Really awesome video. How was your experience with both of them in low light videography, astro photography / timelapse ?
Thank you for the kind words 👊 They both have the same sensor, so it’s pretty much even for low light performance. However, since the R8 doesn’t have IBIS, you might need to crank up the shutter speed a bit more in low light photography. But overall I’d say it’s the same :-)
Nice video! Keep it up man. I hope your channel grows!
Thanks for the kind words 👊
Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial!!!! It helped me a lot to start learning about my new Canon EOS r8. Are you, by any chance, offering an online course for a group of interested students?
You’re very welcome! 😉 Glad it was helpful. I don’t have a course at the moment, but feel free to let me know what you’d like to see - always good for more video ideas!
@@coppensbram Thank you for your reply. I will send you an email if that's ok with you. I am really impressed how informative and detailed your tutorial is.
@ninoslavrandjelovic8100 all good ;-)
After m6II with m50 I had chosen for birding R8 because FF quality of picture.
Oooh the M6 II - I also had that camera. Real nice and compact!
My bucket list item has always been a Canon, and finally, I did it. Not to go pro but to truly capture the moments and have fun, your video set-up has been beyond helpful and given me confidence in falling in love with my R8. Thank you
That’s awesome! Thank you so much for the kind words ☺️ I’m sure you’ll capture a ton of stunning photos and videos 😎

Haaaa yeah that’s the Apple Tax! 😂 Their pricing is crazy.
Great video! I've been thinking a lot about this recently too, especially because iPad Pros have gotten so expensive, and the 13" is extra pricy and the 11" finally has just as good of a display as the big one. I tried out typing on the magic keyboards for each in an Apple Store, and the 13" one felt great and laptop-like while the 11" definitely felt a bit awkwardly small, but I mostly use my iPad as an iPad without the keyboard, and my MacBook Pro when I need a keyboard, so I think like you I'd probably appreciate just having a slightly more portable device most of the time like you.
Yes indeed! It’s really hard to justify the 13” when you have a MacBook 😅 And somehow, I always feel like I want to get more work done on the 13”, and then run into the limitations of iPadOS. On the other hand, the thin and light form factor of the 13” make it much better than previous models. That screen! 😎 I’ve returned the 13” now, but I already miss it haha.
@ yeah holding it at Apple it was the first time where I was very tempted by the extra screen real estate since it’s so crazy thin and light!
You put the info together nicely!Thank you! :D
You’re very welcome, glad you liked it! 👊
best video on r8 menu very well explain love from india thanks from bottom of heart👌
You’re very welcome! Glad it was helpful 😃
Thanks for this wonderful video. If i want it for street photography and portrait, like 80% in the daytime and 20% night time. Which do you recommend r7 or r8 and which lenses?
Glad you like the video! 😎 Honestly, I'd just go with the full frame sensor of the R8. It's better in every aspect compared to the aps-c on the R7. I think it's just more versatile, especially for your use case. Full frame will work better for wide angle street photography. Just get a spare battery and you'll be set! On the other hand, if you can bump up your budget a bit, the R6 II is the perfect all-round camera, which has all of the advantages of both the R7 and R8, plus some other stuff! In terms of lenses, you can't go wrong with any of the RF glass. For street and portrait, I'd probably get something wide, and something long. I love zoom lenses, so I'd say the RF 14-35 or 15-35 for your wide to regular shots, and the RF 70-200 for portraits. Alternatively, you might get a standard zoom range like the RF 24-105 or 24-70. Hope this helps!
@@coppensbram thanks a lot
Watching this before I buy. 🙂
I have the Canon R8, I would like to record at 120fps in 4k but it only reaches 60fps. Do you know if they will open that menu in time? Thanks friend
Hi! Unfortunately no. It’s even not on the more expensive R6 II. For 4k 120 you need the R5 or R5 II, but that’s a lot more expensive! I do understand why you’d want 120fps though. Here’s the trick I use: record at 4k 60fps, and then in Final Cut Pro slow down the footage 50% with “Smooth Slo-Mo”, which uses AI. Here’s a link: support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/final-cut-pro/ver40b00150/mac
If I wanna shoot a video of a whole body of a person with background blurred, which prime les would you recommend for Cannon R7??
Hi there! It depends on the distance you have from the subject. Assuming you mean in a room inside, you’re better off with the wider lenses, like the sigma 16mm, or the wide zooms 10-18 or 11-20. If you’re outside or have more space, you have a bit more flexibility 😊 Hope this helps!
Hi! So the f38 baseplate can attach to arca Swiss stuff. How about arca Swiss baseplates? Do they attach to the F38 Tripod? Thank you
Hi 👋 No, unfortunately that won’t work… you’ll need a F38 base plate on the camera. Ulanzi does have other tripods that work with Arca Swiss though! Take a look at the Zero-Y (my favorite) or TT-09 (video tripod).
@@coppensbram unfortunately I ordered the f38 tripod before checking 😔. So I won't be able to do vertical pano photos with my camera as the L bracket is arca I think... 🤔
Ahhh ok… But maybe you could just get an additional base plate f38, and attach that to your L-bracket and just leave it on?
