  • Opening week of Montana general season got cold, snowy and western!! When we packed in it was warm and sunny, then it turned winter. One thing that I've never seen was healthy trees that froze too fast and were busting off and hitting the ground, and I don't mean one or two I mean hundreds of trees were hitting the ground and we had some near misses. Kane connected on a good bull on this hunt and I was fortunate to catch most of it on film. It was very challenging to capture footage, we had frozen batteries, cameras, rifles and fingers.

    What an incredible hunt! You captured it so beautifully! I loved every second of the video. The shots on a beautiful bull, to the rugged and challenging terrain, to the in camp rodeo, to the amazing pack string going out. Absolutely brilliant. Congratulations to everyone involved. Great job!

    Awesome hunt. Take your pack off next time as a rest super easy and fast. Quickest way to warm up is get your knife out. Right on good job.

      Thanks for the comment, yes a rest is always the best at about any range. I still see a giant bull that got away from me because I got in a hurry and decided not to get a rest. That bull still haunts my dreams and its been twenty plus years ago.

    Congratulations to your son on a nice bull. Thanks for taking the time to video it, I know it’s hard to do, especially when your hands are cold. Looks like that Grey continues to cause a few issues. I’ve got a young colt like that. Got about a dozen rides on him now and he keeps getting humpy. Worse part is last weekend he lost his feet while bucking and came down in my leg. I’ll be in a cast for a few months. At least I have time to heal before fall. Anyway these are great experiences and memories for you and your family. Thanks for sharing them.

      Ouch, sorry to hear that. Get well quick. Eat lots of boiled elk and beef bone broth and soft tissue. Hopefully get back on the trail soon.

      Dang, that's a bummer to be layed up for the summer. Yeah that grey has his moments, after he has his fit he's good to go. That horse has a pretty storied past with my family, he put my cousin in the hospital for awhile with a busted pelvis.

    That’s amazing, the same exact day you guys got that first snow storm, we got our first snow dump in southwest Alberta. Checked the date in the picture in my phone and it said Oct 22. Awesome video, thanks.

      Thanks, appreciate your comment. Yeah that was a shock to the system, when its been so warm then drops below zero coupled with wind it gets to a guy.

      Yeah and when your not climatized to it, it's a shock to the system. 30 degrees in the fall is a lot colder than 30 degrees in the spring

      Thanks, yeah that gray is always entertaining. I would have liked to stayed longer but our horse feed was gone, sure we could have killed some more good bulls if we had more time but those are the challenges a guy faces. Another season will be here soon, good luck to you this season.

    Got cold watching you guys shivering. Why don't you dress warmer?

    • @406highlanders
      @406highlanders  Год назад

      That's a great question I even asked myself. The previous day it was 75 and sunny, that morning it was actually raining and warmer but it didn't take long for things to cool down fast. Especially as we gained elevation. That being said we put on some miles and stay warm but that day was a drastic change and we got cold but after a fire and packing elk we warmed back up. You can bet we had more layers the next few days on. thanks for watching and commenting
