For those who are still not certain, yes the Gant will operate just fine with the RideDash display removed. Once you know what you are doing, the whole job can take less than 30miutes.

    Good content but I have to disagree with the noise. The x20 is definitely louder than the x35+ and x30. It might be lighter and it comes with some nice features but we haven’t sold some e-bikes cause of the noise.

    • @FiveMinuteVelo
      @FiveMinuteVelo День назад

      Thankyou for your input. You are not the only person to tell me the X20 is much noisier than the X35+ system. I can only go by my test experience and I did not notice any significant difference in the noise level. The noise may be bike dependent as it is possible that the sound could resonate in certain frames or others 'damp' it out. Another explanation could be my ageing hearing, my high pitch sound sensitivity is not what it was. However, I have to stick with my own experience, but accept that many other people may not be wrong! 🎂🍰

      Thanks for taking the time to comment. I haven't tried the four piston version, but I've heard good things. I think you're right about the bleeding of the system. The bleed port is not very convenient. I do have a special adaptor to screws in the port which does make bleeding the brakes easier. I have developed the technique now, so I find it not too much of a problem. 🎂🍰

    I was fortunate to purchase one on a cycle to work scheme which saved c 1/3. I recently spent a day touring Arran & it performed great, it also works well as a commuting bike. But my gosh it is heavy & my bike lock is too big to fit to the frame. Happy with purchase but maybe a Vado SL would have been a better choice.

      @@barnster5844 > thanks very much for the feedback. I did try out an SL before going with the full fat version. For what I wanted, the battery in the SL is too small; from my test I estimated that I would struggle to get 50 Mi out of the battery. Also, I found that the motor didn't have enough poke for what I wanted, which is touring. Ultimately, I decided to get more than one e-bike so I was happy to compromise and the weight and the ungainliness (if that's a proper word). 🍰🎂

    hello would you mind sharing what filament and print settings (extrusion width/height) you used for this print? I'm considering doing something similar (also simpler) with converting tcr custom spacers to normal spacers so i can put any stem i want. I'm slightly concerned about the flex characteristics and rigidity of the end product.

    • @FiveMinuteVelo
      @FiveMinuteVelo 3 дня назад

      @@trends-friend > okay, I'll do my best because I didn't make notes about the settings so I'll be going from memory. Each of the spaces was in two halves rear and front. For each of these halves I used a different material. For the rear spacer I used PETG+ because he's less prone to environmental degradation than The standard PLA. For the front half I used TPU because it's flexible. I was happy to use 3D printed parts for a couple of reasons. First of all, the Cross-Sectional area could be quite large, much larger than traditional round spaces and therefore the stressing of them would be low. Secondly, the spacers are under compression and the 3D printed materials are much better under compression, no chance of interlayer delamination. Now, as for the print settings, this is where things get a bit more hazy. For the rear parts of the spacers the perimeter (I think) was about 2mm thick and the top and bottom of the prints about 1 mm thick. I used a 30% hexagonal infill. The front parts of the spacers, printed in TPU, were solid. For the initial trial prints I used The fast print settings which gave thick layers (0.4mm?). For the final prints, I used finer settings. As far as temperatures were concerned, I used guidance that came with the print media. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

      There are a lot of factors that influence range, these include: The total weight of the bike and rider... Speed that you travel up the climb. The length and steepness of the climb. How much effort, you as the rider put in?. To some extent temperature and other climatic conditions Size of your ebike battery. In this earlier video I made: ruclips.net/video/4cNLBN5QN2M/видео.htmlsi=3FiAQ4VXkLGlwxAY I used about 160Wh of my battery to raise me up about 400m. Sa Colobra is about 800m vertical ascent. Hence if you have more than 400Wh you should easily have enough juice, even if you and your bike are heavy. There is a charger at the bottom of the descent, but to be warned, it can take a long time (many hours) to charge the battery. 🍰🧁

Shimano refused a warrantee claim on the grounds it is a consumable item, but the UK distributor and bike seller (J E James who were great) agreed to replace it (for free) any way. I have been using the ZTTO BB shown in this video which I have found reliable and long lasting. Orange Seal instead of Stan’s will vastly improve your experience. Use proper techniques when taping up your rims…aka choose a tape that is 5mm wider than the internal width of your rim, double wrap it with very high tension and let the tape run up the sides. Run a tire lever over the tape at the edge of the rim to ensure proper adhesion/sealing. Heat up an awl or screwdriver to poke a hole in the tape at the valve. Use only tubeless valves with conical bungs.

