You really added some great titles to your collection, Mark. I LOVE your turntable! That Tina Ike record is so great! No denying the outstanding contributions to Jazz Hampton Hawes provided us. In August 1963, Kennedy granted Hawes Executive Clemency. Hawes was doing a 10 year gig in prison on Heroin charges. Lucky for us. Really great prices for everything you picked up. Congrats buddy!
For 50s jazz musicians and 90s alternative rockers, that was the drug of choice. It's a shame. I opened the Ike and Tina record last night. It's so good. Thanks, that turntable is my favorite piece of audio equipment. 🥶❄️
I never think to check out what vinyl might be available at the big box stores. Seems to me I'm missing out! Great stuff all around, and can never have enough Blue. 😎🎶
No you can’t!🥶
Congratulations on the Hampton Hawes find. Ramones on 8-track! Fantastic! Too bad about the RATM sound quality but it's cool you were able to get the two BF RSD records you were looking for. Thanks for showing the records!
Thanks, Randy. Someone I know told me about the poor sound quality on the RATM release, but I went ahead and bought it anyway. The Hampton LP is beautiful.
@@mad4vinyl802 as a longtime collector of Grateful Dead audience recordings on tape (back in the 1990s) I learned that a fantastic performance shines through a poor recording...I think it's great they (RATM) put it out there for the fans who just want to hear the music. Rock on Mark!
Great haul. Love the Ramones 8 Track! Love it! Cheers
Thanks a lot, Bobby. Cheers
Love the sample from Fruciante/Klinghoffer record, very nice sound, one I will pick up now if I run across it. I have heard some Fruciante solo work before, but you are right, I didn't expect that sound. Very cool and dreamy. Love the 8-track of The Ramones. I've been tempted to pick up a few 8-tracks because of their rarity on certain albums, but they would be just for show since I have no intention of playing them. I grew up mostly in my teen years by playing some vinyl, but mostly 8-tracks. I wish I still had some of those. Nice score on the Joni Mitchell. That is one thing I miss about being closer to the US border is the sales some of these big box store would have on closeout items. I really need to make a trip down to Great Falls, MT soon. The big box stores won't sell vinyl in Canada for some reason. Some very awesome pick ups there. I used to have an original half-speed mastering of The Young Person's Guide to King Crimson and it had a beautiful sound to it. That was quite some time ago, I would imagine that one would be worth a lot now.
I remember my dad used to play 8-track tapes in his car, but I never owned any myself. It's the same with just about any other format: the punk bands are expensive. I've been lucky with the big box retailers, but I think I should stay away for a while. My wallet needs a break.
@mad4vinyl802 Believe me, I know that feeling. I'm probably done adding to the collection until after Christmas because the wallet is crying for mercy.
i have two of Frusciante’s solo albums. I like them but never dug any deeper. cool 8-track.
They're a totally different style to Red Hot Chili Peppers. I'm sure Shaun will love the 8-track. Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving.
Dang, great prices at Target. I checked out a Walmart and they had almost no vinyl in stock. Just 5 feet devoted to it
I've never found anything at Walmart that was on sale. My local store has about as much square footage devoted to vinyl as yours.
Well damn, I saw that Fruscante album and didn’t buy it. It sounded fantastic.
It really is Steve. I’ve been listening to it nonstop.
Fantastic finds Mark. You’re going to make some friend very happy with those Blue stocking stuffers. Hope you didn’t get snowed under. Cheers.
Thanks, Jack. We were fortunate that Buffalo got the brunt of the snow. I've been fortunate at the retail outlets.
The Lenny Kravitz albums are very good. Of course I bought them all on CD. I’ve never seen a Ramones 8-Track.
Ramones 8-Tracks are pretty rare! You just don't see those come up for sale. The last copy in that condition sold for $150, and that was without the box. Lenny is awesome. Thanks, Richie.
Nice finds. Agree with what you said on Lenny Kravitz, I need to find a copy of that with the bonus tracks
Thanks! It's definitely worth looking for that pressing. Lenny is an amazing musician.
A Ramones 8-track! That is cool. The needle drop on A Sphere in the Heart of Silence was really intriguing. I might listen to some more of that. You got some excellent deals.
Those Ramones eight-track tapes never come up. They're highly collectible. I think you'll like Sphere. Thanks, Brian
Hampton Hawes is so great and underappreciated ! Woah !! Joni Blue" I have a good copy, but.. I bet this sounds amazing, no way they're that cheap here out west. I love " California" JT on guitar and Joni on Dulcimer.
Thanks, Jt. I've been enjoying the great music on Blue a lot more now. I think I'm going to invest in a mono cartridge. I'm sure that would enhance the sound in a lot of my mono albums from the 50s.
