  • 1993 Dodge Ram first Gen 5.9 Cummins. This truck has been outfitted out by a camper company and has a full size sleeper on the back of the cab! I have never seen anything like this and honestly do not know much about the rig other than it is soooo cool! Today we will be trying to get the old 5.9 intercooled diesel to fire up and hit the road once again.

    My dad had an early 90’s squarebody Chevy dually. Had full wood grain console, with built in tv/vcr that opened up at the rear of the console for us kids in the back. Wooden Interiors were top of the line and so cool in those days. Now when you see one though it looks so ancient.

      @chrisharris0130 Год назад +2

      I may be wrong in the vcr part, because I can distinctly remember there being one of those boomerang looking antennas on top of the cab, so it may have just had tv and whatever channel you could pick up from the antenna/boomerang thing 😂

    • @wysoft

      @@chrisharris0130 if it had a TV I'm sure it did have a VCR. Had a cousin with an early 90s Chevy conversion van that had a mini VCR under the TV. Both mounted in a wood grain cabinet. I know what you mean, back then those wood grain interiors on conversion vehicles seemed like a hotel on wheels.

  • @JaughnDough
    @JaughnDough 11 месяцев назад +2

    The intercooler was only added midway through the 1991 model year to meet the new emissions standards. It had nothing to do with power. The non-intercooled trucks actually have the *potential* to make more power due to larger injectors. All 1989-1993 trucks made the same 160HP and 400 ft-lbs of torque.

      My dad and uncle both bought a pair of 97 Cummins after taking a drive in log buyers Cummins 24v H.O. My dad sold it in 07 and got the newer 6.7 Cummins. The ppl who bought that truck still have it. They've put 2 beds on it, fenders, etc cause of rust. It's still going. We delivered them a tree length load of firewood weeks ago. It's got over 700k. Same engine, trans, rear-end. It was a automatic 4x4 single cab. Uncles was a extended cab 6 speed with a jake brake for pulling trailers. Both had regular service. After the 6.7 was bought the VGT actuator that moves the vanes in turbo went out. He kept it until 2015 and went with 6.4 hemi 4x4 .75 ton. Had new cams from the issue with cylinder deactivation. And trans was rebuilt. 279k. Uncles saw half million miles with no issues. I believe both had the pin issue corrected? I'm not sure. I left for Marines and idr if they got it done or not. Their truck driver had a 95 12v. It had over 500k. Best diesels ever. His log loader had a Cummins for powerplant.

      @kitjasabsgabs1830 Someone told me a long time ago that these particular Cummins engines were good for a million miles! I honestly believe it, today! My 2500 is suffering from severe rust issues at the moment. Both vehicles run incredibly well! A buddy of mine is pushing me to do a body swap, but I'm thinking more like doing a rat rod project. Both trucks are 2 wd automatics. I figured going rat rod would keep me from doing any kind of heavy work & give the mechanicals & frame a little longer lifespan. The dually would then do All of the hauling & towing. BTW, I'm a former SEABEE. Thanks for your service!🇺🇸

    That was built back in the early days of "Hot Shotting" when owner-operators first figured out that they could do one way runs for decent money and not have to go through a big company for the work...
    A lot of people I knew were into that business... And they made boatloads of cash doing it!
    A lot of them hauled classic cars from here to there and would usually pick up another to bring back from their destination or somewhere in the area.
    I also knew a guy that hauled those giant wooden swingsets with "forts" on them... He'd haul one from the manufacturer in Kentucky to some place like Colorado, then pick up say a '56 Buick in Colorado and take it to Missouri and then pick up an old camper and haul it back to Indiana on his way home... That four day run would net him about Six Grand... Nothing to sneeze at, especially back in the Nineties!

    I have a 92 D350 with a very similar conversion except mines a 2 door. That back bed most likely folds up into a regular seat. My truck's has a motor and a switch up in the ceiling. The big box in the ceiling between the two front seats thats open to the back most likely had a CRT from the factory. These conversion dodges are super rare and extremely little is known about them. Western Hauler did make a few, you can check every window and see if any of them have western hauler etched on them. Otherwise ive never been able to find out what company built my conversion and the other 10 or 15 that were exactly like it. Mines up to 1.5 million miles, most of these were hot shot rigs so even though they were driven to the moon and back they received allll the preventative maintenence. Mine was sitting in Oregon for 10 years and had the same type of dirt and grime that this one did. Flew out, got her running right and drove her back to the east coast. It was the trip of a lifetime hahaha. Then I daily'd her for 2 years without many issues!

    I like your style man. It is funky looking. That pressure washer is so useful. It sounded good as soon as it started up. Great video. Careful filming its horn not working while you're on city streets.

    There is one of these trucks near my house, not with the camper, but you can just tell it's a beast and rare model. Nothing else like it

    Had a 94 f250 with a cummins. Best engine ever but those dodges are a nightmare. I also had an 89 cummins 250 and it was a rust bucket and wiring was hell.
