I may reconsider getting a Visconti. It really looks like a nice writer.
Hi, Garry. Nice video. 👍 Could you point me in the direction of a stockist of that Serendipity dip pen, please? Cheers.👍
You and I have similar tastes in ink. I’m saving this video to write a shopping list.
I couldn't find this pen with this resin. So, I got Harbour Lights which is ok, but looking at your pen, the less attractive mine becomes. 😊
Great video. Diamine Tranquility, very nice ink.
494 has the same nib and feed as pilot low end pens.
I have the Jinhao 82 and a TWSBI Eco which are good writers as you mentioned,. My “black” dark green ink is KWZ Foggy Green, one of my favorite “black”, lol. Thanks for the video.
I am glad that the Prera can be eyedropper filled. The converter is so small. I haven't used mine, yet, so that is how I will use it. The Eco is such a nice pen. The flow is excellent with the nib and feed. I have the Opus 88 Demonstrator which is a great pen. The ink just flows out of the nib. I think I have to reconsider getting the 580. It seems so nice.
Interesting Garry. Even the paper is transparent 😊
Lol
love my stub nibs, and the TWSBI stub is nice, very smooth!
It was good to see you in front of the camera and looking well.
Thanks. Just need to fix my voice now.
I have inked the black hollow version. It is a wonderful pen. The converter doesn't rattle, thankfully. My only quibble is the converter, itself. It just took small. Maybe I have gotten used to the converter in the 9019 and 9016
I tend yo fill the convertor with a blunt-nosed syringe so I can get a better ink volume.
My go to Japanese extra fine is a Pilot Custom Heritage 912. But at a couple hundred Aussie dollars it's not exactly cheap. Great everyday pen though - at least it is for me! YMMV Take care.
👍. Is that similar to the Custom Heritage 92?
@@GarryEves Next size up, a number 10 nib, 92 has a number 5 nib.
I have the Inkvent Tranquility. And while it is beautiful with the shimmer, the color of the Robert Oster Tranquility seems more fitting to the name. The name evokes my thoughts of coolness, water, ocean breeze, etc. Thanks for sharing!
👍
I have found a blunt nose syringe that fits the Eco. It will make flushing the barrel much easier. Don't get me wrong, I may still get a 580. Easier to maintain. I only wish it had a larger nib.
The 580 also has the small hole for access to the barrel. I discobvered it yesterday when cleaning out some pens.
@@GarryEves but you can remove the section?
@@paulmchugh1430 Cool.
I'm a big fan of the Dadao series, so thanks for the review.
👍
I like this model as with the 9016 and the 9019. I find it is best for me when posted. It is light enough not to be upset if it is a bit back weighted. My biggest complaint is the converter. I think Jinhao missed the chance to provide a slightly shorter version of the converter in the other models. That would have been exceptional. So, I plugged the end of the barrel and made it an eyedropper. It works very well. The Heartbeat nib does pose a problem if you need to floss it. So far I have been happy with the flow as is. Great review, Garry.
Thanks. I've got a video comparing the three coming up in a couple of weeks.
I prefer clear demonstrator pens to better show off the ink. Will probably pass on this version due to small size. Because of your video I now know, thanks.
I jknow what you mean about the clear demonstrators. My video tomorrow is going to be looking at 5 of them from my collection.
I hesitate to say this for fear of jinxing myself, but I have been very happy with the Jinhao Heartbeat nibs I have on several 9019s, 9016s, and 9013s. All have been lovely writers. Although I rarely do reverse writing, I usually check out of curiosity. Reverse writing with pretty much all of the Heartbeat nibs I have is as wet and smooth as regular writing and consistently better than regular writing with many nibs. Lest anyone misunderstand, I have a few very high-end pens, including a Montblanc 146, and and a number of pens in the US$50-200 range, so I know quite what good nibs feel like. I would put the JInhao Heartbeat nibs I have up against many of those pens, all of which are great writers.
Thats awesome to hear. I've recorded a video looking at all three together, which should come out in a few weeks. I'm going to try and use them more for the next few months so I can do a lober term Focus video

Awe Garry, praying you heal quickly!
Thanks.
I am with on this. The MZG is a fabulous pen, with or without an ink window.
