Thank you so much, Ese! I deeply appreciate your comment. I have no intention of stopping these videos for a long time! At the present time, because of the pandemic, I am making videos at home until we can get back to the studio to continue working on dressmaker's studio lessons.
Hello Sally. What would make you decide to use one dart position over another when making a garment? The patterns are the same shape with every dart manipulation but would the garment designs differ according to the dart position selected?
Hi, Marion, Thank you for asking! When designing a garment, we consider the placement of darts and how that will affect the final product. One example: You have a large floral print and want to make a shirtwaist dress. Your pattern shows front bust darts originating from the waist in the front. This would disrupt the flowers. They would not be whole because the dart has interferred with the design of the print. So, you can move the darts to the side and use French darts. This eliminates the chopping look in the front. If you have fabric with vertical stripes. You might want to use the side bust dart that starts a few inches under the arm going to the bust. This dart allows the stripes to stay vertical. Also just the design of the garment may dictate the type dart to use. There are countless reasons to move a dart and this is only one example. I hope this is helpful. Happy Sewing!
Thank you for this very clear and simple explanation!
