This channel explores how we can grow food in ways that support the Earth. It features videos from Buddha Garden Community Farm in Auroville and Chempaka Kuning in Malaysia. Two places with different climates, different sorts of food growing and experiencing different food growing challenges. But each finding ways to grow food that supports rather than depletes the natural world on which we all depend for our life and sustenance.
In Chempaka Kuning July 22nd - July 27th 2024
Another busy week when we continued to work in the vegetable garden together with terraces two and three. We cleared away most of a tree that had fallen onto terrace three and were able to use the material for mulching three new kedondong trees that we planted and as a mulch over the dried up soil in the area. We also planted some vegetables on the two unplanted beds on terrace two. We continued to bring in and chip up a lot of material from our neighbour’s rubber plantation and as a result the compost heaps have now grown and we have a lot of mulch available. Its been a very busy week with jobs that included planting mango ginger in the Vegetable garden as well as watering in the liquid fertiliser we made last week and tying up chilli plants knocked down in the rain. After seven months away I am back in Chempaka Kuning farm in Malaysia. The week began with more gentle rain and grey skies which were perfect for doing a lot of planting and weeding jobs. Its been another hot week when we have concentrated on using the leaves to create our first compost bin full of compost. We’ve continued working on the new nursery, but on the inside rather than the outside. We’ve moved things around so the microgreens take up less space and rearranged the seedlings and adjusted the shade net so they get more light. When is the next event??
Which particular event? If you would like to join in with the work we work 6.15 - 9.00am Monday to Friday and 7.00am - 9.00am on Saturday. Just turn up when work starts any day you would like to join in.
Lovely video. Nursery tip: I think if u put spare mesh around the new nursery, it should discourage squirrels and mouse from digging.
