Nice video and some excellent pick-ups! That first Smith LP was pretty big back when it came out about 1970, and they had a huge radio hit with "Baby, It's You" Gotta love those super clean 45s!! Very nice!
A lot of show Smith ! They were my first rock concert ( 1970 ) These albums are beyond clean, Mark ! The Marvelettes tried to get me up onstage at The Sahara in Vegas.. I wouldn't go ! She gave me a look that could kill ! Haha😆 ( There was a plant in the audience, just in case ) Flamin' Groovies is my favorite "Louie Louie".. I bet it's on there !
That cover (Groovies) isn't on the album, unfortunately. You should've gone up Jt. 🤣 I really enjoyed the Smith album. Her voice reminded me of the singer of Cold Blood. Yes, they were all extremely clean, except Louie Louie, which is in very good condition (VG). 👍
Glad you like Smith, and I get the comparison to Lydia Pense ! I think " Baby It's You" was one of my favorite singles from 1970.. Us kids loved that song back in the day !
You know we’re twins on that Beastie’s! So cool you picked up the OG companion record for it! Two great Smith records! Beautiful cars copy. I wonder if remastering can bring Steely to life. Those Anthology comps are fantastic! I love mine too! Great 7”! Nice buys, Mark!
The first thing that came to mind when I saw "Way Out" was you. 🙃From what I've heard, the Steely Dan album wasn't recorded to the same standard as their other releases. I'm on the lookout for mint-condition copies of those Anthology compilations. They're fantastic. I'm anticipating your next dig!
Nice pickups once again. I believe A Band Called Smith is one of those hard to find and highly sought after albums, at least it was at one time. At least I know it's one I've been on the look out for. I wish they would remaster Steely Dan's Katy Lied especially since it is such a great album, probably my 2nd favorite of theirs after Aja. I've heard of that Louie Louie album, but never thought I would actually see one anywhere. Not sure I'd want to hear the same song over and over, but I was more intrigued by some of the bands covering that song, so I would have picked it up because I've always been so curious about it. Love the label on the Esther Philips single. Nice job with the San Francisco promo label, great find. Same thing with the Chess label. You always find the gold with your 45's.
I was under the impression that "Katy Lied" was going to be part of the Analog Productions reissue series, which means it's going to be pretty pricey. I don't think that album was recorded particularly well to begin with, but I'm sure there are improvements to be had. All of the singles were fairly priced, but the Chuck Berry one was the best! Hearing the same song over and over was a bit much. Thanks, Mike. Hope you're doing well.
The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game! I still have those Motown Anthology series LP sets I picked up in my teen years. The booklets are pretty great also. I see Smith out there, but yet to come across in good shape. Great 7"s as usual! 🎶😎
This is another fine batch of records. I quite like the Level 42 LP. I have seen Smith mentioned a few times, and everyone seems to like them. That's a really solid Cars record. Cool finds! Sad Brian Wilson story. I don't know much about his circumstances with that doctor.
The Brian Wilson situation is really sad. I can't think of the specific one off the top of my head, but there's a documentary that goes into a lot of detail about the abuse from that doctor. I also like the Level 42 album. It was a pleasant surprise and a nice throwback.
That first Smith album was pretty good and cheap but I n3ver got into their other albums. That Louie Louie is interesting and a little scary on who is doing the song. You found a lot of stuff. Cool Riverside singles. Guess those songs were a little longer since they all are parts 1 and 2. Very cool Pharoh Sanders.
To be honest, I think they could've fit those Riverside singles on one side. There's a lot of dead wax there. I'm pretty happy with the first Smith album. There is certainly a mix of genres on the Louis Louie album. Have a nice weekend, Steve.
i remember someone showing that Smith band too but cant think who it was. Maybe JT in Reno? Nice copy of Heartbeat City. It is a greatest hits like you said. cool stuff dude.
I'm a big fan of Heartbeat City. It's a great album from the '80s that was recorded properly without overusing the technology of the day. I agree with you that it might've been JT. 👍

Thanks, Jeff. I do like the first Smith album. I lucked out with the Chess single!

Those Miami Sound Machine and Cars ones look so mint!!! I'm the same when it comes to buying used.
I really enjoy The Cars. It looks as good as it sounds. Thanks for your feedback.

They're fantastic. I've had mine for years as well. It'd be great to have nice, clean copies. Talk to you soon..
@mad4vinyl802 Sounds good!

Junior played with The Style Council on a few tracks circa mid 80's.
Thanks for that info. I really dug that album. 👍

Please be advised that there has been a miscommunication. Jeff Porcaro is the drummer, not Steve.