The nib is glorious to use. This was my forst "expensive" pen.
It is my only Benu, but what a glorious pen!
I have this inked up about 50% of the time. Once it's empty I'm going to put it away until December.
Very good comparison, Garry. It is interesting to see how each defines the word tranquility. When I think of the word I would think of something peaceful. In that case I would opt for Robert Oster. However, the Diamine is a beautiful ink. Both are great colors.
It's the only 2 inks I have that share a name. The Diamine one makes me think of lavender and sleep.
Very complimentary colors. Good choices for comparison. Thanks for the video.
👍
Hey gar. Check out some of my pen reviews. Enjoy your channel.
I had one of the original releases - Starry Night. Beautiful resin. This one is also very nice. Sold it to someone made a great offer for it. Wish I hadn't
I just wish this has come with a gold nib rather than steel.
@@GarryEves when I bought mine, there was no steel nib option. It was also at a time when Visconti was experimenting with nibs. Some great, some not so much.
Really beautiful resin. Nice size postable, I believe (I don't as the pen is plenty long enough without being posted
Yhis is so nice to use unposted. It will post but does feel quite loose.
The price is more like AUD$50..
When I recorded this video, published in August 2022, the pen was $31. Now they are selling for $45. This is one of the downsides, the pricing changes but there is no way to update the RUclips video. What I do is try and quote current prices on every video that contains the pen so make sure I'm giving the latest price available.
@@GarryEves The price rise is crazy.
@@lancelink88 A lot of it is down to the Aussies dollar exchange rate dropping, which has made everything coming from outside of Aus a lot more expensive. It's one of the driving factors for me to buy Aussie made pens.
Hi Gary, I think I saw you writing left handed in one of your older videos. Are you ambidextrous, or am I mistaken? There aren’t too many left handed fountain pen reviewers unfortunately.
I am right-handed. I have tried a couple of times to do some left-handed writing but it looks so messy and I don't think I'm truly showing the way a pen would be positioned.
I just noticed the rain is not a solid colour. There is some variety in it.
It's a bit like a cracked ice type pattern.
Nice first impression Gary. I have the same colored 9016, but with a fine nib. One slight correction, the converter in the 9016 is slightly smaller than the one that comes with the 9019, but definitely bigger than the standard Jinhao converter. You'll see it when you get the 9013. I don't mind the size of the 9019, but the 9016 is a nice size that splits the difference between a 9019 sized pen and many of the smaller pens that are available. Looking forward to the 9013 video.
👍 Thanks. That will each me to make assumptions based on quick looks. I logve it whern I get corrected info that lets me grow my knowledge.
I do enjoy this pen. I have medium sized hands and the 9016 fots slightly better than the 9019. That it has the enlarged converter is a plus in my book. Most cinveters di not hild mych ink. I think this converter hold about 1.5 ml which is eaual to some of my oiston filler pens. Actually i like it more than some of my piston fillers as it is very easy to clean. The Heartbeat nib works surprisingly well. No adjustments were necessary. No flow issues and the nin was tuned very well. I am looking forward to you first impressins of the 9013. I do have all 3 models. Geeat first impressions , Garry.
The 9013 is ccoming up on Sunday. These are surprisingly nice pens for the cost.
@@GarryEves Within the 9013 is the standard converter. I thought perhaps there would be perhaps a shorter version of the enlarged converter that the 9019 and 9016 contain.
Great work. I love my 9016 and my 9019
👍
Does Heartbeat nib affect flow? The comparison of the three pens will be very helpful. Thanks!
I haven't noticed any difference. My biggest concern is around if I need to floss the nib.
There has been no flow issues. I thought it would with the crooked slit but no problem with flow.
I really like the color of this demonstrator. I wish jinhao would make it for the 9019. I also like the " autumn " yellow variant for the 9013. Wish it too was available for the 9019. Also for good measure jinhao should also make a smoke black demonstrator for the 9019. Size of the 149, large capacity converter as well as a #8 sized nib. Absolutely perfect and a steal for the price especially if you get one that has been tuned well.
@@eddiecandelaria8691 I like the idea of the smoke black version. That would look so nice.
I really like the Eco, but that he section does not separate is a bit of a disappointment. I have a blunt nose syringe but it does not go onto that small hole. Too fat.
