    That looks like it could be a good alternative to the tender shoot for sure. I like the size and the weight specs. I wonder how actual on the water performance compares to it, as well as to the Calcutta Conquest and Millionaire CT SV. I can’t wait to see the in depth video. Get healthy soon, and stay healthy my friend. Have the wife make you a good ginseng chicken soup. Hey Kenneth! Oooooo fishing chicken soup, samgaetang, does sound pretty amazing right now… Will keep that in mind mmmmmm. Haha thanks for the reminder on that! As far as the performance goes though unfortunately I only have the Tendershoot and Millionaire to compare to which I will try to share in the on the water video. To be honest, all three reels are a bit different in what they are supposed to be used for in terms of lure weights and what not. Anywho, thank you for the request as well as soup suggestion! I will keep it in mind and try to touch on that in one of the follow up videos! Cheers my friend!

    I would like to know more about it such as in the way of is .6 goh the largest diameter line that can be used? And how well it would hold up to crappie fishing.

    • @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
      @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL  Год назад +1

      Hey rou! Thanks so much for the question! Will do my best to answer. Just to be clear, 0.6goh is not the largest diameter like that can be used. You can upsize if you’d like but you will not be able to fill as much line as they state for the 0.6goh size. In any case, for bfs applications you wouldn’t want to fill more than around 50m of line on the spool. As far as your question about the reel holding up to crappie fishing I don’t see why it wouldn’t. The reel is a full CNC aluminum frame and is very sturdy. The drag strength should be plenty for crappie and really it’s more about whether you have a smooth drag rather than the overall drag strength number. I hope that helps answer your questions and cheers my friend!

    Visually these round reels are quite pleasing to the eye but not sure yet about using them. I prefer low profile baitcasters. However I would love to see a comparison video, comparing round reels with the low profile ones. I mean by taking some measurements to see if there are any notable differences in height, weight, weight distribution, balance and of course handling. It would be awesome. Thanks for this vid too.

    • @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
      @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL  Год назад

      Hey upstreamer! So, you are completely right there. Basically, the allure of round reels is just that they look like an older more classic/nostalgic design. There really isn’t much more that is “superior” about them over a low profile reel. It’s true that their frames are typically CNCd out of aluminum, which makes them “light” and strong, but you’ll get better weight savings with a low profile reel. Also, offset or the height of the reel above the rod’s reel seat varies quite a bit between round reels. I think the reason we are seeing an increase in the number of round reels on the market is mainly for “prestige”. Notice that Shimano and Daiwa both have their flagship round reel designs in the Conquest and the Millionaire and so I think the CDM wants to see their own versions of these reels. In the future, I’d be more than happy to show how reels “sit” on a handle but really how I end up handling a reel changes with the different types of reel seats as well. Quite a few variables in the “ergonomics” aspect of reels and reel seats… Anywho, I appreciate the suggestion and will def take it into consideration! Thank you for taking the time to comment and cheers my friend!

  • @MONGO573
    @MONGO573 Год назад +1

    I own them both and the round reels are a work of art like the Daiwa, Ryoga, and pluton or the Shimano, Calcutta conquest and in my opinion, are much more durable than the low profile counterparts

    • @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
      @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL  Год назад +1

      Hey Harry! I do agree for whatever reason round reels are held to a higher build standard and are also made out of more durable materials than their low profile counterparts. I do think the main appeal though is that they make people feel like they’re holding a piece of history. Either way, they are amazing pieces of engineering and works of art imho. Everything about this reel seems to exceptional. I just think that if they dropped the price by about $50, I would jump all over it, as would many others. Great video once again and can't wait for the teardown. PS. will you be doing a video on the purelure Silver Feather because when I used it the first time for a couple of hours it was screatching and felt very over braked, however, having used it again for a couple of hours it has completely freed up and is much better bracked. It has been quite the transformation, would love a teardown of this intriguing reel

    • @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
      @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL  Год назад +1

      Hey Frank! I would also love to see them drop the price a tad to help give folks more incentive to try the reel out. I am trying to see if they’ll maybe consider some sort of intro discount but I think their costs to manufacture are fairly tight so we’ll have to see if it’s something that they can do. I will have some videos on the purelure out soon but for the time being I think the loongze will take a bit of priority before I really get a chance to test out the purelure more. Man, I have that reel for more than a month already, it's fire when casting lure with smaller air resistance like jighead, spoon and small lipless. it's CNC crafted, means it's carved from a entire aluminum block, that's why its frame is stable with such light weight. And you can order a regular 100 size spool for like 30$. Im using it on my M power rod now with that spool. And they have just come out with a DC version of it for an extra 30$( like the shimano dc...)

      Hey lovetofishbfs! That’s a totally fair opinion and one that works for some folks. That being said, the purpose of these videos is to show folks what offerings are there on the market and to evaluate them as they are. It’s definitely good to compare and contrast products for sure and we, as informed consumers, should always be looking on how to best spend our hard earned dollars. That being said, what works for you might not work for everyone. Additionally, the cq and this reel, I’m finding, aren’t quite the same at all. This reel comes in 60g lighter than the CQ bfs, it has a much larger spool diameter, it is coming in under the price of a cq, and uses a vastly different braking setup. If those things are interesting to you then this reel might not be a bad option. However, if you absolutely need made in Japan quality, want a smaller diameter spool, don’t mind the extra weight, and like the ftb braking style then the cq will be an amazing fit. In any case, I greatly appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment and share your thoughts! Cheers my friend!

