This is my first time hunting with a muzzleloader, it would defiantly be a challenge. Snow drifts were deep and temps were cold. This is a Traditional muzzleloader only hunt, the season last about a week in the middle of December. Access is defiantly an issue, many of the roads are completely drifted in in many areas.

One thing that I've never seen was healthy trees that froze too fast and were busting off and hitting the ground, and I don't mean one or two I mean hundreds of trees were hitting the ground and we had some near misses. Ah yes a family tradition from my childhood. I hated doing this so much when I was a kid but now I look back on those days very fondly and miss those days more than most on somedays. The smell of the wood being cut, being piled, being stored, and the woods in the fall. Our father would let my friend and I have a huge bonfire every late fall, made out of all the unwanted scraps and brush pieces. Some years that brush piles would be taller than three to four of my grand dads standing on top of each other and once that fire was set. Holy crap the flames got high, especially when some old tires were thrown in. With that said, I agree with you 100% about wood heat. It just feels different and better than other forms of winter heating. Thanks for jogging my memory bud. I hope you and your family are doing well. Cheers!!!🍻

    Two things: 1) Super "Thank You" for not ruining a hunting video with a bunch of asinine music! Also however, the Jeremiah Johnson music was sort of "corny" at the end & totally unnecessary. 2) Why the aversion to using camo? Don't you all know elk see movement & camo greatly helps break up your outlines? You're archery hunting & not wearing camo or wearing solid color shirts GREATLY reduces chances through making it a lot easier for animals to see you, & especially wearing blue, a color elk can see & distinguish from other colors. headnets or face paint also helps! Thanks for posting the video!

    • @406highlanders
      @406highlanders Месяц назад

      @@1UofACat12 Thanks for your feedback, I also don’t like music during the video but I do like a cool song at the beginning or end. There’s probably a lot of things I do that is “corny” but it’s my video and how I want to tell my story. If we were all alike with the same personality it wouldn’t be much fun. Regarding your second part of your statement I strongly disagree with your opinion on camo, you think the native Americans had camo? I’ve been bow hunting for 30 plus years and have killed a lot of bulls, and have been super close to a lot of bulls, with and without camo. In my opinion it doesn’t affect the outcome. Movement and the wind changing is what gets you busted. Honestly like to hear other people’s thoughts, and I know I can’t make everyone happy nor do I try. Thanks again
