As a partly seld-taught historical tailor, this was very helpful. "Patterns" in many time periods do not include seam allowance; and indeed I usually make manilla paper copies of my most-used patterns, without the seam allowance included. (Having a chalk line on the actual seam makes handsewing a good deal easier.)
At any rate, because of this kind of difference, it sometimes makes navigating the space between historical dress and "fashion" a little tricky to navigate. Moreover, it can be difficult at times to pinpoint what one is missing. This helped a great deal in clarifying how these terms are used in the industry, today. I thank you.

You really simplified this information. I love designing and making clothing for myself. I have invested a lot of my life into understanding fit and fashion. Using standard sewing patterns is so frustrating as you have to make a muslin and fit each pattern. I need a visual, so I am not able to come up with designs without seeing at least some form of the design first.
I just created and fit my own woven blouse pattern block. That has some ease and fits me well. This has been a work in progress for many years. I owe a huge amount of my success to you. Thank you so much. This information is invaluable no matter what your design and sewing goals are.

I am a self-taught sewer. I am now in my early 60's and trying to understand and learn pattern-drafting. I am now drawing a block of my own body and am unsure of the lines or curves to put in the bust-waist-hips? I want to know if the only curves of a block are the neck and armhole?

I am so glad you are wanting to make a pattern block for yourself. I have just released All my block patterns in sizes in pdf forms to have and print. You can see them here: eliascouture.com/store. They are all on sale right now for Cyber Monday. It is much easier to have a good block pattern and adjust it in areas then to start from scratch. Sloper means no seam allowance. Pattern blocks have seam allowance In Sloper did you add ease allowance? Or we have to add ease allowance in pattern Block?

    • @susaneliascouture

Every pattern block or Sloper has ease. The amount of ease differs from a Sloper with wearing ease than a pattern block has design ease. Want to learn more? Become a member of my channel and you get me live once a month to go into detail with your questions
