    Thom, Your silos look good. They give the flavor of the prototype. I thought about the construction technique I mentioned in the previous video on the Standard Elevator and realized that standing seam roofing from Evergreen probably wouldn't give you a smooth curved surface if you tried to run strips around PVC pipe. It is 40 thousands thick with a 20 thousands groove, it would probably split at the grooves. Right now I don't see any good way to easily duplicate the paneling of the prototype elevator. Hi Thom, I do not know why RUclips deleted my last comment, it did not contain any links. You said you liked the ALCO switchers and I mentioned am I the only one who thinks those ALCO switchers sound like the Jetsons flying car? I also mentioned instead of having the OHI rail switcher push the cars from the passing siding out onto the main, just have the Oak Hill turn couple onto them, push them out onto the main and drop the inbound cars on the passing siding. You can complete both tasks with the Oak Hill turn. That is what I did in my Penn Central Virtual Interchange Video on my Long Valley Branch RUclips page. I also mentioned that extreme cold weather is heading our way as well. Our low Tuesday night is going to be -7. This was another nice ops video and have a safe trip to Indiana. Cheers, Rich S.

    • @thomplacier677
      @thomplacier677 4 дня назад

      @@RWSBaden Good morning Rich. I don’t know why they would have deleted it. Doesn’t sound like you said anything wrong. Maybe the Jetsons is copyright material and their algorithm flagged it? This one came through fine. You are right that the GP7 could do it all, at least in real life. It could probably move the 11 cars at the same time, not sure since I have done so much to reduce the bobbing. Or I could uncouple from the train before I reach Main Street, shove the cars, and go back to get the train. I really life, what I call the Oak Hill turn also had other work to do. It’s 55 miles from Chillicothe to Oak Hill, about 1/2 of that on the mainline where they might have to wait on a siding for a train to pass. There was work to do in other towns along the way which I have ignored in my world, so the train probably left Chillicothe with cars for Hamden, Wellston, and Jackson at the least. The operating pattern changed over the years. Sometimes the train would got from Chillicothe to the yard in Wellston and a crew based in Wellston would switch everything south. In my mind, just like my yard switching, things are happening at the same time even though I can only film one aspect of it. So, the OHI crew helps the Chessie crew get out of town so they don’t ‘outlaw’ ( which was not uncommon) and as soon as they leave the yard limits, they start switching Oak Hill. So they were on duty. Your suggestion is certainly plausible and may be what they would have done. It just gives me an excuse to make the operation more interesting to me and hopefully the people watching. Thank you for your thoughts and comments. I had never considered doing it that way, but may try it at some point in the future. I’m always learning stuff! Have a great Sunday and stay safe!

      @thomplacier677 thanks for the quick reply! Yes, indeed I know Spookshow and in fact that's where my question came from. He is referring to the introduction of slow speed on the Atlas GP7 site and names the introduction of scale speed on the Atlas GP38 site. Further googling produced mixed results, some people say scale speed is even slower that slow speed, some people say they are basically the same. Anyways, many thanks!

    Hi Thom, great session again, running just one locomotive can be fun to do but there is just something about that scene at 5:57. Such interactions immediately add a whole new dimension to any layout. Even in just a small scene. Have to say I also loved that scene on the bridge, looks like a great place to do some spotting. The weather still holding steady here, one or two degrees below or above freezing, so nothing spectacular apart from the fog. Thom, Check out Iowa Scaled Engineering for 3-d printed grain bins. I have 3. they come in sections and you can build them as tall as you want. I have also assembled RIX grain bins. You can make them bigger by carefully bending them flatter or smaller, by bending them the other way. A hair dryer may help with the bending by softening the plastic. Don't use a heat gun 😞. Using plastic pipe and laminating stuff to the outside is also a good way to shape a silo. Seems to me that you could take some Evergreen standing seam roofing of the appropriate seam width and cut strips the right height, laminate them to the right diameter plastic pipe, putting a strip of styrene 0.010"x 0.060" styrene strip on edge around the top of each strip to give you the horizontal seams and then add the vertical seams using the standing ribs that come with the roofing, cut lengthwise to match the width of the strips, and gluing them into the slots in the roofing strips. Boy was that wordy 🙂, fiddly too. From your opening photo one of the silos looks like it's 2 sections higher than the other 2. 10' high by 5' wide looks about right. That would make each section 3/4" tall by 3/8" wide. The tall silo has 10 sections and the other 2 have 8 sections. That would make the tall one 100' high and the other two 80' high. Does that sound about right? Going be an interesting build. I look forward to the next update. Stay safe. Fred
