- In this video I'll show you how I restored my wife's grandfather's old axe. It was his favorite ax . I will also show you how to make an ax handle. I'll make the handle out of ash. Pleasant viewing.

The way you secured the head to the handle was something I’ve never seen before. What a great idea. Very inspiring!
Thank you so much.
I've never seen that securing method either, did you invent that? If you did, you need to patent it!
@@gemofthewoods5802 There's a video of an antique firefighters axe restoration by "My Mechanics" which has the same kind of securing method, definitely worth a watch, so it would seem it's an old method that WD has bought back into use. He has done a marvellous job too.
@@kougerat5388 thank you for that. I'm going to try and find it right now. 😀
Yeah, that is unique. It will make changing handles much easier I bet!
This is the most beautiful axe I've seen. Loved it.

When restoring items with family connections, I like to just return the tool to it's original working state.
It the tool was a favorite of those who have passed, I would never make such a radical change to it. It would just not sit well with me.
I could just do a a radical restore job from an old axe I get for a garage sale and such.
All that said, that is a beautiful modern design of an axe. Well done.
I think it’s awesome what he did. It’s still a sentimental piece.
@@dustincartie3502 Maybe percival views the wear and tear on the tool as witness marks of events in the user's life. That is my view. The complexion of the Axe has been wholly erased.
It's not just an axe, it's a piece of art....🪓
No. It just an axe
You have done your Grandad proud transforming his old axe into a thing of beauty.
Awesome restoration. It takes a special person to take the time and have the patience to create a piece of art like this. Thank you for sharing.......beautiful job

Dude did not save that old axe but literally made a piece of ART! DAMN!!! In your channel description you mentioned that you are not a professional restorer I would say that you are beyond a professional restorer, you have a unique gift, keep on doing stuff!
Great design: beautiful, sturdy, durable, useful!
The only way this fantastic display of craftsmanship could possibly be appreciated any better is if my Father was alive to see it. Thank you, this really takes me back to the sometimes not so fun but learning experiences that he instilled in me.

a perfect ax in every detail. your hand is a diamond hand
That is the most beautiful hatchet I've ever seen. Absolutely stunning and a work of art.
Come on man that’s not an axe! It is a beautiful work of art that should now be a treasured family heirloom for generations to come. Fantastic work sir!
One of my favorite axe restorations ever. Love the handle you made
You turned an old rusty axe into a work or art. Just beautiful.
Thanks for watching
Your grandfather would be so proud with your restoration
This is the coolest looking hand axe I've ever seen. Well done!
I think your grandfather would be proud of what you did! It's beautiful! Pass it along to your children.
So beautiful, more of a work of art than a tool. Your Grandfather would be proud! Congrats, great work.
Thanks for watching
I thought as well.

Such videos keep assuring me that two types of people still exist - 1. Honest people and 2. Those who work for their satisfaction. You are two in one and of some rare ones.
One of the most beautiful restorations I have ever seen done on RUclips!!! Amazing job!!
at my school no one can learn how to do this because the cis white male students hog all the tools and the cis white male teacher lets them
Not a restoration, he just simply made a wall hanger.
GDETO TAK .

That is SICK!! I wish I had my Grandpas tools to refurbish. He was an avid woodworker!
WOW! Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship. I love the inlays - adds SO much character. Very nicely done.

SICK pick of the week !!!!! Grand pa should be really proud of you and your awesome skills. GREAT WORK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful work. My father is a woodworker. Enjoyed the heck out of that restoration.
Thanks for watching
wow
That's a beautiful and very creative looking axe. The contrast between the wood and metal accents is great!
Thanks for watching
A masterpiece, congratulations !
Wundervoll !
That's some very beautiful work. Love how you secured the head, I've never seen that before!
Thanks for watching
nice
You have so much talent. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
A masterpiece made of a old axe, the handle is on it's own a masterpiece, well done !!!!
Stunning, Having the wedge in the back like that is awesome. I would really love to have that on my side as a little wedge banger because it deserves to be used. Outstanding job.
Thanks for watching
This is sick! I've seen a lot of axes, but the handle mounting system is brilliant!
That was the part I liked the least... I thought it would be an aluminium wedge mounted old scool. But it is in style with the metal hybrid, so I guess it has to be that system.
Great job taking something old an giving it a new look.
Watching your videos is addictive.
When you started, I'm like there's no way he can do anything with that. Then it turns to, Ok I see where he's going with this.
It ends up as my god, that wasn't even close to what I had in my head.
Outstanding craftsmanship. You are a true artist.
Thank you so much.
Beautiful job. I'm sure your Grandfather would be proud of his old axe and you.
I proud of your comments too😅

