Thanks for the comparison, Garry. I do not have either model. I didn't realize how small these pens were. When you mentioned that the Prera uses a CON-40 converter, then I realized how small the pen is. This converter doesn't hold much ink. I would be so tempted to eyedropper fill it but I am sure it is not made for doing so.
I wonder why the cap liner was not made with a transparent material. It would have been more aesthetically pleasing.
I think both pens are overpriced. Yes, I know the Sailor has a gold nib, but Pilot and Platinum have similar sized nibs in pens that cost less.
Also the Prera seems a bit high in price.

I think the biggest issue with the cost of the Prera is the “Australia Tax” which does add a lot of extra to the cost.
I haven’t tried eyedropper in, but when next empty I’m planning on filling it with water and then leaving to see what happens.

@@GarryEves I just ordered the Prera. It is the transparent model with a Fine nib. I was going to get a Medium nib but this was the only size nib available. Perhaps the model is going to be discontinued.
In any case the price was USD 25. Indeed your "tax" is very high. Customs duty or import tax is incredible.

I ordered a soft blue 💙 Prera. Those were only available from Japan; and through Ebay; for inflated prices but I lucked out and found one on Amazon. I bought it so fast, but it hasn't shipped yet. I hope it wasn't a mistake. I've never seen the soft blue pen on Amazon before. Well, we shall see...

I have all four sizes of Sailor pens, and all 4 grades of Sailor Nibs. The bodies literally make no difference to me. The steel nib is fine. The 14k nib is exceptional. The 21k nib in the Pro Gear is only slightly better than the 14 in the Slim. But the larger 21k nib in the King of Pen is breathtaking. Unfortunately the retail price on all the gold nibs is unreasonable, more and more unreasonable as you go up the ladder. That said, I would gladly trade my 17 other Sailors for 2 more KoPs.

don’t have the pro gear slim, I went for the slightly larger pro gear which is definitely one of my favourite fp’s: love the feedback, Sailor just nails it!; also a big fan of the Pilot prera but swapped out it’s nib for an EF which I took from my Pilot DPP70 - btw you’re correct that Pilot uses interchangeable nibs on the retro/metropolitan/88g, prera, 78g+, FP-60R, kaküno and pluminix which allows you to choose from EF, F, M and cursive fine and medium nibs which write like stubs; thanks for this:)

I have Sapporo Mini and Sailor 1911 Standard with 14K gold medium nib, 1911 Standard with zoom nib. I also have Pilot Custom 823 and Custom 74. Barrel material of Sailor is far better than Pilot.

Thanks for sharing this show down! I don’t have the pilot but I recently bought a pro gear slim in EF and I love the feedback! I really like that Robert Oster ink too.

Commentaries are in the cheap side but the Prera is in the “available” side, as you say. With all due respect Mr Cheap paper or pen or commentaries …
