Hi Thom , another good ops session. I’m setting on my back porch while the dogs run and bark at everything. We had a morning low of 18 and it’s 46 now. It’s been in the teens at night and the upper 30’s during the day for the last week. It’s supposed to warm up for a few days starting tomorrow. I like watching you do the yard work. Kind of gives me ideas for my yard. Thanks for sharing. Have a good weekend. 😎😎 👍
@@tommynorwood5184 Hi Tommy. 46 here at the moment. I’m enjoying watching my friend Fran ‘The 5 Minute Modeler’ run my layout. Thanks for watching and your feedback. Enjoy the rest of your day and stay safe!
Hello Thom, very interesting shunting work in your yard. A list like this is interesting and you can use it to put trains together very well. Thanks for the video, best wishes, stay healthy and see you in the next video. All the best and have a nice time. Wolfgang
@@wolfgangpfeilergartenbahnd6530 Hello Wolfgang, my friend. I hope you are doing well and are almost ready for Christmas. The leaves are almost all down here, so hopefully I can clean off the garden railroad soon and prepare for snow. Have a great week and stay safe!
Thom, I'm late watching this video but I thank you for taking the time to explain how you use JMRI. I always enjoy the Yard action and your narrative my friend. Have a good week. Rich

Good morning Thom, weather first. We are going to be in the 60's for the next few days or close to it. A cool down for a few more days and back up to the 50's for who knows how long. Got to love it. Anyway thanks for sharing and giving an overview of how you do what you do for operations. I usually get some bit of insight on how to improve my own. Those are still evolving. I just finished painting an N scale retail shop which eventually will find a home.

Good Morning Thom, What happened to your NW2 is one of the reasons I like JMRI Decoder Pro. It saves a database of all my locomotives. I've done what you said in the past, accidentally reprogrammed a locomotive I did not want to reprogram. It was just a simple matter of me putting that locomotive on my programming track, opening JMRI Decoder Pro, selecting that locomotive from the list and selecting "Write All Sheets". It was once again programmed. It actually took me longer to write this, than it did for me to reprogram that decoder. That is good to hear Thom that physical therapy may help with your shoulder. I agree it's always best to try the non surgery options first. The new scenery has really changed the appearance of the yard, it looks great Thom. It was also neat to see your video the other day from Chillicothe, you've done a great job of capturing the look of the railroad structures in that area. Now you have to excuse my sometimers 😂Are you putting in a highway overpass beyond the elevator to help hid the transition to your tail tracks? Sounds like you're having Pittsburgh weather Thom. We had a couple of days this past week where the temp was mid 20's, but with the wind, the feels like temp was 11 degrees F. Old man winter is making an appearance early this year. But we've been lucky so far with the snow fall, we just had a light dusting, not like the 2+ feet of snow Erie received. This was another nice yard work ops session Thom, have a good Saturday and I look forward to next weeks video. Cheers, Rich S.
@@RWSBaden Good morning Rich. No, I’m not putting a highway overpass in. There just isn’t enough room for one. I had to end the wide part of the shelf to allow the closet door to swing open as I use that closet for my clothes. I guess I could have moved the elevator toward the yard about 6” or so by that would have put it in the way of throwing switches. I just won’t film any angle where you can see the extension like I do now. That’s the first time I’ve messed up a locomotive that bad and it probably wouldn’t have happened without it being a Zimo decoder. I view my DCC like my TV: I just want it to work when I turn it on. I don’t care about the details. I have followed some instructions on how to change CV’s, but that’s about it. Have a great weekend and stay warm and safe. Still cold here, gradually warming up.
Hi Thom. Obviously a lot of editing the big hand out of the scenes. Great switching speeds. Prototype switching is like watching paint dry. A friend of mine uses colored marked thumb tacks on his N scale. No car cards or switch lists. If a person doesn't mind drilling holes and viewing the tacks on the cars. Nice operating session. I'm now a new sub.
@@mikesimmons8762 Hello again Mike. I used to leave my hand in the videos more. I actually did a poll and it was about 50/50 between leaving it in and editing it out. I think I’ll pass on the tacks, though! 😁 Thanks for watching and subscribing. Enjoy your weekend and stay safe!
Hi Thom, Well done video again. Really helps that you show what you are going to be switching by starting out with the colored dots. So do you get 7 to 8 weeks of videos per operating session now that you have the yard? I haven’t been modeling a lot because I have been spending a lot of time just enjoying running trains. Thinking seriously and testing now how I want to formally operate. I plan to follow my prototype with scheduled commuter trains with all freights being treated as extras. Things to ponder…. Glad to hear you have options to try first before any type of surgery. Hope it works out. Been very cold here, but we are having a heat wave starting tomorrow and Monday touching 50. Have a good weekend and stay safe. Scott
@@kahunatiki6498 Hi Scott. My friend Fran just left after running trains this afternoon. Good times. Yes, I can get a couple of months of videos or more after incorporating the yard. I worry that it’s weighted too heavily toward yard switching, which is why I try to explain as much as I can up front about what I’m doing. Nothing wrong with enjoying running trains. It needs to be bulletproof before you begin operations anyway. Sunny and 46 here today, nice day. Up and down over the next week with some rain mixed in. It’s December after all! Them, Did I miss something, where did the 3 beer can tank cars come from(2 black and 1 white)? Are they cars delivered to Chillicothe yard and left to sit like the flat car, or were they at one of your industries. I don't remember them being switched at any industry. My yard crews help the road crews by blocking cars for the local runs and the local crews return the favor by blocking the returning cars for their offline destinations, ie East bound, West bound, SOO interchange etc. Fred
@@fredgemmill617 Hi Fred. Yes, you’re correct. JMRI sent them to the yard and they sat there until they went back out. Unfortunately, JMRI doesn’t just send cars needed for industries, the program looks at the capacity of the yard and tries to fill it up by choosing cars from the menu with the fewest moves. Since I only have 1 industry that uses tank cars dnd I have 10 or so, it will choose those cars. Just a quirk in the program. My yard crew does block the cars for the local runs, I do it for Douglas Avenue every operating session. This wasn’t a local though, this train is running from Cincinnati to Parkersburg with the only stop in Chillicothe. The yard crew has no idea how to block them as they will be sorted in Parkersburg. I don’t know the destinations for the cars that the local brings back because I haven’t built the interchange trains. I could set destinations for cars from each industry but that really complicates things a lot according to my JMRI guru. So this is the cleanest solution, just let the yard crew do the sorting. Great observations and questions, Fred. Have a great Sunday and stay safe.