You would enjoy a mono cartridge, for sure. Especially because you have a 2nd turntable setup. !Now that you are into " Blue" Miles Of Isles and Court And Spark are amazing, and my lifelong favorite " Ladies Of The Canyon" 🎵
I apologize to those who viewed the previous version of this video. I am still adjusting to my new bifocals. 🤓 Please note that all edits were not completed before posting. Obviously, I failed miserably on the time constraint.
Who cares about time constraint? 🙂 Didn't notice a thing!
lol on R Kelly, no truer statement for him, well done Mark. Your shelf is filling up nicely. I always loved Dance Hall Days, but then I was always Cool on Craze. Some favorite songs in the old 45 box. I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving Mark
Thanks, Steve. Holiday was very nice. 🙃
Great singles once again, all of those wonderful James Brown 45's, very nice. Love the Squeeze single, great find with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, love that band. Love "Fall to Pieces" by Velvet Revolver, beautiful song. Very cool Beach Boys on Sub Pop! Another great bunch of singles!
Thanks, Mike. Velvet Revolver was a great supergroup, even though it only lasted a short time. It was a great idea to release The Beach Boys on Sub Pop.
Awesome records, again. Hourglass is such a great track. Timbuk 3 brings back some memories. I do like BRMC. Buffalo Stance has been played enough times in the house now that my kids love it👍
I'm a big fan of Neneh Cherry's album "The Rise of Neneh Cherry.”
Coffee in hand, and a great way to start my Thanksgiving morning, Mark 🦃. I re-read ' King Of The Queen City' this past summer while on vacation. The 45 shelves are filling up fast! I need to do some 45 storage reorganizing on my end: next year's vinyl project. 😎🎶
Thanks, Ed. I hope you're having a relaxing day. I haven't read that book yet. I'm really enjoying getting back into organizing the singles.
@mad4vinyl802 Excellent! Hope you're enjoying your Thanksgiving as well.
Digging those James Brown 45s, that sleeve is awesome! Props to the beastie boys for putting out true jukebox 45s that can be played in a jukebox. Anything Al Green on Hi is worth having. Great collection, Mark!
Thanks, Steve. I'm hoping to get a jukebox to load these singles on one day. I'm sure you're busy cooking up a storm. Have a great Thanksgiving.
The 45's are a good change of pace from the onslaught of LPs shown in the vinyl community. BRMC and Kings Of Leon, pretty cool.. You have other all.. Almost !😊 Beach Boys " Wouldn't It Be Nice !
Thanks, Jt. I’ll try to jump on one of the threads. The Beach Boys single is cool. I love hearing them sing a cappella.
Yes, it's always a treat when the engineer strips down great BB singles !
Mark-always enjoy your 45 videos. You have an awesome, well curated collection. How many 45s would you estimate are in your collection? How long have you been collecting 45s? Do you remember the first 45 you ever bought? For me, I have close to 12K of the little plastic gems....and counting! The first 45 I remember buying with my own money was the Beatles "Lady Madonna". I actually got it the day Martin Luther King Jr. was shot- we heard it on the radio that night as we were driving home. We were all shocked to hear this.
Thanks, Jeff. I'd say I've got at least 10k in my collection. I started collecting 45s when I was really young because I could afford them. I remember spending my allowance on 45s at flea markets. It's a bit of a blur, but I think it might've been "Hound Dog" by Elvis Presley. I'm sure you have bittersweet memories of the day you bought your single. 😞
I go to a lot of the same places in the city, A 1 is the kind of shop you need to check out every so often if you’re near the city. I found some good records there but you need to play them at the store, they are a little over priced. They also don’t clean anything but they do put out some hard to find records sometimes. My favorite store in Manhattan is Academy on 12th street in the east village. I always find good records at that shop and good prices, much better than A 1. The days of good outdoor fairs in the city are over with, there’s very few. Back in the eighties and nineties it was the best.
That's been the general feeling at A1 Records. I don’t need to return. I remember how great outdoor markets were back in the day when records were so plentiful. I miss those days.
Miles Ahead, Kid N Play (that fade!) Rappers Delight! Hardcore looking shop from the outside! 😮 Great Zeppelin ll check for that RL in the deadwax. Great Cale addition too! Lot of hardcore. Sweet Beasties! Beautiful tour! Thanks for taking us along, Mark!
The majority of those flea market records were in poor condition. Zeppelin is not RL. It's always enjoyable to search for them, though. Really nice additions to my Beastie Boys collection. 😀
typo, 18th
A1 is a dump. Ergot Records is where you want to go. Academy Records on West 19th has incredible deals on serious music. I bought the Haydn box complete symphonies Dorati and found inside 33 of the 48 discs were one offs of Phil Austin's remastering, probably his own personal set. Most were not released, one off test pressings with London's American label.