Most beautiful axe i have ever seen in my life.
That is incredible looking! Great job!
Meinen aller größten Respekt, eine wunderschöne Arbeit! Mein Großvater hätte gesagt: "Ein Mann mit goldenen Händen!".
Danke fürs Ansehen.
One of the many phenomenal restorations shown on RUclips where, it's so perfect, you'd never want to actually use it, for fear of getting scratches on it.
Thanks for watching
I was skeptical at first about the metal in the handle, but wow.....great work man.
Wow!!! Very impressive. You are truly a Craftsman !!! What a work of art!
Wow, what a treat it is to watch a real craftsman and artist combine those talents and watch the project unfold. Loved the inlays and how they compliment the entire project. I can assure you , your wife's grandfather is looking down and smiling.

Great job!! Love that axe! ❤
Wow. I really admire the patience and skill it must take to do these sorts of projects. What a beautiful restoration!
Thank you so much.
There's very few things more impressive than watching a true craftsman go to work.
You mean like ruining the temper and not knowing enough to reharden it?
@@cthulhu_lives8169How about making the head much lighter and weaker to use. No pins anywhere in the handle, just glued together.
What a nice peace of art you made out of an old peace. Respect for your work!!! 👍🙏

Yes it was a nice piece made out of an old piece....
Brother, that is one of the coolest restoration projects I have seen.....just....wow! So well done, and the craftsmanship is unmatched!

This is a f***n' masterpiece!! You made an incredible, amazing and beautiful job!! You're great and I'm so glad to have found your channel!
Beautifully dynamic functional artwork created right before our very eyes! Life is good!
If you ever make another, similar to this one, I think it would look great mounted on a handle of MESQUITE! In the us it’s mainly used for the aromatic smoke. Few know that it is a truly beautifully grained piece of wood. Just a simple carnauba wax, buffed to a high gloss. Stunning

Breathing new life into something that it’s original creator, long passed away, would be proud of. I have a deep reverence for the craftsman who created tools and the tools themselves, that have lasted beyond a lifetime. There’s something special about holding something that’s survived not only time but the abuse that it’s taken during it’s lifetime. I think about who may have used the tool and for what purpose. Thanks for giving this tool time for the next generation to hopefully use and appreciate.🙏👍🇺🇸 Your skills are off the chart BTW.
Thanks for watching. 👍👍👍
Yeah except it's not a tool anymore. If you tried to use it, it would fall apart. Not to mention now it's too light to do it's job.
For whatever reason this was so relaxing to watch, this man has incredible talent!
Good lord, that's a gorgeous result! I can't help wondering if the metal center of the handle might send more vibration through the hand than pure wood if actually using it regularly, but that looks more like a museum piece that you'd be keeping on the wall than actually splitting wood, so probably not an issue. I absolutely love it, though. Marvelous!
This is the most beautiful axe I’ve ever seen! Amazing freaking work, I can stare at this all day 🤤
I totally agree with you my friend
I had to blow through most of the video due to lack of time. I have seen some nice restorations, but that is one of the best, if not the best I have seen. Everything from the cut of the axe head to the sculp of the handle is simply masterful. Wish I could restore one of my dad's tools. Your grandpa would be proud. That is a 'cutting edge' axe for the ages.
Thank you so much 👍👍👍
My Lord that’s a beautiful piece of work. Well done!
This is not a restauration, this is a master piece.
Wow - you used several techniques that I have never seen before anywhere else (combo wood/metal handle - partial depth inlays, and a very ingenious way to keep the ax head on).
Beautiful results on the ax head and the handle. Thank you for making that video.
you never see this technique before because it's terribly impractical. It's fine if you never intend on actually using the thing but as soon as you do, you'd get terrible response from the handle and as the wooden part wear out, the metal part will start cutting into your hands when you use the axe. This is now nothing more than a show piece.
i clicked the video because that thumbnail showed the only axe ive ever seen in my 40 years that can actually be called beautiful
i cant dare to use it on woodwork anymore !!! its an amazing piece of art for decoration
