  • Light weight crane built on my service truck. Pretty much nothing more than a cable crane similar to the vintage Auto Cranes.

    I don't know if you already installed RF remotes but let me tell you in advance you will not want to use 12-volt controls if you are sharing the battery. 12-volt RF controls will drop out under heavy loads and you will experience continued dropout similar to loose wiring which is just low voltage drop out. I suggest you 1) use a separate battery that only charges from your truck via diode, or 2) use a 5-volt controller which has a regulator. Nice looking crane.

    Could you do a updated video when you are finished much appreciated. I have a very similar setup on the mounting system.

    That is a really nice crane. I've been needing one on a 12 foot dump truck flat bed. We have a couple PTO winches that I'd like to run the cable up the post and out the end of the crane to drag stuff up to the truck. We may just mount the winch on front bumper to do the dragging and build such as you have done to do the lifting only with the crane. But as already stated do update when competed

    Don't wanna sound impatient BUT sure would like to see an update. This is the best start I've seen on a truck crane that is not too expensive for a poor kid.

      Luckily for me it's not true. I finished the crane and some of my videos show it being used. The HF wenches didn't hold up, I swapped them out with Champion Winches I had found at Menards. Sadly I replaced the truck before doing a follow up video. I did remove and keep the crane to be used on the new (to me) truck. keep an eye out for that video, I will do a better job explaining the build.

    In the 90s I worked as a welder mechanic for a construction company auto cranes were popular back than I built my own crane for my service truck using heavy duty rectangular tubing I of course copied auto crane had power hydraulic for the boom 12v heavy duty power winch and electric motor swing the extension boom was manual I even made my own remote control box I
    Picked up broken ripper shanks from our D10 cat to bring back to the shop for welding and easily removed hydraulic cylinders etc etc was more than a helper or second hand for me I also used it to put on big heavy wear plates for our D10 cat dozers by myself 79 years old now retired and miss my job

    Thanks for sharing. I am looking for all ideas on building a boom for home use. :)
    Specifically for holding a motorized tamper to pound posts in the ground.

    800lbs capacity ? You're joking right ? The way thats built you could probably pick up another truck ( bigger winch and cables of course )

    only thing is you can't extend and retract to boom with power...

      +kmcwhq I did finish it and still use it today. In one of my videos you can see a 16ft fiberglass boat being lifted by it, it works great! I have plans on doing an updated video soon!.

    Holy shit. I just now recognized the time-stamp at 8 years ago, so im not expecting a reply, BUT we'll try anyway...
    On the final assembly, did you either reduce or increase the size(s) of any pulleys or rollers on the lifting side winch and cable setup to multiply the pulling power and whatnot?
    How was the final outcome?

    • @1D10CRACY
      @1D10CRACY  3 месяца назад

      If I remember correctly, all the pulleys I used were the same size. The craned worked magnificently well! I sold the truck and started to build a new crane for the new truck, but have not finished it yet.

    NO overkill on the rotation bearing.

    • @1D10CRACY
      @1D10CRACY  3 года назад

      I had forgotten I had done this video till you commented. This little crane ended up being an awesome crane! The only issues I had was with the wenches, they just didn't hold up. Within the first 6 months of use, I ended up swapping them all out for 3500# Champion brand winches and they held up! As for overkill on the rotation bearings, maybe not, but they were adequate for the light loads the crane was intended for. Probably the heaviest thing I ever picked was a Chrysler big block. I did pick up the front end of a 17 foot glass I/O runabout once to do a trailer swap. The next crane is in the works and currently sitting in the middle of my shop floor, its a bit bigger and hydraulically tucks down into the bumper of the truck.

    Ya man I love it , hope ya dont mind if i Copy some parts of your crane idea ,Im slowly putting together a trailer out of a 76 one ton dually ford for hauling wood and anything else heavy for my projects , it would only be for home use as im in the process of retiring, wanted a crane for a while but the cost of hydraulics made that impossible , this should work great . thanks