Ergot was closed. A-1 The staff were not friendly!
Honi Soit was a great find. The Reed and Warhol books look great. Beautiful library - interesting exhibits for sure. Sons of Kemet! Looks like you had a very successful visit!
Thanks, Randy. The library is a stunning piece of architecture.
Great finds. This is what I always want to see at estate sales but never see. Only good record I’ve ever found at an estate sale was Ultimate Spinach Behold and see in NM condition. That’s it.
That was a fantastic find - a rare album.
Forever Changes for 5.00, even VG is a steal ! Nice to see the sights in NYC 😊
Thanks, JT. The weather was perfect for a stroll through Central Park-in the low 60s. I was thinking of that album a few months ago. I remember seeing a lot of people showing it. It’s far from being minty fresh…
I know you're not into that type of 60's psych.. Love took a lot from The Byrds as well ! My copy was my earliest VC haul, 4 years ago.. Garage rock, psych and 60's Pop for 80 cents a piece, including Foreever Changes"
@jtsrecordroom3963 Amazing prices. 👍
Nice job finding that LZ in nice condition. I've got a questionable copy of that and haven't been able to get a decent one yet, so I'm just using it as a placeholder for now. Sorry you didn't like the Love album, I do like that one, but I also got one that was in VG+ condition a while ago. John Cale is always worth picking up, he's one of those artists that I'll get anything from, even the bad albums. Love the selections on the wall at Generation Records, some good stuff there, but I couldn't tell what the prices were like. Beautiful Beastie Boys 12" albums there, very nice! That old bookstore looks just like the one in Edmonton that I love called "Wee Book Inn". It's not really what I would call a "wee bookstore" as it has two floors, but it has that old book smell that I love and the old wooden shelves and everything. I'm lucky because they sell a bit of vinyl there too, and I have picked up some great titles there, so I always love to look around in that store (found my $50 Neil Young box set there and also The Byrds box set (both CD's but that's okay) also got Living Colour and Social Distortion there). Great selection of all kinds of books, you would love it there too, I think. I love the section you put in this video of the Library, what a cool place! Emmylou Harris is such a wonderful artist, beautiful vocals, I always love her delivery and interpretation of songs, always so heartfelt. Amazing price on that particular album and on Lyle Lovett and all of the other ones you found. I've always loved to browse the records in Barnes & Noble, they always seem to have some great prices on many of their discounted records. Great video!
The "love" album is in rough shape, with some surface noise and marks. You can sometimes find great deals at these bookstores that sell records or CDs. The albums at Generation were expensive. I can always find something I like on John Cale records. Wrecking Ball is a great recording, and Daniel's production is excellent. Have a great weekend Mike.
Wrecking Ball is one of my all time favorite albums. I love Joshua Judges Ruth, I can not believe the prices you go those for. I just checked mine and it pretty much sucked for albums on sale
It's interesting that each location has different prices. You'd think it would be a corporate set sale. The two albums you mentioned are high on my list as well. 👌
That Warhol biography is fantastic. I know I paid a lot more for my copy haha. I am currently reading a biography on Marc Rothko. Loved that old book store. Also the footage of the library was fantastic, thank you for sharing that. Seems to me you drug your siblings all over the place.
I'm really enjoying the Warhol biography. I did manage to find some time to myself. I should say that my sister was responsible for taking me to the Louis Vuitton display, which was a quite painful.
Nice footage throughout. I have never heard that Love LP. It's probably not in my wheelhouse, though. I love Honi Soit (of course)! I went to the Strand on one trip to NYC. Nice looking Lou Reed book. You got some great deals on new records.
Thanks, Brian. I've had to exercise a lot of self-control over the last month or so because there are so many great deals on vinyl records and CDs. I've seen them in retail shops and at my local record shops.
You’d like that album.
I won't make it back to Generation Records until January 2025, give or take. Very easy to get lost in there! That Lou Reed bio is fantastic: I bought that when it came out, and Will Hermes is an excellent writer. I'll be at Bryant Park the first weekend in Dec, so an easy detour into the NY Public Library, which I always love. Wrecking Ball - perfect. You packed in a lot, Mark!
Thanks, Ed. Let's try to sync up our schedules next time I'm in the city. I spent a lot of time in the basement of Generation Records going through their singles. I might've bought a few more than I featured. 🙃
@@mad4vinyl802 Sounds like a plan!
damn how’d you flip right by Jimmie Walker Dyn-O-Mite!?!? Hahah. NYC used to be great for record stores. But these days I find it pretty I dunno kinda disappointing. The Fat Boy Slim version of Body Movin’ is best version of that song. I’m guessing it must be on that 12”.