Mine came from temu and just fit through. I do try and use well behaved ink in it.
@@GarryEves it made me wonder if I picked the wrong pen, that I should have gotten the 580. I will look for another syringe.
An interesting thought to ponder... Does feathering have to he a "bad thing?"
I don't think it is. But it depends what I'm using for. For personal things I don't really care, but for more "formal" things I do like a nice crisp line.
I would have dinged the Leonardo on price and the Wingsung becomes the winner. I do have Leonardo MZG and love it, but I got a great price at less than $200 from a European retailer. The Wingsung looks a lot like my Jinhao X159 which I prefer due to a cartridge converter filling system. Thanks for the video.
👍
I love your videos and posts! As a newbie to the fountain pen lifestyle, I have fallen in love with the flat head Wing Sung 630 (I have 3 now). I also have a Darailpenz custom with a Jowo medium nib and a Jinhao 82 I've inked with Ferris Wheel Press Billowing Blush. My next purchase will probably be a Sailor Professional Gear or the Wing Sung 632 with the 18K nib.
I need to get a flat topped 630 still. It will be interesting to compare the two models.
@@GarryEves They write so smoothly! I do want to try the gold nib, though.
I think this will be the winner this month. I love the MZG.
I love using this pen. I do like the Grande size a bit more than the standard one.
@@GarryEves I am looking my M800 very much. I don't know if I would get a Momento Zero.
Nice showdown video Gary. I have a Wing Sung 630 with a fine #8 size nib that is just fantastic. As for Leonardo, I do not own one so I can't comment on them. I think they've made some beautiful pens, but I just have no desire to acquire one for my collection. Now, if you were to compare the 630 to say a Pineider Avatar Twin Tank Touchdown I'd be all over that!!
I've got a Pineider pen on my list for future purchases.
Those showdowns are great! I have a 630 and side with it! Go Wing Sung!
👍
Hi Gary. New subscriber here. Great video. 👍
Thanks
Nice job comparing these two pens Gary.
👍
You mentioned that the 630 has a Jinhao #8 nib. A bit of a flub. I think the Eco is about the same width of the Carene. I think it is a bit surprising that the 630 and the MZG have approximately the same barrel girth. I thought the 630 was wider. For my hand the MZG feels more comfortable. I do not have the same section as you as they changed it with the MZG 2.0. I did an ink capacity test with the 630. It holds 2.0 ml. The MZG is 1.5 ml. As they are about identical weight, it seems the resin on the MZG is either thicker or slightly heavier. It may be the ink but the 630 has a wider line than the MZG. I think the 630 has a wetter nib and feed combination. This is not to say the MZG is a dry writer. I love both pens. They will remain in my collection permanently. The 630 is such a good performer that I have no real interest in acquiring a MB 149. If I was to get another MZG, it would be for an ink window. I do agree with your assessment; the MZG is a better pen. If nothing else, their resins are outstanding. Great comparison, Garry.
Thanks. I'll fire the script writer for getting the nib manufacturer wrong.
Thanks, Garry. I always enjoy your videos. These are both lovely pens. And the inks! Also beautiful and well-matched.
👍
You might try a bit of double-sided tape under the pen rest to keep it in place during recording sessions
Cool. Thanks for the tip.
I wet a tiny bit of tissue and attach it to the underside of the pen. That's all it takes. Super easy. @GarryEves
Hey Garry I hope your surgery went well <3 take care talk soon :)
Thanks. All went well and I'm back home now. My biggest issue is my throat is really painful from the air tube so I'm struggling to talk at the moment, which has really pleased my son. I'm wandering around carrying a cheap notepad and my PensByCasey pen with a 1.1 nib so I can write notes to them.
@@GarryEves I"m glad all went well you hang in there youll ba back at it in notime ;)
I am glad I found a 100 that works for me. It is the black hollow version, the metal overlay. Nice size and weight. It comes with a black nib that is in very smooth. This version is also very nice.
I do ike my 100s. I think I've fot 5 now.
Thanks Gary - Thorough and well done. 👍 FWIW the nibs are made by Yowo. I had a spare Diplomat size 6 nib and the metal part was a perfect fir for the Vac 700R No. 6 nib. A very nice upgrade to a great pen.
👍
