This is one of the best explanations of the baitcasting system that I've watched! I'm looking to have my 1st Tatula, and I'm expecting to buy this one. Thanks for the tutorial!
One of the most informative, well produced videos I've seen. As someone who just got their first Daiwa (shimano owner) SV TW for Christmas this video was what I needed.
I've learned to throw my baitcaster setup with the reel at an angle or sideways like it was shown in the video. It just seemed more natural and less awkward to me, with way less backlashes and more casting distance. This video explains the mechanics of why casting this way is better. Thanks! I appreciate it
I gave turning the rod when I cast a try yesterday and it totally worked. What a great tip. I thought it would be awkward but it felt completely natural.
i'm not going to lie...i really thought you were going to start the vid with, "first and foremost take the stock spool out and put in this SV BOOST spool...link in the description..." seriously, great vid man...no clue how this channel isn't at 100k subs at the very least at this point...just cray cray.
Great breakdown! I never would have given baitcasters another try had Ben not talked me into it a few years ago! What a difference good gear makes when it comes to casting and the SV TW makes it fun!
I've had a Tatula SV TW for a couple of years, but have never REALLY used it because of backlashes and/or NO DISTANCE. This tutorial was an excellent "hey try this" because I know WHAT to try and how to try it, again and again until I improve to where I would like to be.. Plus what type rod to marry the reel with. Thank you. I plan to give you some feed back in a couple of weeks as I am going on an rv trip next week to a SW Alabama CG along the TomBigBee waterway.
thanks for the video, I just recently bought a tatula . this is my 1st daiwa reel. this video was very informative and certaintly gives me a better understanding
great quality video. i honestly thought it was going to be more of a newbie or for someone just getting into fishing. i was wronged and i learned new things bout my daiwa reels which i love
Perfect timing! I just got a 22 Zillion HD for my birthday this weekend. This is my first TW system. This is a change for me coming from shimano but I’m really really liking this system so far
Excellent video and very informative. I have several Diawa’s and always listen to my spool to find that ideal spot while adjusting the tension. Nice having this explained. As a side note, in a recent video Ben discussed the 4 aspects of the hyper-design and basically outlined why the Zillion and Steez go above and beyond. Keep up the great work and quality videos!
3:10 This right here, exactly explains why I haven't gotten a DC reel like the rest of my closest friends. Yes, it took them a week or two to get the basics down while it took me months of me going out every morning to cast and get it right. Now, I can cast my Zillion without even thumbing the spool(Mostly) because I've learned how to fine-tune it to my rod, baits and line choice.
You mess with the tension knob? I thought they came out of factory fine tuned, only have to mess with brakes I thought? I have the Zillion SV TW G, and its a work horse.
Thank you! Thank you.! The best crash course in baitcasting ever. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us across the pond. Cheers from Australia. Sup Geoff..!?
Really great video....another tip I can also add to such a great video...is make sure you take time spooling your real properly....I have found if I am lazy and put on line half assed...I have more issues casting and having back lashes!
Good video just got my zillion today and have the tatula 150 love my tatula can’t what to get in the feel of the zillion I can already tell it won’t disappoint
Great Video! I always cast as you showed. I did, however tighten my Zero Adjuster just a tiny bit and run my brakes on 4 on my JDM Zillion. it's a great reel for beginners.
Replaced all of low profiles with Daiwas starting a little over two years ago. The DC just wasn't doing it for me. I heard people say for a long time that the DC was better for bomb casting and the SV spools were better for stuff like skipping. My own experience has been that the SV system is better at both.
One neat feature from daiwa especially reels with sv spool is you can literally go as loose as you want on the tension knob and you'll cast better than ever.
Great video. I’m new to bait casters and I have the Tatula reel you using. Thanks so much for explaining how to use it and how everything works. I was about to give up after backlash number 15. I’ve gotten a lot better.
