- Arguably one of the most durable diesel motors built, the first gen Cummins 12 valve. This 1991 Dodge Ram 250 turbo diesel Cummins has been ABANDONED and sitting for 10 years. In this video we will see if we can get it running where it has been sitting, and possibly take it for a drive… Let us know what would be good upgrades to do to this inline 6 12 valve!
What would be some good first upgrades without breaking the bank?
fuel pin (thd is nice), 3200 gov spring, tune pump and can pull it towards the head some to advance timing, find a nice used hx35 the non ic have the smallest turbo. The non IC run pretty damn strong though with these minor mods, they have larger injectors and the pump flows more than the IC. Also gonna want to get a pyro to keep an eye on things.
@@Roost426 thanks a tons for the info! Will utilize this in the build for sure.
That truck is the typical Dodge and Cummins story. The truck is in bad shape and ready for the crusher but the Cummins never wants to give up
Facts!
Wonderful you guys put her back on the road. Nothing will kill a 12v that's in a pickup truck, that motor is so understressed even when the truck is at max towing and load capacity. One of the top 10 best engines ever produced in this world!
I agree!
Stumbled upon this while looking for videos on how to get a 2005 Silverado diesel my dad has sitting around running again. Thoroughly entertained from start to finish lol just maybe get a stand for your phone to get better shots in the truck cabin and you got yourself a winning formula. Keep it up.
Highly appreciate the advice. Tripod is on its way as we speak! Good luck with the Duramax.
Everytime i see a revial video almost everyone doed the little vice grip garage hand thang 😂 Love it
love VGG
Boy Howdy the ol 1st gen 12 Valves are beast!🇺🇸

Sniff it like you want it… big shooter
I love that truck. Reminds me of my truck i have now except it is not a diesel.
Nice body style
5.9 Cummins will never let you down. As long as you never let her down

@@JakeLashawayrun better?
If anyone personally has one of these trucks please get in touch with me. I just bought one, and I neeed assistance on replacing parts under the hood. Mines a Dodge D250 Custom. 4 speed with a 6 cylinder engine. Anything will help! Thanks
should be some good forums out there
I’ll be damned if I don’t feel like I’ve been sitting since 2012 too🫠
I like the truck very much..great but👍
It’s a beast
My dad bought a 1st gen 93 new before he passed away. I inherited the truck with 50,000 miles on it and planned to use it to tow my boat, but quickly learned that his truck was a DOG! it had no power and couldn't get out of it's own way. I had a Banks conversion kit installed with intercooler etc.., but never saw much improvement. I took it to a cummings diesel mechanic shop and they told me that the transmissions were the weak link in these trucks and they could rebuild it and put a "Kit" in it and I should see better performance. After the rebuild the truck was still scary to drive. No power to merge into traffic of the freeway and forget about towing anything. This tuck was such a dog that I parked it in my shop and it has been there now for over 20 years. I had to laugh when I walked out a few weeks ago and seen that the passenger side head light bracket had dry rotted and broke. The head light is looking at the ground as if the truck itself realizes that its no good. I think that the only vehicle that has been more disappointing than this truck was the Oldsmobile Diesel that came out in the 80's. Basically a V8 gas engine that was converted to Diesel. Never could keep head bolts it that car. My dad loved diesels and bought what was available at the time. For me I have only experienced disappointment.
This comment is very surprising to me…
whats a cummings you retard
My 89 dodge Cummins towed a 30' houseboat with ease!
@@Mr-er6fgwow! They are tanks!
Damn she sounds good
Sure does! Have it in a 69’ Dodge crew cab now
great memories ...i just rescue a early 99 f250 7.3 and i know how expensive is it
very nice!
Might want to upgrade the front fender.
Lol, we are only using the chassis and motor for a build… the test will be scrapped unless someone wants it
@@RealSteelFabrications if y'all are junking the body, then might could get something worked out. Got a beat up project that could use the less beat up parts.
@@ctbradeywish I saw this sooner
I got a 92 that cranks but won’t throttle up any help ?
Honestly this was our first diesel so we are learning about them also.
That has seen better days, maybe a good engine for something else
For sure! How about a 69’ Dodge crewcab…
No way leave it in there and hammer out dents
@@MidnightPolaris800to late
you can tell its an early 91 because non intercooled
Yep
Could and coulda got a none ac belt would fix that problem
Believe the non a/c trucks have an extra pulleys in place of where the compressor would be so different length
Nothing sounds like a first gen when they crack off.
facts
How did the dash not crack...
no clue
Let’s not copy vice Grip with hand gestures etc.. Do your own thing!
I’ll admit, he wears off on me
And it dies when I try put it in reverse
I would love to have that bad boy!
We were super glad to find it at a good price! Crazy build on the channel soon….
I’m busy right now cleaning up those door and wiper parts I bought for you the other day. They look good!
@@maxhammontree3169 glad to hear!
Why it’s clapped and the only salvageable thing is the engine
@@rock-uu7qrput it in a 69’ Dodge
Man I’d love to have this if y’all ever expand to charity 😅
It’s all chopped up now. Using the chassis and drivetrain for a 69’ Dodge
Body swap it to a 70s
Something like that, 69….
Would you sell me it
Everything but the chassis/engine/tranny lol. So basically just the junk body
