterpiece of developing process when you think about it but also the perfect example of pure challenge.
      +Heroes of Xanadu - Sloth
      Not only that, but it was also a way to make the game longer. I absolutely loved those 3 games and still play them, though not through entirely genuine NES experience anymore... (I miss those days) and I can't agree more about your point on "pursuit of excellence of the gamers' skills". Every enemy were placed in strategic positions to punish you if you simply reacted instead of analyzing the situation you're in as fast as you can.
      +Ravinder Jassal
      After a couple of rage quits + acknowledging the fact that your parents don't have 30 - 50$ to spend on another game you might not like, you toughen up and accept you're going to die a lot before you can progress. And believe me, we were resourceful :P
      boredbeyondbelief Thanks you, because of the time limit in ninja gaiden 3, i had to abused the fire wheel in level 7 to saved enough time for a no death run. The timer does not reset so you have to do the whole level and defeat the Three bosses at the end with the same time limit. The spikes are the most time-consuming factor in the whole level.Hope that help. > Good Luck!
    Curiosamente la versión japonesa de esta tercera parte es mucho más facil (cuenta con password, los enemigos no te bajan tanto, hay más items útiles en las esferas, etc. etc.), personalmente este juego bajó su calidad con respecto a la segunda parte, pero queda como un buen cierre para la trilogía, ya que en la primera Ryu prometió acabar con Foster y aquí lo cumple... me quedo con el soundtrack de 4-1A o 7-1A (es el mismo) ya que actualmente lo tengo en mi mp3 y es una música bastante motivante para la lucha. Lo que debo felicitarte es que pasaste todo el nivel 7 con una sola vida y con 17 segundos de tiempo restante, eso es para quitarse el sombrero (nunca yo pude hacerlo, al menos aquí gasto una vida más) Sin lugar a dudas esta trilogía resume la acción, trama y suspenso que tenían las películas de esa época. Felicitaciones y Saludos.
    PD. He visto que han hecho remakes completos del soundtrack de la primera y segunda parte, espero que pronto tambien lo hagan con toda la música de este gran juego, ya que se lo merece hace bastante tiempo.
