Knife Making - How to make a Modern Bushcraft Knife, full build.

- In this video, I will show you step by step How to make a Modern Bushcraft Knife,. I will make the knife from the
truck spring. This is the first time I will make a DIY Bushcraft knife .
And also this is my first experience in making a knife completely out of metal, including the handle of the knife. First of all, I will transfer the dimensions of the workpiece to paper and draw the outlines of the future knife on paper .
I will transfer it to the steel blank using spray paint. I don’t know the grade of steel .
Then, with a grinder, I will cut out the contour of the knife. To smooth out any irregularities, I use a belt sander.
I use a wet stone grinder to sharpen my knife.
Thanks for watching. -
New Tesla knife. For real now, great job! Compact sturdy knife that should survive hell
Thanks for watching.
Excelente trabalho! Ficou linda demais! Parabéns amigo, e abraços aqui do Brasil!
On the one hand, this guy just made a knife with a pair of channellocks and a framing hammer so what the hell is my excuse? On the other hand, he's got a 72 inch belt grinder.
Thanks for watching.
Could still do by hand but would start with a half inch thick metal bar angle grinder and a couple of hard days hand grinding
he also essentially sharpened a crowbar, like Jesus that's a chunky knife, this guy could probably turn an I-beam into a hatchet

One knife for the end of the world...
But no joke, that is a tool for generations, very nice work...
Thanks for watching.
Otro GRAN TRABAJO...!!! Excelente herramienta... Muchas gracias por compartir... Espero que estén todos bién...!!! SALUDOS...!!!
Gracias por mirar y apoyar.
Beautiful knife. Your skills are amazing!
Thanks for watching. 👍
This one's authentic; in the class all its own. I've never seen anything like it ever since I started watching these shows.👍👍👍
Thanks for watching.
@@WDRestoration You're welcome.👍
Awesome craft! I really love it when knifes made like this. Simple and useful!
That's one of the most beautiful knives i've ever seen. Stunning.
Thanks for watching.
Wow, that is a gorgeous knife, very well done, I love it
Thanks for watching.
Hueta
So using a leaf spring is a awesome idea 💡💯.🍻
I love it! The final look is almost mesmerizing! I want to throw it!😃
YEAH...Throw it in a river.
What an inspirational build! A beautiful knife.

Whatever you don’t cut or chop, you can club. Beautiful knife.

Wow.
don't know why but it reminds me of a porsche. the design is just simply good
Thanks for watching.
such a beautifully crafted object. I can sit and watch it all day long! wonderful work
This is absolutely beautiful. A fairly simplistic design with gorgeous lines. To start with an old piece of scrap metal and end up with something that is as functional as it is appealing to the eye is something many youtube knife makers fall short of. Also your video editing was outstanding. Great camera angles and excellent flow. I thank you for putting this together and sharing it. I look forward to seeing your next creation. Much respect 🙏 👏.
Merci de vous avoir regardé.
simple but robust
That is a beautiful sculpture. Wonderfully well done!
Thanks for watching
top
Love the knife, looks absolutely stunning! My only concern is that it's going to rust easily, just like the truck spring it came from. Beautiful show piece, not a good daily use knife.
thanks for watching.
I wonder what rust proof paint it 🧐
Is*
I love the lines on this...
Just wish it was a little bit thinner. But, chonky boi is good too.

Molto bello, ottimo design ed esecuzione impeccabile.
Bravo complimenti ❗👏👏🏻

Never seen this design before…super cool👍🙂
Most modern looking knife I have ever seen.

it is not a knife...
it is a work of art 😲 wow
un saluto dall'Italia ^__^

That looked like a ton of fun! 👍 and using the masking tape to make a profile guide was great!
Edit: 9:57 Were you able to reuse these sparks? Lol! Joking aside, nice job and you have a knife you can be proud of!