I’ve just started watching and following your videos on here some really good information I’ve got one daiwa tatula 100 I use for heavy tackle and now I’m getting into bfs stuff so I bought a daiwa ss air tw love it to but wow it’s a hole different animal to cast still trying to figure it out but after watching this video I believe I’ll get the hang of it thanks for helping out fellow anglers keep up the good work you got me hooked for sure
Thanks Ben, definitely like the Daiwa SV system especially on the Zillion but works fine on my Tatula 150. Shimano’s. I like Shimano’s infinity system also. Thanks for the tips!
Excellent video. Just received my second sv70. Went to set it up and adjust the Mag dial and will not budge. All my product comes factory direct. Been on their VIP Program for 40 years. Any suggestions before I call Diawa?👍
Thanks for sharing Ben, and you have some of the best shipping out there ordered Sunday and fed ex just dropped off a package. One of the best tackle shops out there
My advice, as a beginner with baitcasters who has a little experience now, to beginners, is to only side cast or roll cast until you've got that down before you try overhead casting, pitching, flipping, skipping, etc.
Great Video !! Great Tips !! so glad I subscribed ! I have 3 Zero adjuster reels and 1 older SV TW 103HL (no zero adjuster) it's still an Amazing reel !!
Oh my goodness, in my years of fishing I’ve never tried their the rod/reel sideways for an overhead cast. Perhaps I’ve done it unintentionally, totally trying this.
I can’t really afford a Steez reel but the Daiwa Zillion sv tw g is by far my favorite reel. I also have a Zillion hd for my 2-4 ounce swimbaits and wake baits and that’s a bad ass reel as well!
I can’t get hang of casting my high end Steez and SPL Zillions for whatever reasons. It’s like can’t get enough distance out of them without backlashing looseness settings? I’m def doing something wrong. Been using bait casters for 20+ years
Should give a guide to the DAIWA STEEZ A TW HLC I can’t get this thing to cast good at all. Changed line and throwing heavy baits and swimbaits. Running 20lb on it. Backlash all the time.
Really liked this intro. Completely new to baitcasting (always been open face) as my son got me the Daiwa Tatula CT 100H reel. Ccan you recommend a rod size/speed that would be good for a beginner? Also I like to fish braid, typically 20lb. Is this weight good for the reel or other and what is a good backing weight behind the braid? Thanks so much for any answers you can provide.
Great video as always, very informative on the Daiwa features. Does the zero adjust knob work the same for the Fuego? Should I adjust the same way as you demonstrated?
Really good video. Im new to baitcasters. Ive always used spinners but bought a Tatula Elite. Im wondering if you have to worry about the line coiling if you use braid?
Well done although I wouldn‘t say that coiling line is a major factor (maybe with really thick lines) as it will be straightened by the weight of the lure during the cast. I never noticed coils when casting although they occurred sometimes as soon as the bait hitted the water (especially with Fluorocarbon which is a sign to change immediately).
Just got a Steez A2 and on my first cast with it, I noticed a knocking sound, so basically towards about the middle of the cast. I heard two knocks like a click click so I’m returning mine because I believe it is defective. Anybody else have issues like this
Even though Shimano and Daiwa are the best companies doesn't mean once in a blue moon you'll get a lemon. It's few and far between but it's happened to me on a few occasions.
Love my Tatula SV103 a lot. I got mine for an insane discount and for what I payed it's insanely refined. Makes me wonder how good the Zillion and Steez are.
@@Kjm420 been waiting 5 months to find out, winter in Canada gave it an off season lol. Were just coming back into good weather now. Unfortunately I can't say first hand at the water. But it sure tossed some weights without problems in my backyard into the snow
Magnetic brakes really are superior. I just hate the constant tension, always feels like I could get 10 more feet out of it, when I really can't. The centrifugal brakes on my Curado's are a nightmare when its windy out though. I really need to pick up another Daiwa for chatterbaits and stuff that catch the wind, I had a Fuego CT and sold it because it felt too big to palm. The Zillions all look like that too, but maybe a smaller Tatula or something.
