Also got this reel. The spool spins very tightly! With a wiggle, the finger makes only a couple of turns and stops. I have a lot of bfs reels and this is the first time I see it.
Hey there! Sorry I can’t write your user name as I don’t have Russian, I think?, font. Yes, you are correct in that the spool does not want to free spin at all. I had originally thought that the reel was heavily overbraked due to this phenomenon but upon casting I am finding that it is not quite the case. It’s odd because we saw this with the kastking ve2, kestrel and kestrel elite reels and now we’re seeing this again with the silver feather. It’s not too surprising as DMK is the manufacturer that produces these reels for these brands. The difference that I am experiencing though is that this reel is not nearly as overbraked as the other kk reels. I do need more time testing the reel though as I have found that it can be a bit overbraked in some situations and I want to explore that a bit more. To give you a bit of respite, the reel casts phenomenally and the braking system really does perform and feel like what they did on the daiwa SS air tw. Extremely easy casting with amazing distance. Hope you’ll stick around to watch the teardown(it’s a doozy lol..) and the casting impressions(need to film a bit more of this I think). Cheers my friend!

@upstreamer1661 hey upstreamer! I would say that this is easier at casting than an original Acura with roro bearings. In the low lure weight range 0.5-2g it will outcast the rorod acura with ease. In the mid to upper range 2-10g it will be a lot closer in performance. This reel will backlash a lot less than the Acura though. It is an extremely convenient reel to cast and makes me want to call it a baby SS air tw. I still have some reservations about the reel but if it were cheaper I would recommend this reel without any hesitation. The casting performance has really surprised me. I hope that helps! Purelure is not a bad brand. Once a friend of mine bought a rod from the brand, the Sharpen 7'6 model. It's a very good, light weight and budget friendly rod,. Even i am surprised with the rod performance. But for reel, i didn't have any experience yet.

I’ve actually been looking at this reel since I heard about it a month ago. Good job being the first to do a video on it. That proves you’re for sure on the forefront of what’s currently going on in BFS. I couldn’t find any reviews on this reel until yours. I’m curious to know if this new Purelure Silver Feather will cast 1/2 gram lures, and how far. Also curious as to what the upper end of the lure weight spectrum is??
Hey Kenneth! I appreciate the kind words! I’m glad I picked up the reel even though I was really skeptical of it due to the fact that it’s made by DMK. That being said, I’m happy to report that the casting performance is quite good and they seem to have found a good balance between performance and ease of use. I will also report happily that the reel is quite capable of casting 0.5g with ease. I need to put the reel on my Tenryu rod as that is the rod I typically use for benchmarking reels, I had the reel on a 4.9UL purelure rod, so a very similar rod but not the same. Anywho, I somewhat top out my lures at the 7.38g mark which is did well. Unfortunately, my benchmark rod tops out at 8g and so I tend to not cast over that. I’m sure it will happily do 10g though. I plan on making this a long term tester reel as I’ve been very impressed with how it was doing on the purelure rod and am excited to see how it does on the Tenryu benchmark rod. yay, btw my box didn't have that sticker,,, I bet they never even had the XG or an extremely low stock. Everyone says "I wanted the XG but they didn't have it". They even messaged me and offered a free spool of braid, I saw someone else got one but I never got my "free gift" for not getting the XG I ordered.

Cutting the extra teeth in the main gear must be giving them quality control problems… that being said I could be totally wrong on that 🤷♂️. In any case, it is a bit odd but also what about the “elite” model? I wonder if that’s supposed to be a mag framed version like the kestrel elite? Hey vand! The brakes are dynamic but they don’t move all that much. It’s hard to measure the actual travel distance but I will estimate that the ring magnet moves about 1mm or so closer to the spool under high spool rpm. The system is somewhat of an inverse magforce braking system that we see in the daiwa SS air tw and performs very similarly to it. I’ll be making this reel a long term tester because I’ve been extremely impressed with my initial casting impressions. Will get more time on the water with it before I release that but from what I’ve experienced so far it’s pretty darn amazing. Cheers my friend!

Hey su7! Hm that’s a difficult question to answer as I’m not sure what you are looking for in a reel? If you’re looking for ease of use and convenience I think the purelure wins that hands down. If you want absolute distance then I feel like the arise might have a tiny advantage in that aspect at the sacrifice of requiring “tuning” of the inductor cup on the users part. Another advantage that the arise has right now is the price and the build quality. It’s going to be a bit cheaper depending on the store you purchase from and I think overall the manufacturing practices and components are just ever so slightly better. That’s not to say that the purelure is poorly made but I do question some of the components like the star drag. Anywho, I hope that helps and cheers my friend!

Hey Patrick! The silver feather has been a bit of an interesting reel for me. When I first got it, I didn’t like it at all due to the “rough” feeling and the extremely short free spool(usually an indication of being extremely overbraked), but since then and especially compared to reels like the sembo…(🥲) I quite like the reel. It will do 1g but I have only paired it with a purelure creek dance 49UL rod. On that rod the reel really sings so it definitely needs to be paired correctly. Being a DMK reel it reminds me a lot of the kk ve2 and kestrel elite but I like this better. I think the price is a bit high though and so I think a good alternative would be the Haibo arise air(altho the adjustable rotor system can be a pain at times). There is also the new histar reel that just came out. I have that on the way so we’ll see what that is like. What do you plan on throwing ooc? Also, happy early bday!!! Cheers my friend!

