My mower arrived and it looked just like yours except sitting next to the Verticutter cartridge box stacked on top of the mower box was a separate smaller box which I assume is the turf rake box. You have a turf rake and it wasn't sitting on top of the mower stack you received so I'm thinking you probably got a separate shipment and probably have both optional cartridges... If you do have both, I can't wait to see how the scarafier works. I've seen it used on the cool season grasses they have in England but I haven't seen it used on the warm season Bermuda. My Zorro Zoysia cut at 1.25 inches has the leaf length and structure of a cool season grass although it is definitely a warm season grass. I'll wait and see how the verticutter thins it out and solves the float problem but I might need to investigate the scarifier or even the dethatcher.

Hey Jimmy, at first i was worried about that. Hopefully it came out in video but mostly all the clipping went into the catcher and not on top of it. When thinking about it, the fins are more so to throw the clippings in a more central area in the basket vs clipping just going in. The classic cal trimmer issue was that the grass shield was too short and did not come forward enough which is where the extender accessory made such a difference. It’s something i can mention in future video and advise if i do see and major issues or complaints.

I appreciate the great support and kind words. Yes the new mower will take a little getting use to. I would say that you may like the way the Mclane maneuvers more then the catalyst but the catalyst has so many other great things that the Mclane could never do. I think you maybe to find them fairly soon but have a feeling will ask top dollar almost making it a better deal to go with new. That will prob be the case for a little while. 👍🏻

I believe that i will work. The reason i prefer to feather is so the reel is spinning at a higher RPM but you have the ability to go slow without compromising the reel speed. With that said the reel spinning at Lower rpm still does a great job cutting the grass. 👍🏻

If it’s a Honda gx it should be capped at 3500 RPM. Anything higher can cause damage. I normally mow at about 3000-3300 RPM. I appreciate the support and welcome to the channel. 👍🏻

I think either mower will perform well. If the cartridge system is not as important i can see going either way and it may just be a preference thing or decided by price. Best thing is that you have options 👍🏻

It could be from the driveshaft cover. There is a potential fix that i will talk about in my next video.

A rotary mower maybe a better option as you don’t see too many benefits to a reel mower at those Heights. If you even do go with it, a 5 blade option may also be a better choice.

It’s a great mower. The 20 inch maybe a good option for as i know you wanted something that can handle and easier to move around

I bought to from triangle reel mowers. The Owner is Scott. You can still have mowers shipped to California. The rule is that as long as the motor born on date is prior to 2024 it can be sold. This is why a lot of manufactures purchased a lot of motors last year to stock up. Once these motors are gone then it will be very difficult. Hope this helps. Trianglereelmowers.com

I can definitely see where the 20inch maybe easier to maneuver. You’re kinda in that borderline area where a 25 or 20 is appropriate. If you decide to go with the 20inch I’m sure you wouldn’t be dissapointed and at the same time save some money. 👍🏻

That is definitely a huge advantage to the cartridge System. I also also debating on purchasing a 2nd reel. This was i can use one to scalp and have a fresh one there after. Also if i needed to have it grounded i wont have any downtime since ill have a second reel while its being serviced. Thanks for the comment and appreciate the support 👍🏻

Yes you can. There is a catch though. The rule is that a mower can be sold or ship to California in 2024 as long as the motors born on date is prior to 2024. Manufactures knew this which is why it was so difficult to get Honda and Briggs motors last year since manufactures wanted to stock up on these. Once these motors are gone that’s it. I would say that if you don’t buy a mower in the near future it will be almost impossible to purchase a new gas powered mower. My feeling is that it will be easier to purchase from A dealer outside of California and have it shipped vs purchasing from a dealer in California. I have heard from quite a few people say that there local dealer in California say that can’t order it. Hope this helps 👍🏻

No i wouldn’t say it has gotten too much better but i haven’t done too much in my front lawn as of late. I have a couple of plans for next season that will hopefully sort everything out. Remind me, what question in regards to the catalyst ?

I am also curious about California Trimmer now that they have moved to the Seattle area., Do they still actually manufacture anything or have they outsourced it to another company. I know that the Allet and the Cobra Fortis users like the bolt on rake and I wonder what it would do to my fine-bladed Zoysia that I cut at 1.25 inches.

@@dwaynesworldlawn i think the only plastic part in the catalyst are the piece that holds secures the cartridges and the rubber belt. Swardsman has plastic gears. 🤦🏻‍♂️. How heavy is the 25? The 20” feels well over 200 lbs

California is one of those states. For us here in California it’s based on the born on date of the engine. As long as it was manufacture before 2024 it’s good to go. This is one of the reasons why manufactures were buying up so many motors from Briggs and Honda so they can stockpile them to allow for sale into 2024. The day will come where they run out and only electric will be allowed to be sold. 👍🏻

If you have the plastic grass catcher you may want to look at the grass topper from reel rollers. I can tell you out of the 3 i would say the Mclane does the better job of catching clippings. From there the trucut and then the cal trimmer. The cal trimmer has recently added a grass shield extended which would put in more in line with the performance of the Mclane. Hope this helps
