June Ink Comparison - Pelikan Edelstein Garnet vs DeAtrementis Cherry

The latest Fountain Pen video is now available for your viewing pleasure.
In this video I am looking at Pelikan Edelstein Garnet and DeAtrementis Cherry fountain pen inks.
We look at the bottles, swatches, and chromatography, before doing a writing sample.
At the end I briefly discuss my thoughts on each in and pick my favourite of the two.

The DeAtramentis Cherry looks awesome! We seldom see a better labelled ink, it is exactly the color of cherries when they are at their peak!

That was a nice comparison Gary. I like both brands, but I do not have any of their red family of inks. The one ink that reminds me of the De Atrementis Cherry is Private Reserve Black Cherry, but it's a little darker I think. The one other red ink I like is Noodler's Widow Maker. I have both of those, but they are not getting much use as of late.

I just bought Diamine Crimson. It is an 80ml bottle the cost for me was USD 18 which is 22.5¢ per ml. I like it a lot but that Edelstein Garnet is really nice. It is brighter than the Crimson. I know it is more money but it may have been the red I would have chosen for myself.

My biggest issue with the Pelikan inks is that the name often doesn't match the colour that I imagine from the name.

I do not have the Cherry one BUT I've got the DeAtramentis Vanilla and the smell is just pure bliss. I would drink it if it was safe 😅. Love the scented inks, but it is a shame the smell does not linger for longer. Also I found they feather a lot more on cheaper papers than the regular inks.

My January birthstone, garnet was always a deeper red than my mother’s July ruby. To me, these colors/names should be reversed.

I do find the colour names on the Pelikan inks a bit weird, I always imagine the colour different than what I see on the paper.
