      Hi there! Yes, you’ll definitely want a wider lens, which can be tough for a cropped sensor on the R7. I’d actually recommend you wait a bit, Sigma will release their 10-18mm f2.8 for RF mounts this year (specifically designed for aps-c). And Tamron is also releasing their 11-20mm f2.8 soon. If you need something now… you could look at the RF 14-35mm, which is an excellent lens - I have a couple videos on it. Or also the just released Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 - not as wide, but it might be wide enough for your purpose. And it’s a lot cheaper! Hope this helps :-)

    Thanks for this video. Can you adjust the panning for tension? I've bought some travel video heads where you can only adjust up and down and the panning has no tension (just a lock) to smooth out movements.

    • @coppensbram
      @coppensbram 23 дня назад

      Hi! Nah, it’s only like a lock/unlock type of mechanism. There’s only a fluid pressure system for the up and down movement. I believe all of these smaller, lighter tripods only have it like that. If you want control over panning tension you’ll need a larger fluid head, and a heavier duty tripod. Smallrig has a nice one: AD100 Freeblazer. And I think Ulanzi also launched one recently… might be worth a shot.

    I currently have the R8 and am wanting to get a second body. I like having 2 bodies to avoid constantly changing lenses. I am undecided as to whether to get another R8 or to get the R7. • @coppensbram
      @coppensbram Месяц назад

      I’d probably opt for another R8 in your case. You’ll be able to use the same batteries etc. Although, the R7 might be a good addition for wildlife - you’ll get more reach out of your lenses. The R8 is definitely better for low light. If you could stretch your budget, you might want to take a look at the R6 mark II. That’s basically a step up from the R8! And an ideal combo 😎

    My hot take on the R7’s problems is that it mostly appeals to Pros as a backup camera, but it’s simply too much of a step down from the R5 or R6ii for those folks. I those think people forget that the R7 is supposed to be a “next steps” camera for intermediate-level hobbyists working their way up to the big guns. It does have some obvious flaws, most of the hate seems to stem from a top-down perspective.

    • @coppensbram

    I thought the L series zoom lenses didn't extend the barrel when zooming? I have an EF 17-40 L zoom and it doesn't extend like the one in the video. The glass inside the lens moves within the outer part which stays a constant size front to back.

    • @coppensbram
      @coppensbram Месяц назад

      That was the case for some of the EF lenses. But with the RF mount, canon has focused on making the lenses as compact as possible, and so they all have extending front elements. However, they just launched the RF 24-105 f2.8, which is all internal zoom. Honestly, I prefer compact lenses 😃 I don’t mind the extending!

    • @coppensbram
      @coppensbram 2 месяца назад

      Hi there! Of course 😊 When you want to photograph a group, it’s all about the aperture. You’ll need to make sure it’s narrow, something like f8 or even f11. That will make the focus pane wider, and thus, have more in focus in your shot. Also make sure you set your shutter speed quite fast. For a 35mm, maybe something like 1/150 or 1/200. It’s usually best to use a tripod too! I usually shoot group pictures in burst too. Just to make sure there’s a good one in there with everyone having their eyes open 😃 Hope this helps 😎

      I’d probably choose a wider lens for vlogging. In a couple months the Tamron 11-20 and Sigma 10-18 will release for RF. Those will be excellent for vlogs. In terms of settings, always use the 180 rule for video, so if you shoot at 24 or 25 fps, your shutter speed should be 1/50. Aperture depends on what kind of shot you want, I usually shoot wide open. I always shoot with Clog3 enabled, and have AF set to whole frame and detection to people. The 14-35 is a fantastic lens. On the R50, which is aps-c, it will give a nice standard zoom range. IQ is fantastic as well! I have a couple videos on the lens on my channel :-)

      Yes indeed - It's listed on Canon's website. However, I don't see it anywhere in the menus, only IPB is available. I don't believe the R8 has got All-i. Even the R6 mii doesn't have it :-) Hope this helps!

      Not on the R8 - I only use RF lenses on it. I did have the Sigma 18-35 connected to my R7 via the adapter though, there’s a video on my channel :-)

    Hi. Couple of questions, has the hi frame rate settings bug been fixed (where resolution gets reset) via firmware update? Also what is the best lens you recommend for portrait photography, indoors, room length is limited sadly (not sure what the min focal length would be for a full body photo). Thx!

    • @coppensbram
      @coppensbram 3 месяца назад

      Sure! No, after turning off the high frame rate, the default is still 1080p sadly 😬 but it’s only a minor gripe. For the R7 I’d recommend the Sigma 18-35 f1.8. Alternatively, take a look at the RF 16mm 2.8 for wider shots and maybe the RF 50mm 1.8 for portraits. Or even the 85mm f2. These are all quite inexpensive.

      This lens is suited for APS-C cameras only, so indeed, the field of view will be similar to 28-56mm full frame equivalent. Hope this helps!

