Hey barclay! Actually the centrifugal brakes were quite good on the reel and didn’t require much thumbing at all. Sadly, I didn’t get any weights of the reel beforehand but there might be published information on that for the stock reel. With the current setup, I’ve actually swapped the spool and brake assembly to the magnetic versions, the reel now comes in at around 249g. Granted the aftermarket handle I went with isn’t exactly lightweight. Anywho, hope that helps and cheers my friend!

Hey Patrick! Haha yea… actually I spooled up the reel afterwards and it turned out ok. I don’t think I want to bother trying to perfect the centering of the line guide as the reel isn’t really my favorite to use. While it casts well it can be a bit temperamental vs some other offerings out there. Cheers my friend!

@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL I also found if your standing sideways it spools to the side the line is aimed, if you facing straight toward the extended line it comes in straight on spool.

@@patrickhartman6818 hey Patrick! Yep! In that case you’re almost forcing a line lay bias by having the reel sideways. I always try to spool with my line spoiler so the reel and spool are centered on each other. You can also guide the line with your thumb while spoiling to correct biased but this isn’t ideal imho. Hey Ricardo! Ah are you talking for the handle knobs? I’ve got some gapping tools for spark plugs but I just haven’t bothered to use them for this type of thing. Tbh, I usually just replace handles instead of bothering with shimming. Good tip though! Cheers my friend!

Hey Jacob! Try cranking your brakes on the SF to maybe 2.5 and then cast super hard. You’ll get those light lures to go even farther than the AA. I’m actually kind of hoping that this new ve2 pro will be cheaper and cast the same as the SF but only time will tell. I honestly have a bit of a hard time recommending the AA if people have to potentially dig into it so far but it does cast quite well even with line lay issues. It’s a bit of a cautious recommendation with a caveat and disclaimer lol. Cheers my friend!

Hey creek! The way I think of it is where the line lay is building up. If your line lay is building up too much on the right side then it means your line guide and worm shaft is too biased to that side. The fix would be to push the line guide and worm shaft towards the left by shimming the right side. So actually yes you are correct. Looking back at the text I put I think I actually left the opposite instructions. I’ll leave a pinned comment and edit the description to reflect this. Thanks for picking up on that! Hey Arlo! I’ve actually cast a 0.3g lure with this and the Solomon 2 rod but it only goes around 15-20ft. Imho, 0.5g is a more usable weight and that same setup is capable of around 30ft casts. Hope that helps! Cheers my friend!

Hey David! Currently the smallest reel they have is the b50/51. However, it is only available in a dbc-1 or dbc-2 configuration. If you want a non dbc reel you will have to wait a bit as their non digital b50 reel is slated to be released AFTER a few other reels. Hope this helps and cheers my friend!

Hey user! You are definitely more than welcome to not like or prefer baitcasters but they have a place and many folks enjoy them quite a bit. Personally, I’ve been using spinning reels all my life and have found them to be extremely inaccurate and also a bit in the boring side to fish with. Baitcasters offer a lot more fun, excitement and accuracy over spinning setups. Each style has its own pros and cons for sure though. Anywho, even though you don’t seem to appreciate baitcasters I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment! Cheers my friend!

Hey Chadwick! I do have the calculated average IPT of the DWU which is about 24.2 IPT. However, as I don’t know the inner diameter of the DF50 I do not have the calculated IPT for that reel. Hope that helps and cheers my friend!

@@tannermccalister9841 hey tanner! Technically yes but you would be basically destroying the c-clip that holds the spool pin in place. For some reason the Acura and other DWU variants do not use a press fit spool pin and instead use a c-clip to hold the pin in place. This is the reason why you need to use this method for the Acura and Acura pro as well as other DWU variants. Hope that helps! Cheers my friend!

Hey doug! So I would say that the original ve2 is actually the… original design. What that means is that it won’t cast below 1g very well. If you’re not casting below 1g then this might not matter to you much. However, the kestrel has a few improvements over the Ve2. It has 11 ball bearings, a carbon fiber frame vs graphite of the ve2 and can cast below 1g adequately. Kk China has a newer version of the ve2 and kestrel elite they are calling the “pro” models. I have one incoming to test and see how much better it is vs the original ve2. Kk USA I believe is trying to see if there is interest in these models and I believe is trying to market them as MFS or micro finesse system. More marketing term soup for the masses I guess… Anywho, the original ve2 is a nice reel and is very convenient to cast but it does sacrifice a tiny bit of distance. I am hoping that this new “pro” model does not do that. I would say the kestrel is a good in between model that probably sits, performance wise, in between the original ve2 and the ve2 pro. We will have to see though. Cheers my friend!

Hey micro! I wrote this response to another person who requested I look at the giu99. I was actually looking at the giu99. However, a couple things are stopping me from reviewing it. The first is that there really isn’t much difference from the aurora air. The spool weight is 0.2g lighter, it has a silver paint job and the knobs are different but that’s about it. The bearings are also salt water resistant in the aurora air. So… imho the aurora air, with its new lower price of around $35usd, is the right choice to make over the giu99 imho. If the price of the giu99 drops to a more reasonable price I may review it but the differences are so little compared to the AA so it’s hard to justify a review just for it. Hey Jay! Fly fishing is definitely on my “to do” list as well but unfortunately don’t have the time to delve into bfs and learn to fly fish. When I first reviewed/unboxed that reel it was something like $70 and the unit I received had so many QC issues… this one, during the sale, was only $33 so I picked up a second. Mine still has a few issues so I’ll likely put out a video showing how to fix those problems as this reel has tons of potential. Hey peppita! Thanks so much for the suggestion! I am very humbled that you would request that I review other reels that are outside of the channel’s little niche =). Unfortunately, I think I am at the point where there is so much BFS material and only so much time that I would really be overextending myself a bit too much I think. Also, larger reels and gear aren’t really my passion and interest. That said, I am slowly picking up slightly heavier duty gear such as the 23’ metanium but I brought it back down to bfs levels by “tuning” it with a bfs spool and line guide 😅. I just can’t seem to get bfs off my mind unfortunately lol. I will keep your consideration and request in the back of my mind though and if/when I have more bandwidth I may take you up on that offer. I mean, I saw the other day how you took a part a Reel and then put it back together and I’m like this guy knows what he’s doing and if he could get out of that zone, a lot more people will start watching there’s not much channels out there that do what you did with that BFS real if you start doing that with other reels are more affordable people that don’t know much about them would help a lot of people make decisions

Maybe in the future I can expand into other reels but for the time being my passion and interest lies with bfs tackle =). I feel like I would be doing a bit of a disservice if I weee to just look at other gear simply to gain a bigger following. The goals of the channel and main reason I started it was to help people learn about their bfs gear but also to help people find great deals and the right tools for what they need. My main aim is to be an educator and not an advertiser. If and when my free time opens up and other fishing tackle calls to me I will definitely look into it. Again, I am extremely thankful and humbled by your suggestion and recommendation. It really means quite a bit to hear someone like yourself say that I should expand the genre of the channel.
