Thanks for the info. I'm not a reel mower myself, but I have the multi-head Ego and have been contemplating trying rotary scissors, and now I know how to do it, thanks to you, if I ever pull the trigger.
So, it's basically a "Round" Hedge Trimmer! I've got the Stihl hedge trimmer attachment for my string trimmer, and I've used it several times in dense ground cover an it worked great! I will have to look into these! Great video!
I don't Reel mow and I cut my PRG and KBG at 2.5" and I would definitely buy these again. It doesn't beat up on tree and are great for trimming edges. There is a learning curve, but my edges are awesome!
It dioes a great job. I often recommend using the rotary before the mow that way when mowing it will mulch the clipping or bag them. I appreciate the support and keep those edges looking sharp.
I just ordered a unit. I plan on using them to trim the edge of my zoysia where it meets my mulch beds. Using a string trimmer, much of the hardwood mulch gets thrown onto the lawn. It's just that much more work to rake or blow it back into the mulch bed. I the rotary scissors won't throw material around like a string trimmer. I guess I will have to buy a new ego as my current one has the carbon shaft and per your comments, will not be compatible. Ouch!
That’s very true. One thing you may want to do is use your rotary scissors on the perimeter and then mow as the power rotary scissor although won’t throw your mulch it will leaving clipping behind. If you mow after it will mulch those clipping or you can use a low speed setting on the blower. Thanks for the comment 👍🏻
Nice vid Dwayne. I have too much concrete, brick n tough areas to have this unit. Have u tried replacing those grease ports w grease zirts? Just trying to help a brother out
No i have tried replacing them to zerk. To be honest there are not difficult to grease. I can see your point when it’s comes to a lot of tough area. Even though the rotary scissors are a great tool there maybe times a trimmer is a better option based on application. I appreciate the comment and the support 👍🏻
Loved the video, have some PRS on my way. My question is: I have the multi head ego version but with a carbon fiber shaft with the power load option. When you said the carbon fiber doest work because you need the multi head ego machine, mine is both hahaha i have multihead attachment version with the carbon fiber shaft would that work to convert? Can I put my PRS on a carbon fiber shaft attached to a multi attachment ego trimmer version? hope that makes sense. Appreciate your review on them
I have the carbon fiber unit like you-not the multi attachment system. Ego sells a straight shaft aluminum tubed trimmer and wonder if that would work-would you know? I suspect it has the same wire drive system as the carbon shaft unit as it is folded in a shorter box for shipment. I was hoping it would work as the entire aluminum trimmer unit is only $20 more than the multi tool attachment piece, however I will need to purchase both parts.
I believe the aluminum tube and the carbon fiber tube have pretty much the same design with the exception of one being carbon fiber. If you look at them they have the same bracket towards the center that allow the shaft to bend in half. I could be wrong on this but i am sure if there are any egos that are not multihead that will work. Thank you for the question and the comment 👍🏻
I believe the ryobi string trimmer is a 40 volt and a lot of people use it with the rotary s scissor. One thing to keep in mind also is the Amp hour. I use both 2.5 amp hours and 5.0 amp hour with the ego 56 v and i definitely can tell a difference with the 5.0 amp hour battery. Not that the 2.5 amp won’t work, it’s just that the 5.0 feel like it has more torque and obviously last longer. I appreciate the comment and the support 👍🏻
@@dwaynesworldlawn thanks for your reply, I appreciate it. I have a 25cc gas powered Ryobi trimmer currently and it seems to struggle with consistent power and I can’t get it to cut at all without stopping/jamming up. I’m wondering if the 25cc just isn’t enough which is prompting me to seek other options. What do you think?
I would say they are built tought. Just like with any other garden tool that gets abused. They may require additional sharpening when cutting thicker items.
Could this be used to maintain an entire boulevard strip? I can’t get my reel mower on the boulevard strip and want to do the lowest cut possible with these….
Yes you can. It may take some practice to get the hoc consistency across the entire area you want to cut. I did a test patch on the side of my drive way this last fall and used these to maintain quite often because it was a small area that i couldn’t really get a mower in the way i would have liked too. Take a look at some of my overseeded PGR videos on my Chanel and you can see what i mean. Thanks for the comment and the question!!! 👍🏻
I do not have that model of trimmer but would imagine it would work as long as the trimmer has a shaft that controls the head. Some models of egos are a drive by wire design and will not work. If it is a shafted trimmer the rotary scissors do come with multiple adapter to fit most trimmers. You may want to reach out to Terre to make sure. 👍🏻
@chrissobczyk5539 Not yet. It’s very simple to do though: apply backlapping compound to the blades and then run them for a while, clean up and good to go!!! I’ll for sure put it on video when i do 👍🏻

Sounds great and glad it helped 👍🏻
I’ve got the Allett sterling. It’s brilliant. Uses the ego battery and it’s cartridge mover for full lawn maintenance.
Ego and allet make a great pair!!

Thank you for your support. They can be pricey but worth the money in my opinion. 👍🏻

Dwayne, great review, learned allot and will use this info towards my scissors, thanks Don.
Appreciate the kind words Don!!! Thank you for the support. 👍🏻
Great information thanks for the video. I just got my rotary scissors a couple of days ago.
Nice!!! They are great 👍🏻
Great vid Dwayne! Ive been eye balling these hard for awhile now, but still havent pulled the trigger due to cost and current equpiment
I get it. There are nice but it’s a big money pill to swallow. 👍🏻
Considering all the brown patches you need to apply some water management techniques and or add some nutrients to your ultra short cut lawns soil.
Appreciate the suggestion. 👍🏻

Lol i have brand new California Trimmer i haven't even used. Loving my old fashion push reel mower great exercise and cut. 🤷🤦
Nothing wrong with that. Just don’t mow any large yards with a push mower otherwise it won’t be fun. Lol

I’m looking at attaching the power rotary scissors to EGO BCX4500 commercial brush cutter
That should work. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

As long as the ego model has a shaft vs a drive by wire system it will be good to go 👍🏻

I think for gas powered the manufacture recommends 30cc or more. Hope this helps. 👍🏻
Makita has their own rotary scissors for 40v XGT powerhead. Equivalent to 35cc gas.
@@ecp4500 oh i haven’t seen those. I am going to have to look them up. Good stuff!!!!
Are these rotary trimmers up to going through thickets with lots of brambles and thin saplings, like a proper scissor mower?
I would say they are built tought. Just like with any other garden tool that gets abused. They may require additional sharpening when cutting thicker items.

Lol. The question of the day. I have not just yet but i will be picking one up. 👍🏻
Have you tried sharpening the blades on your rotary scissors yet?

Nice!!!
OMG 20 min for 30 seconds of info.
Thanks for the feedback 👍🏻