I wasnt able to compare the two back to back but I will say that this reel is much easier to cast, not that the Acura is hard to cast. The way that this silver feather casts is how the valiant eagle 2 and the kestrel elite should have been imho. I will say that I do not think the reel is worth the full asking price and that I suggest waiting for a sale if you want to pick this reel up. Hope that helps and cheers my friend!

The reel feels cheaply made for $119. It's okay reel in my opinion. The free spool is not really a free spool....overly brake.... heavy lure it will bomb it out ...light 1/16 ...not going to bomb out.
Hey ich! I agree it does have parts that feel cheaply made but that’s where I eat my own words on this reel. While it feels overbraked it really isn’t which is so odd to me. It casts phenomenally well with light lures and I was able to cast 0.5g with extreme ease. Since then, my verdict on how it casts is that it’s pretty freaking amazing. Haha I hope that helps with the cliffhanger! This reel is what the valiant eagle 2 and the kestrel elite should have been basically. Imho if purelure drops the price a bit to say under $100 I would have no problems recommending this reel to anyone. My revised buyers guide would be Acura pro for $50 and under and this reel for $100 and under. That being said, it’s still at full price for $134… so at that price it’s a bit harder to recommend for me. Great reel though! My initial impressions couldn’t be more wrong 😅😅😅. Cheers my friend!

Purelure or haibo arise air ?
Hey su7! Hm that’s a difficult question to answer as I’m not sure what you are looking for in a reel? If you’re looking for ease of use and convenience I think the purelure wins that hands down. If you want absolute distance then I feel like the arise might have a tiny advantage in that aspect at the sacrifice of requiring “tuning” of the inductor cup on the users part. Another advantage that the arise has right now is the price and the build quality. It’s going to be a bit cheaper depending on the store you purchase from and I think overall the manufacturing practices and components are just ever so slightly better. That’s not to say that the purelure is poorly made but I do question some of the components like the star drag. Anywho, I hope that helps and cheers my friend!

Will the silver feather throw 1 gr? My b-day feb 19 ill make 64 and want a reel that can under $150
Hey Patrick! The silver feather has been a bit of an interesting reel for me. When I first got it, I didn’t like it at all due to the “rough” feeling and the extremely short free spool(usually an indication of being extremely overbraked), but since then and especially compared to reels like the sembo…(🥲) I quite like the reel. It will do 1g but I have only paired it with a purelure creek dance 49UL rod. On that rod the reel really sings so it definitely needs to be paired correctly. Being a DMK reel it reminds me a lot of the kk ve2 and kestrel elite but I like this better. I think the price is a bit high though and so I think a good alternative would be the Haibo arise air(altho the adjustable rotor system can be a pain at times). There is also the new histar reel that just came out. I have that on the way so we’ll see what that is like. What do you plan on throwing ooc? Also, happy early bday!!! Cheers my friend!

@patrickhartman6818 hey Patrick! I think the braking profiles between the two are different. I wasnt able to compare the two back to back but I will say that this reel is much easier to cast, not that the Acura is hard to cast. The way that this silver feather casts is how the valiant eagle 2 and the kestrel elite should have been imho. I will say that I do not think the reel is worth the full asking price and that I suggest waiting for a sale if you want to pick this reel up. Hope that helps and cheers my friend!

The reel feels cheaply made for $119.
It's okay reel in my opinion. The free spool is not really a free spool....overly brake.... heavy lure it will bomb it out ...light 1/16 ...not going to bomb out.

Hey ich! I agree it does have parts that feel cheaply made but that’s where I eat my own words on this reel. While it feels overbraked it really isn’t which is so odd to me. It casts phenomenally well with light lures and I was able to cast 0.5g with extreme ease. While the construction doesn’t feel amazing the saving grace of this reel is that it is amazing casting reel. Stay tuned for the casting impressions and teardown! Cheers my friend!

Hey Lee! Haha fair enough! It is a DMK reel so it may end up falling apart on me at any given moment but I plan on making this a long term tester to see how it fares. @@leepao6302 hey Lee! Yea I agree with you on that. Once you get to around 140g and lower you don’t really feel a noticeable improvement and the reels start to feel a bit “cheap”. It’s part of the reason why I want to make this a long term reviewer. It has some really odd quirks that I want to really feel out and understand. It’s definitely not a reel for everyone I think. Hey oxyuran! Hahaha my apologies! I wanted to make sure to let people know that my initial impressions were and are just that. Since then, my verdict on how it casts is that it’s pretty freaking amazing. Haha I hope that helps with the cliffhanger! This reel is what the valiant eagle 2 and the kestrel elite should have been basically. Imho if purelure drops the price a bit to say under $100 I would have no problems recommending this reel to anyone. My revised buyers guide would be Acura pro for $50 and under and this reel for $100 and under. That being said, it’s still at full price for $134… so at that price it’s a bit harder to recommend for me. Great reel though! My initial impressions couldn’t be more wrong 😅😅😅. Cheers my friend!
