    Great looking bear. I too work a schedule to where I do a lot of solo hunting. Also I’m a pastor so it’s great to hear another talking about our Lord and Savior.

    Great video, great country. Glad you’re here enjoying our public lands but 800 yards is quite a poke if you don’t practice a lot. Wind and a bunch of other factors come into play with shooting super long shots. Our animals deserve respect. At least you admitted you took a crack that it was too far but if that’s the thought process then the bullet should never leave the barrel. I practice out to 1200 yards and I still don’t like shooting further then 600 yards if I can help it. Too many variables that can go wrong. Glad you had a great trip and sorry you didn’t connect on a bear.

      The thought process was that the bullet should have never left the barrel, I thought I made that point pretty clear. Sometimes we make decisions that we later decide were not the right choice. The better choice is always obvious the next day after the heat of the moment has passed on. Most don't put their mistakes on display for criticism and a part of me didn't want to make this video because of those bad decisions. Hunting is a long journey of learning from the choices we make in the field. I strive for transparency and this channel will cover the good the bad and the ugly. Thanks for the honest comments.

      @@HuntSoloPublic I agree 100% and I appreciate you putting the good, the bad and the ugly on the site! Too many people blur out the shot or don’t show it and then they say they smoke them and you can see a bullet hole in their hind quarters. I subscribed because of your honesty and being forward with that you shouldn’t have shot. I am an avid hunter and live for hunting season. As a resident Montanan it does frustrate me though that we have guys coming here and shooting way past ability. Some guys can shoot a long ways especially with todays calibers and technology but I was taught at a very young age the first thing we do is respect the animals. They are giving their life to us and the deserve a quick clean kill. Does it always work out like that? No, anyone that says they have never made a bad shot or missed or anything like that is a liar or they haven’t shot at/harvested enough animals. Good luck with your future hunts. I look forward to watching. I am also a public land warrior as well so it’s fun to see your experience!

      Understandable, I’d be willing to say 100% of hunters have made a similar mistake or poor choice. So resident or non resident were all hunters and human beings that are far from perfect. Some are farther along than others in the process and we learn the most through mistakes. I’m glad you found some value. I do value the animals very much but I also want to kill them and fill the freezer. The line gets messy sometimes. If someone can learn something through my mistakes and lessons then this channels mission has been accomplished. Public land is tough but rewarding when it comes together!

    We have a lot in common. I too work shift work and a wonky schedule, were about the same age, and I am just dabbling with a hunting channel. Keep up the good work.

      Thanks! yea I shouldn't have tried the long shot though. If I had acted quickly first thing I think I would have been able to cross the river over to the other side and get a closer shot. I learned a lot and am ready to give it another shot next spring.

      800 yards just too far. Looks like your hunting up in my neck of the woods. Hungry horse reservoir is a great place. If you’re ever back this way hit me up. Show you a few spots.

      @@intothetimberoutdoors8746 I agree, I got caught up in the moment and made a poor choice. The rifle is plenty capable but those shots need to be practiced. You live and you learn. It's a beautiful area!

    Hey man I really liked the video. I went out to Montana this spring by myself also. I had a lot of the same difficulties you did glassing and terrain-wise. If you wanna pick each others brains a little bit I’d love to have a chat.

    • @HuntSoloPublic
      @HuntSoloPublic  Год назад

      Yea the thicker areas are tough. I think getting back into the mountains a little deeper where the terrain opens up for better glassing might be the move. Backpacking in vs. sleeping at the truck or a camp.

    Props for putting up misses. My opinion if your not burning out barrels faster than truck tires dont shoot over 500.

      Good opinion, practice is necessary for longer pokes. Thanks for sharing. I think posting failures is a great way to learn for everyone. Thanks for watching.

    How do you determine a bear of that color is actually a black bear, esp from that distance?

    • @HuntSoloPublic
      @HuntSoloPublic  6 месяцев назад

      Study body shape and certain features. A grizzly has a very prominent shoulder hump.