    • @coppensbram
      @coppensbram 3 месяца назад

      Thanks for the kind words! For a photo booth, you mean you’ll be taking pictures of people at events in front of a backdrop? If so, I’d definitely consider full frame like the R8 or R6 mark II. These will work great in low light! And then try to get a fast lens for the dark environments, either one of the RF primes or an RF zoom lens if you want flexibility. I would probably opt for the RF24-70 f2.8 if you can stretch the budget. If not, maybe the RF 85mm f2 prime, or even the RF 50 f1.8. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions :-)

    Can this tripod switch to a vertical mode?

    • @coppensbram
      @coppensbram 3 месяца назад

      No it won’t - you’ll have to use an L-bracket or cage on the camera. This is usually the case for tripods with fluid heads. Hope this helps 😊

    • @Stash_Studio
      @Stash_Studio 3 месяца назад

      thank you for responding - as I thought :( The newer Ulanzi TT09 VideoGo Carbon Fiber Travel Video Tripod has this functionality as the fluid head sits on top of a ball-head but unfortunately it's significantly shorter than older models@@coppensbram

    • @coppensbram
      @coppensbram 3 месяца назад

      @Stash_Studio actually I have that one too - I did a video for Ulanzi last year when they launched it. Yes - that one will allow vertical shooting. Do you need the fluid head for vertical shots? If not, maybe better to get a “regular” head - highly recommend the Ulanzi Zero-F38. You can always switch out the center column (they sell a separate piece) and add on a fluid head when you need it. Best of both worlds :-)

    • @Stash_Studio
      @Stash_Studio 3 месяца назад

      @@coppensbram yes I tend to shoot much more vertical content. I’ve actually got the f38 with the additional fluid head in my cart on the Ulanzi website but I really wanted to avoid travelling with 2 heads/columns/ or adding an additional base-plate to the side of the rig. If only the latest model was 20cm taller 🥲

    • @coppensbram
      @coppensbram 3 месяца назад

      @Stash_Studio ahhh yeah I see. It’s always a balancing act and tough choices to make 😬 I think Ulanzi is coming out with a more heavy duty video tripod soon. Maybe that has all the features you need? But it won’t be as travel friendly probably…

    You can manually close down the shutter for changing lenses by manually initiating sensor cleaning and then turning off the camera. The shutter will stay down.

      Nice workaround 😊 however not very handy to do every time you want to switch lenses… I usually just hold the camera sensor down when changing- reducing the possibility of dirt and dust catching on.

      Thanks for the kind words! 👊 I’ve had the 15-35 f2.8 for a while as well, but ended up selling it and keeping the 14-35. For my use cases, F4 was good enough for the wide angle shots. And it’s just so nice and compact! I also have the 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 so I have most of the range covered when I need a wider aperture! One lens I’m eagerly waiting for is the rumored RF 35mm f1.4 L. Hopefully it will release next month!

    • @RWAquariumPages
      @RWAquariumPages 4 месяца назад

      @coppensbram you know, it's got me thinking at wide angle ranges if f4 vs f2.8 is really that visible on photos viewed on the phone. I am currently using the prosumer grade 16mm and 28mm for walk around and it's doing quite well for my style of shooting, but I've been eyeing the 15 35. I hope canon releases a 35mm 1.2 or 1.4, would be a nice one, but I'm not good at the 35mm range, so I just picked up a 50mm 1.2 yesterday and so far so good 1 day in, first world problems. Great video

    • @coppensbram
      @coppensbram 4 месяца назад

      @RWAquariumPages I guess it depends on how often you shoot wide, and in low light. The 15-35 is a fantastic lens though 😃 And yes, the 50 1.2 is also on my wishlist. How are you liking it?

    • @RWAquariumPages
      @RWAquariumPages 4 месяца назад

      @coppensbram honestly, I never shoot wide to be honest, that's why if I were to get one the f4 might be a better fit. I have the 85 1.2 and it's a wider version snd lighter. Nice and sharp, bokeh is nice but on web size Noone would notice the difference between the 1.8 and 1.2 to be honest, but it makes me happy so thats all that counts. 50mm for my style is used more range than wide or 85mm, but every image out of the 85mm length is magical

    • @coppensbram
      @coppensbram 4 месяца назад

      @RWAquariumPages yes in that case, I can highly recommend the 14-35. F4 is still really nice, definitely can get nice bokeh and separation if you know how to use the wider focal lengths (just get in close and create distance between subject and background). And I can’t stress enough how compact and portable the lens is 😎 For the longer focal lengths I typically use the 70-200 2.8. But you’re totally right - do you even see the difference between f1.8 and f1.2 without pixel peeping on high res monitors? 🤷🏻‍♂️ I mean sure, for extreme low light, yes, it probably makes a difference. I only have 1 prime on the RF mount at the moment, the nifty fifty 1.8. I rarely shoot at wider aperture than 2.8 anyway. However, for my A-roll shots in these RUclips videos, I’d love to have a bit more background blur. My space is extremely tight so I could use that 35mm 1.4 or 1.2 once it releases hehe!