While I totally get where you’re coming from, I also get the feeling that some of your factual opinions might not be so factual and more opinion but that’s totally fair and ok! I do agree that used Japanese reels are a very great place to look when looking to purchase a reel but I’d probably point people more towards a reel like a used Aldebaran, a used conquest, used millionaire, etc. There’s a plethora of used reels that don’t need an aftermarket drag clicker like the AATW but that’s also a personal preference I think. Your over exaggeration of these reels being made in a basement is bit much but I do appreciate the humor and I hear what you’re saying. Fortunately, people have differing opinions, monetary backgrounds, needs and wants and that’s what makes us all unique and great! Just wanted to touch on your last statement that companies need someone to feast on… you are right on that, we have a lot of US “brands” that basically survive off nothing more than being middle men. It’s a bit saddening to see how that is actually a valid business model imho… I love direct to consumer business models and I love companies and manufacturers that listen to their target audience. Anywho, before my response gets too long 😅, thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts and opinions! Love hearing thoughts from all perspectives as it tells me that people want their voices to be heard. Thanks again and I hope you have a warm and happy holidays! Cheers my friend!

    The looks are quite impressive, but I need to see it performing on the water before adding it to my small collection of BFS reels. Also, I wonder how the bearings will perform after some good hours of fishing. :D
    That spool with a mobile inductor reminded me of Haibo's AMC+ system which is not being dynamically adjusted but manually and it has 3 levels.
    Can't wait to see a teardown. I'm curious how the main gear looks like. How big the teeth are. Because if they have copied Shimano's Calcutta Conquest BFS 2017's micro module 2 (this looks identical to that, not to the 23 model), it's definetly a red flag. I don't trust their build quality on that and Shimano had issues with micro module 2 anyway. That's the reason they've went back to larger teeth and called that technology infinity xross :D (see the new Shimano Vanquish 2023). Or simply micro module on the new Calcutta.
    Can you please take a look at the main gear? Is that possible?
    Thank you!

      Hey Andrei! I will definitely have a on the water casting video as well as a teardown. I meant to film the on the water video yesterday but it was gusting up to around 20-25 mph and not ideal for casting at all lol… pretty frustrating but that’s how things go sometimes. If I’m unable to film a casting video this week I will at the very least film a teardown. I will pay close attention to the main gear and pinion. I don’t feel that the teeth on this reel are cut small as I do feel a bit of resistance and a tiny bit of geariness on an unloaded retrieve. However, when I had some tension from my lure the geariness feeling would disappear. There is also 0 and I mean 0 slop in the handle which is something that the aldebaran surprisingly has. One of my pet peeves is when the handle will move in/out or side to side… this reel does not do that at all. Anywho, thank you so much for your request and for taking the time to comment! Cheers my friend!

    Definitely an interesting reel but when it comes to overall weight it’s easy for these CDM reels to one up Daiwa or Shimano because it they sacrifice durability and the reels fails down the road it’s not a big deal, Shimano and Daiwa have to deliver a balance of everything to protect their reputations. Don’t get me wrong I love seeing all these new CDM reels flooding the market because it forces Daiwa and Shimano to try harder and not be complacent in the market. For me I will and cannot pay over $150 for a CDM reel and honestly don’t like to pay more than $250 for a non Japanese made reel.

    • @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL

      Hey Eddie! I totally agree with you on that front, especially when it comes to questions about long term durability and quality. However, the reels do come with a 1 year parts warranty and a lifetime repair warranty according to loongze. A bit unusual for a CDM brand to offer warranties but I think it could be a plus. How to actually redeem the warranty is another story which I will look into. As far as pricing goes I also agree with you there. The reel on paper and, I think, in practice is a very solid entry but I think a lot of folks will have a hard to opening their wallets when Japanese reels are so close in price. Definitely a challenge that loongze will have to figure out how to overcome imho. It’s zinc alu cast is junk! I wouldn’t spend more than $60 on one again! Got a heap of the cheap ones and for the price they’re great but I’ll be sticking with the typical brands from now on! I’ll admit it’s been put to heavy use but no where near it’s limits of drag.

There’s so many potential causes for premature gear failure be it poor design, poor manufacturing, extreme use conditions, etc… that being said, main gears shouldn’t prematurely fail after only 6 months of use. I am just sharing what new products are coming to market so that people can get an idea of what is out there. • @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
      @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL  Год назад

      Hey Christopher! This is meant to be a bfs or finesse style reel. These types of reels do not seek to put a high quantity of line as the goal of the reel is to cast lightweight lures. So… I’m not sure you can really fault the company for going with a specific type of spool for a specific type of reel? That being said I do believe they have the ability to create deep spools for this frame that would work just as well. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts my friend and cheers!

    • @christopherromina5445
      @christopherromina5445 Год назад +1

      @@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL ok. But with a regular baitcasting reel you can still cast light lure's, buying this real is really pointless cuz I would never buy this

    • @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
      @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL  Год назад +1

      @christopherromina5445 hey Christopher! I hear ya! Although, hear me out. With a conventional bait caster lightweight lures can’t really be cast any sort of reasonable distances due to physics. A traditional baitcast spool will be very deep, and typically are very heavy. Those two things make the moment of inertia very high which makes a lightweight lure not able to get that spool to start spinning. When I refer to lightweight lures I am taking about lures that weight anywhere from 0.5-10g. So bfs and finesse reels facilitate being able to cast lightweight lures by having spools with a very low moment of inertia and brakes that allow for very fine control of the lures being cast. Anywho, I totally hear what you’re saying and the great thing is that if the style of fishing doesn’t work for you then you’re totally free to choose the gear that does work for you. That’s what’s great about all the different styles of fishing. Anywho, I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and to comment on the video. Cheers my friend!