I took my annual bass trip to the headwaters last week and I was not getting much distance out of my Tatula reels. I hadn’t used them for several months. My experienced guide adjusted brakes etc. which didn’t seem to make much difference. Was throwing 2 ounce spinner baits and he and I were lucky to get 30 yards. Should these reels be greased regularly? I’m using fairly stiff Dobyns rods. Using the same rods with Lews Hypermag and one with a 13 Fishing they got 50 yards with little effort. Anything you recommend to get a bit more distance out of my Diawas will be appreciated! Thanks!
I have the 2 zillions that I use to throw deep diving crankbaits. I had to move the zero adjustment because I kept getting "professional overruns" even with the cast control set at 20. Am I doing something wrong?
I adjusted the spool tensioner on Zillion during very windy day and now the reel backlashes a bit more than it did out of the factory. There’s no play in the spool so I must be close to the factory setting but now I’m paranoid that I somehow screwed up the reel’s mojo.
Every sv tw I have (approximately 10) came with a good bit of play in the spool. They all cast very well though so I haven't seen a reason to mess with it.
Zero adjuster certainly isn't always perfect from the factory, they don't have engineers in lab coats setting up these reels. My Tat elite came locked down to the point that the spool wouldn't move. Zillion was better but always check em and setup like Ben showed.
I own both Shimano and Daiwa. Shimano's SVS with MGL III spools will give you more distance but less control, whereas Daiwa's Zillion SV TW with Boost Spool, you'll get a more controlled cast but a little less distance. That's my experience and I've been using bait casters for 50yrs.
The "zero adjuster" is more of a marketing gimmick than anything else. You can still adjust it by the weight of the lure drop or the spool side to side movement.... just like any other spool tention adjustment knobs.
The Zero Adjuster is definitely a marketing ploy. Why wouldn't Daiwa just leave it off if that was the case. With my 21' Zillion, I actually had to tighten the Zero Adjuster and run my brakes on 4 and it's perfectly dialed in. I've yet to have any consequential backlash at all with plenty of casting distance.
Why is the line guide on the TW system always loose I just got a Zillion SV TW and the line guide has a lot of play feels like there’s something wrong with it.
I love the old intro. Glad to see it.
Throwback 👍🍻
I agree. I miss it.
I just ordered the Zillion SV TW from Japan, and this video was very helpful for a newbie who has limited knowledge with a baitcaster. Thank you.

That’s how Daiwa reels are, they sucks on distance.. too much braking
Hi there, I just been gifted a pair of Daiwa BX 160 Oldies 😊, trying to cleaning them up, hopefully still working whiss me luck 😊
This system casts itself ❤. I have zillion sv tw; Steez limited sv tw, Steez CT SV TW, Gekkabijin air tw. I sold all my Shimano reels. Daiwa rules 😂😂

The Tatula and Zillion are pretty comfortable. Can't speak for the Steez yet.
The tatula SV TW 103 feels really good in hand. I have the fuego as well and it is a little bigger in comparison.
Been fishing a tatula for a month now, first t wing reel. Line is stacking up on the left, ill probably go back to shimano because of that
that’s bc you put it on wrong. it’s not the reel
Great job sir. Learned some new stuff!!

I appreciate you but you are not close to the Gulf of Mexico, PINS or Mustang Island. I do love all of my Tatula reels
started with shimanos, then went to magforce v, went back to svs infinity and dc, shimano suck, now using daiwa baitcasters exclusively
Bro wtf
Yea old intro. The new one is annoying af imo. Like watching a googan video.
I grabbed a bunch of Tats, but they were so muddy I gave up and got rid of them...
I love my Daiwa but i dont like using the T Wing unless its straight fluoro or braid. The T Wing is kNot (pun) friendly.
Same
😂😂😂 amateur hour here blaming t wing cause you guys can’t cast !!! Typical response it’s the t wings 🪽 fault
Same. I just use straight Floro or Mono on my Zillion.
Why is the line guide on the TW system always loose
I just got a Zillion SV TW and the line guide has a lot of play feels like there’s something wrong with it.
I have to disagree with you on the zero adjustors..You can adjust the adjustor for the weight of the bait, then use the brakes to fine tune it..
If that’s working for you then awesome 👍🍻
Great video