@@coppensbram I guess that's what I am going to do 😀. I just say the tripod looks really cool and lightweight. Looking forward to bringing it with me toJapan and Bali!
@jd5787 yes it’s pretty awesome - I use it all the time 😎 you’ll definitely be happy with it!
I have the display set to auto rotate for PC and camera, but it doesn’t rotate to portrait from landscape. Any ideas?
That's strange, it should work! How are you transferring to PC? Into an app (eg. Lightroom) directly or first into folders on your disk?
Thanks Bram for your guidance !
You’re very welcome! Let me know if you have any questions 😀
I am team APSC and I like using 50mm F1.8 when is dark and I have to move myself
Definitely a nice lens for low light! 😎
I’m an architectural photographer and recently bought the Canon R8 with a 16mm RF lens. I’m planning to do close-up detailing shots and am considering adding either the RF 50mm or RF 35mm to my kit. Which would you recommend?
50mm will give you more reach, however, the 35mm (assuming you mean the 1.8 version) has macro capabilities - so you’ll be able to go closer to your subject quite a bit. In your case, I’d go with the 35! Hope this helps! 😎
Great video thank you Brother !!
You’re very welcome 👊 😎
Yes one remark/questing: you are the first one that advices to shoot at cRAW instead of RAW... Iam confused What to do? tnx
Actually, many people use CRAW instead of RAW. It’s basically just a compressed format of RAW. So it’s keeping all the benefits (quality, editable in post), but takes up much less space (smaller file size) on the SD card. Hope this helps!
Nice job Bram! Keep up the good work. ( After using the 10D and 7D, recently bought the R8 ... in meamtime I missed the digital transformation to system cameras, but I'll be back ;-)
That’s a good upgrade to mirrorless! 😎 thanks for the kind words 👊
Bram, the videos are wonderful .. I am looking to start on the mirrorless journey and going from the standard DSLR and CANON 50D (circa 2009) and looking at the R8 your videos are helping me narrow down my search and being a photographer of nature and outdoors - need a basic camera that will give fulfill my current photographic needs. I have a few Canon EF lenses but have always loved the Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM and will get something similar for the new camera. Again, your videos are very helpful Thank you! Bill G
Thanks so much for the nice words, Bill! 👊 The R8 is a fantastic camera, you’ll be super happy with it! Having a couple EF lenses is also a great starting point! If you want to get into the RF system, I’d probably recommend the 24-105 F4 L, quite similar to the EF 28-135 but with a constant aperture of F4. Really solid all-rounder!
I bought the r7 because it had 1/2 a stop better highlight retention DR in clog3, making it very close to fx30 in 4kFine24 and 30. But the overall I never use the r7 over my other cameras. But the r7 wins for bird video and bird photos
Yup! For birding things, the R7 is the way to go! 😎
in the beginning of the movie at 0.38 sec. tell you that the R7 has a weather resistant body. I hear and read several times that the R7 does not have a weather-resistant body. What's going on? is it yes or no?
From Canon’s website: Water/Dust Resistance: Yes Although the camera is designed to be dustproof and moisture-proof, it cannot guarantee complete exclusion of dust, dirt, water, salt, etc. from entry. To ensure the camera’s dustproof and moisture-proof performance, tightly close opening/closing parts such as terminal cover, battery compartment lid, and card slot cover. Also, attach shoe cover to multi-accessory shoe. When using a conventional accessory equipped with a dustproof, moisture-proof adapter, multi-accessory shoe adapter AD-E1 is required.
Regarding the EOS R7, what is the best noise reduction software?
I just use Lightroom. The new AI noise removal is awesome! 😎
My R7 is a dog. I upgraded to firmware 1.5.0 out of the box and every day I discover a new glitch. Custom settings unset themselves. I assigned AF Start to the AE Lock button. Out of nowhere it stopped working (verified it was still assigned in the menu). Unmounting and remounting the lens (EF 100-400 4.5-5.6 L V1 on EF-R adapter) got it going again. Today I had card 1 out to download shots to computer and after returning it to the camera it wouldn't read images on the screen ("No Image"). Removed card 2 and suddenly card 1 started reading again. Returned card 2 to camera and card 1 decided to start reading. Bottom line is I'm losing confidence in the stability of this camera. Image-wise it's just "okay" with a somewhat noisy sensor, typical for an APS-C I suppose. But if the glitching continues I may pack it up and send it to KEH and just write it off as a loss. It's still well within Canon's 1 year warranty but I don't know what they would do if I sent it to them, it would probably check out fine. The glitches are ghost like and come and go. My EOS 6D MkII (which I fortunately still have) has been solid as a rock and I'll hang on to it for the duration.
Ouch, sounds like you have a bad copy mate… I’d definitely return and ask for another!
Thank you!
You're welcome! 😉

Excelente video!!
I returned Canon RF 24-105 because the picture quality was not up to the mark. However, the prime lens's RF 50mm picture and video quality were superb.
Strange, my 24-105 f4 quality is much better than the 50mm f1.8. And definitely better for video. Unless you’re talking about the RF 50mm 1.2?