I had a similar experience with the record shops. Generation is still a standout. The Beastie's mix is awesome. It’s Dyn O Mite! 🧨
I remember walking into those lower east side record stores back in the 00’s and they were filled with amazing records
@ yeh LES aint what it used to be unfortunately.
@Pluralofvinylisvinyls I have fond memories of those days!!
Great trip to the city Mark. As well as being a vinyl addict I’m also addicted to books. Love bookstores, but restrict my book sources to our local public library. My records take up enough space, but if I did the same with books there would be no room to move. I live vicariously through book collections like yours. New York Public Library is on my list of places to visit on my next visit to NYC. Cheers.
Thanks, Jack. I check out a lot of books from my local library, but I also collect old first editions of classics and have lots of music books, biographies, and art books. The New York Public Library is a real treasure and it is free to the public. There are also so many fantastic museums to explore. Cheers.
Thank you for this list. I can really imagine how this selection of music can totally set the mood, or complement it. Btw. I recommend you get one of those Bluetooth Mics it doesn’t have to be an expensive one to really boost your quality
Thanks for watching and for the recommendation. My previous phone had an input for a wired mic. I've been using the built-in mic on my current phone. I agree with you on that point. I'm never quite happy with the sound quality.
I need to check out Damien Rice. Never heard of him until now. Great music for a gathering. I wouldn’t want to leave lol. What do you play when you want people to go home? 😂
You are going to love Damien Rice; I have no doubt. That’s a great album to start with!!!!
Congratulations, Mark! That’s a great find! There were some enjoyable titles in there.
Thanks, Steve. I only took home that one record. A few of the ones I had an eye on were not in great condition.
You know we’re twins on that Beastie’s! So cool you picked up the OG companion record for it! Two great Smith records! Beautiful cars copy. I wonder if remastering can bring Steely to life. Those Anthology comps are fantastic! I love mine too! Great 7”! Nice buys, Mark!
The first thing that came to mind when I saw "Way Out" was you. 🙃From what I've heard, the Steely Dan album wasn't recorded to the same standard as their other releases. I'm on the lookout for mint-condition copies of those Anthology compilations. They're fantastic. I'm anticipating your next dig!
Oh wonder why I don’t have dinner parties , people would be running away from me,y musical selections lol. Very cool list Mark, if I have a party I will call you first
We’ll have a rock ‘n’ roll revival party!!
Seems like a great program for the evening. I'm not familiar with Damien Rice. I'm with you on Astral Weeks for sure - so awesome. Enjoyed it Mark!
I've discovered that many people are unfamiliar with Damien's music. I highly recommend checking it out. Thanks, Randy
i woulda slipped Dead Milkmen Beelzebubba right in the middle to keep em on their toes 😂
I have that one on vinyl, easy to do!
Great selections for a casual party. I would love to do one of your parties, I can imagine just from your selections that they are quite enjoyable. Also, a great idea for a video!
Thanks, Mike. I figured it would be a nice change of pace from my recent vinyl finds and 7-inch singles series. Always casual🙃
Years back a friend would have guests pick the next song during gatherings, was a fun way to spent time together. People looked forward to sharing sounds
That's a great idea. I've had friends pick out albums from my collection before. There's a great board game called "Song Burst" that we would play.
Intriguing video. I have seen that Damien Rice CD from time to time, but I am not familiar with his music at all. I guess I should have a listen!
You’ll enjoy it.
Cool idea for a video, Mark. When I host and have friends over, I spend more time picking out the music to play than I do the food for my guests! But, they're used to that.😆 Jump In The Line! I've not seen that Coltrane/Hartman release before.
I think the Coltrane release is really beautiful. I also tend to obsess over what music to play. You can never go wrong with Sade.
@mad4vinyl802 Sade on vinyl has been pricey for quite some time now, I am finding. But, I've got plenty on the good ol' iPod Classic!
Great idea for a video Mark. Picking dinner music for people who are not as into it as we are is a delicate balance. Familiar is always best, quiet is better than loud. Cheers.
Thanks, Jack. I hope you’re enjoying your time in France.
I should listen to my Damien Rice Cd " O" .. I've forgotten about it ! 😊
It’s fantastic, beautiful acoustic music.
Good idea for a video, and some nice and easy music, for a change 🎵 Belefonte, Marvin, Sade and Aretha, the queen of soul, and everything else !
Thanks, JT! Aretha Franklin is a great addition to any dish. 🍲 That two-CD set has so many classics. It's hard to imagine someone with so much talent and such a great piano player to boot.
Absolutely ! Aretha is my favorite female artist.. Ever !
Nice find. I got OG copies of Meat Is Murder and their debut at my local shop about 5 years ago. I think I paid $30 for each.
Thanks, Kevin. You paid a fair price for your copies. I still have my original copy, which I bought as a teenager. This was such a random find, I had to share.
