I think if you don't want to take off branches etc in the last one- just cut your plate in half down the middle after drilling the hole, then attach it back together after putting the two pieces around the base of the tree? you could weld it, tie it via a couple of holes, etc etc ?

The washers are too small imo. You might get better results using some CDs since their surface area is wider, the roots will grow more lateral.

I thought it was best practise not to cut more than 60% of the tap root off ? And also if the Nabari gets big and chunky ,will the branch structure ever catch up so that the tree will look in Proportion,do you know what I mean ?

like the washer/metal idea for nebari,,,if tree is a problem inserting in the metal,,,drill center hole ,,,cut 1/2 way thru metal...then rivet the metal together... saves on upper tree scaring...another is useing root grafting where needed ..