@@WDRestoration i added to the original post but no problem!
Beautiful result after a different idea than usual, congratulations !!
I'm impressed by your grinder, and love very much the space you have behind the plate and on the side of it, did you make this grinder, did you buy it (where), or eventually have you some plans ?? Thank you very much.
Thank you very much. I bought a grinder from us in Ukraine.
@@WDRestoration 🇺🇦 so much respect from me and many others here in the 🇺🇲
ok
Sorry sir, you didn't made a knife, you just made a pry bar with an EDGE! Good job👍👍👍
but it's cool af
Awesome build.
Is it just me though, or did that blade not look anywhere *near* hot enough for quenching?
100% agree.
Love this concept it's awesome and came out great I'd buy one
Thanks for watching.
Beautiful and possibly useful to have with Ukraine's current problem. Keep Safe.
Oh yeah. Thank you for viewing.
That knife is amazing! The workmanship is second to none! i've watched the video a few times n it never gets boring! I wonder, would you produce these to sell? I'm in to bush craft and anything outdoors n could do with a strong no nonsense knife like this! Keep up the good work
Thanks for watching.
@@WDRestoration No problem. As I say I'd watched a few times lol
Will you produce one for me? Willing to pay for it obviously
@@WDRestoration is it possible to own this knife
It's beautifully crafted for sure, but kinda impractical for actual use in bushcraft though. The blade is way too thick for fine cuts, I imagine it's crazy heavy, and being all metal, it's gonna suck the heat right out of your hands in slightly cold weather. Plus, I'm not sure about the ergonomics of the handle. For bushcraft you want something that you can squeeze as hard as you can, in multiple grips and use it for an extended period of time.
@@mrkiky exactly...its nice n looks...but i alrdy feel my hands crapping up & the inflimmation on top of that after long use as one of ur main tools...using a machate can wreck ur hands after long use...dont need a knife doin the same thing...
I love it, I always wanted such a massive knife. How much does it weigh when finished?
Thanks. It weighs 360 grams.

Very cool and futuristic knife.
Thanks for watching.
Pretty cool but I thinks it's a bit heavy for Bush Crafting. Lot of work removing that much steel.
Thanks for watching.
This is really cool and creative, but that would be WAY to heavy to use as a bushcraft knife that you would actually cary into the woods, and since that is made from a leaf spring, it is simply carbon steel and if the handel isn't coated or wraped with something it will rust in your hand after only a short while. That said, as a novelty knife, and as somthing different from the rest this is a definite success. Beautiful work. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching.

Awesome blade, really like the polished edge all the way around
Thanks for watching.
the cinemetography or whatever is beautiful

Hello. Truck springs are usually made of 1.5160 steel or similar which is OK for knife making. But you need to forge it (around 960 celcius) and then normalize it (around 870 celcius) in order to modify grain structure and improve toughness. You didn't do that. After these steps, you need to harden it (around 840 celcius) and temper it (around 190 celcius). Your tempering temperature is OK, but from what I see, I seriously doubt your furnace can reach 840 celcius. Also from the color of the knife during quenching, I can tell that the temperature is lower than 800C. Below 825 celcius, this type of steel will not get into austenite phase, there will be no martensitic transformation and therefore it will not harden. Also after tempering, you should not allow it to get near 200 celcius again, since this will further temper it and decrease the hardness. In other words, you better use wet grinding or at least manual grinding after the heat treatment step. You put so much time and effort towards building a knife, so it is rewarding to pay attention to get the best microstructure possible. The performance of the knife depends on it.
You look like an expert on this craft
@@rahulk2633 He sounds like one too.
Because he's a knife
Nice knife. I wouldn't use if for field work tho. Heavier than it needs to be, the entire thing will rust, and handles have no texture. As soon as your hand gets wet, its gonna slip all over the place resulting in a pretty dangerous tool.
Thanks for watching.
Back in the day, we'd make various projects out of scrap metal and hand tools, just to pass time whilst out on submarine patrol. Not often anything quite this ambitious, usually, though. Lots of worn out nuts turned into rings, bits of piping turned into lighters or pens, etc. I know a couple go-getters, though, that would have embraced this build with great enthusiasm.
Nice work!
I still have a pair of hull metal dice around here, somewhere. Perfectly symmetrical, hand-worked out of a bit of scrap left behind by a sandcrab (shipyard worker).
Reminds me of a fixed blade utility knife. I like it.
Thanks for watching
Wirklich Klasse! Meisterhafte Handwerkskunst.
Modern? I would even say futuristic. Simple and beautiful design indeed!
Bellissimo progetto e realizzazione impeccabile.
I particularly liked the Ukrainian colours masking tape.