    • @FiveMinuteVelo
      @FiveMinuteVelo 23 дня назад

      Thanks for the advice. I started using Continental sealant, which did not work. I was recommended Stans Race which was the best thing since sliced bread (apparently), as you can see from the video that was crap. Your advice about taping is sound and I had tried all that using three different types of rim tape, I'm sure that was not the source of my problems. I've now given up on the tubeless experiment and now use TPU tubes. Tubeless, for me, was just far too much faff and the tubeless failures I have seen (mine and other riders) has reinforced my decision. I may try again with larger volume, lower pressure tyres. 🍰🧁

      Thanks for taking the time to comment. My x35 and the Bosch e-bike in the video are very different beasts. If I had to boil this down into a general statement, the x35 is a system that helps the rider whereas that Bosch e-bike the rider tends to help the motor system. As somebody that wants to ride a bike (not a motorbike) I think I still still prefer the x35. The x35 is simply smoother and less intrusive. 🍰🧁

    I have the desiknio bike with x20 system. It doesn't have a torque sensor tho. And from the app I can only see it giving max of 200W of power, instead of 250W.

    • @FiveMinuteVelo
      @FiveMinuteVelo 20 дней назад

      To the best of my knowledge, the X20 system must have a bottom bracket based torque sensor. Happy to be proven wrong though. There is a lack of clarity in the ebike laws. The maximum legal (sustained) power is 250W; as I understand it this is 250W of electrical power. As a general rule the electrical to mechanical conversion is about 80% efficient. 80% of 250W is 200W. This could be the explanation for your low power reading or it may not. As I said, the law is not at all clear.

    It's not really clear to me what problem this HRM solves. Are you worried about the number of coin cells you get through, and what happens to them after use? Eventually the rechargeable battery itself will fail to hold sufficient charge; if the HRM isn't designed to be opened then you'll likely have to bin it when that happens. As you point out though, longevity of these kinds of sensors is often not that great.

    • @FiveMinuteVelo
      @FiveMinuteVelo Месяц назад

      Thanks for the ❓ and the opertunity to clarify some points. The problem it solves?That is what the video explores. I'm not trying to say it is better for everybody, just supplying information and opinions so viewers can make-up their own minds. Personal context is important. For me though, as I say, the rechargeable unit is only marginally better, and probably not ideal for some uses. Finally, my previous experience suggests the weak point on coin cell based units is sweat ingress (I'm quite sweaty) through the battery access 'hatch'. This rechargeable unit removes that weakness. 🍰🧁

      @@FiveMinuteVelo I just noticed Wahoo have announced an HRM strap which is sealed and uses a rechargeable battery. They don't use a cradle, but you do need what appears to be a custom cable with a magnetic attachment to charge it. It's also 4x the price of the Coospo.

      @willlockhart90 > thanks Will, I noticed it. They claim 100 plus hours of battery life, if it is just 100 hours that seems a bit on the short side. However, that is mitigated that it says it has a battery level indicator. A special charging cable is not that much better than having the cradle, they can both be easily lost or misplaced. I'm sure the street price will come down, but still likely to be three times the Cospoo price. I'm not sure what you get for the extra outlay, a proper warranty probably. For me, being the cheapskate I am, I would stick with the cheaper product. If you're not going to provide me with cake, I'll give you some🧁🍰 😜.

    Is there a reason why you didn't go for traditional 'full' toe-clips i.e. the ones that have a strap that loops through the pedal and the top of the toe clip? That would locate the foot even more securely on the pedal - and allows you to pull the pedals up, to a degree. You can leave the strap relatively loose, so it's as easy to take your foot off the pedal as with the half toe clips.

    • @FiveMinuteVelo
      @FiveMinuteVelo Месяц назад

      Having used for full toe-clips in the past, your logic is impeccable. My plan was to move towards full toe-clips, the first stage being the half-toe clips. However, having used the half toe-clips I'm quite happy with them for some styles of riding. I'll keep the full toe-clips as an 'upgrade' option. For greater foot security I'd revert to SPDs. Thanks for taking the time to comment, it's great to know what other riders' views are. 🧁🍰

As I said in the summary, although I've got used to the flat pedals, I do occasionally miss the security of the SPDs. I do find the flat pedals generally better for more sedate riding. 🧁🍰

    Flat pedals make it much harder to get started on steep hills, especially if you're in too low a gear. Having one foot firmly clipped in with SPDs before setting off allows you to keep pedalling with one leg for longer and more time to get moving. Although you'll be fine in Cambridgeshire 😄

    • @FiveMinuteVelo
      @FiveMinuteVelo Месяц назад

      Thanks for taking the time to comment. I don't find starting on the hills any more difficult with flat pedals than with double-sided SPDs. As you correctly stated, I should qualify that I don't have many very steep ⛰️ in Cambridgeshire on which to test the theory out on. 🍰🧁

    Some types of Mikashima/MK pedals allow toe clips but have a little tab on the back that allow you to flip the pedal around by pushing down on the back, thus bringing it inline with your foot to insert into the toe clip.