@@coppensbram I have RF 50MM 1.8
which is better for bird n wildlife photography
Definitely the R7, will give you much more reach with the aps-c sensor and a higher megapixel count - so you can crop in more in post! Hope this helps 😎
Hello my friend, can you tell me if there is no zebra in the menu on the R8, I have the latest firmware version, I don't understand how I need to turn it on, can you tell me? Please
Hi there! First, you need to turn on the zebras in the menu (red menu, tab 7). Note this will only work in video mode. I explain it in the video around 22:10. Hope this helps! 😎
@@coppensbram Ooooh, please forgive me, I see that in the video only, I thought that it was also in the photo, but no))) Thank you for your reply.
@blackdracula8196 no problem! Glad I could help you 😃
@@coppensbram can you tell me where the focus sensitivity (settings) for the photo is? I know where it is located on RP, but it was moved to R8 and I can't find it now
@blackdracula8196 sure - it’s in the AF menu (pink), on tab 1 and 2. I explain it in the video around 26:30 😀
For social events like weddings, which one is better for photos? It would be a good idea to have an R8 as the main one and a secondary R7, or an R8 as the main one and a RP as the secondary one. Thanks in advance!
For weddings or other professional work, I’d go with the R7 instead of the R8 because of the dual SD card slots and longer battery life. However… I’d actually recommend you to go for the R6 mark II instead. That is the one to invest in for pro work!
@@coppensbram Thank You! Update I found an incredible deal and purchased the R8. The idea of needing the R8 was because in events the R7 fell a little short in ISO since at ISO 3200 at night it lost a lot of detail. Now, I don't know if I did the right thing by buying the R8 and if I should use it as the main one taking into account that it doesn't have the double slot, although so far I have never had a memory fail and at the beginning when I bought it it only used one slot.
@victorchay12 ahhh I see. In your case the R8 will do just fine! It will definitely be better for low light than the R7! Just get a couple additional batteries and you’ll be set! 😎 Same here - no card fails yet 🤞
Super underrated channel. Although, I don't think the R8 can stand against the R6II.
Indeed it can’t! But…. Still a very capable, fun camera that’s an excellent stepping stone to the big boys 😃 And if it’s just for a hobby, it’s excellent! Thanks for all your support bro 😎 OG

Hi Bram I have canon R7 and I want a lens for a tight room. I'm a teacher and I want to make an educational channel.... please recommend me alens that suits a tight room and a board.... the room is 4×4 meter.... there is a channel called " learn English with Emma " please see it and recommend me alens that gives me the same style.
Hi there! Yes, you’ll definitely want a wider lens, which can be tough for a cropped sensor on the R7. I’d actually recommend you wait a bit, Sigma will release their 10-18mm f2.8 for RF mounts this year (specifically designed for aps-c). And Tamron is also releasing their 11-20mm f2.8 soon. If you need something now… you could look at the RF 14-35mm, which is an excellent lens - I have a couple videos on it. Or also the just released Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 - not as wide, but it might be wide enough for your purpose. And it’s a lot cheaper! Hope this helps :-)
@@coppensbram Thanks Bram

Hello! Which flashlights should I buy for Canon EOS K7?
Hi there I don’t really use a flash, but if I would be looking to buy something, I’d probably look at Godox or the new Canon EL-10 :-)
@@coppensbram Thank You!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@Internat_11mektep welcome!
Thanks for this video. Can you adjust the panning for tension? I've bought some travel video heads where you can only adjust up and down and the panning has no tension (just a lock) to smooth out movements.
Hi! Nah, it’s only like a lock/unlock type of mechanism. There’s only a fluid pressure system for the up and down movement. I believe all of these smaller, lighter tripods only have it like that. If you want control over panning tension you’ll need a larger fluid head, and a heavier duty tripod. Smallrig has a nice one: AD100 Freeblazer. And I think Ulanzi also launched one recently… might be worth a shot.
@@coppensbram Thanks man, appreciate the info :)
Mounting holes for magic arms, lights, etc. I love smallrig !! Also the VT20 ( which i have) is a great minipod in "big" tripod form. Serves / pays big dividens for me
Very helpful video. Thank you!
You're welcome! 😎
Nice! I'm currently using arca swiss lever receivers in the studio, and plain arca swiss on my smaller gear. Buying native F38 tripods might make it worth switching, although I like what I have lol.
Yes it’s difficult to change once you’re already using a system! 😊 Arca Swiss is probably the most versatile as it’s used in so ,any pieces of gear. I’ve seen Falcam is coming out with a tripod that works with both F38 and Arca Swiss. I think it’s called the “tree root” tripod. Maybe that’s the future!
Excellent! 3 shutter modes: mechanical at 15fps, 1st curtain, electronic at 30fps. Rolling shutter problem at 30fps, need to turn auto level off in order to use 1st curtain, mechanical is loud for wildlife up close. 3 budget RF lenses for wildlife: RF 100-400, RF 600 F/11, RF 800 F/11.
I currently have the R8 and am wanting to get a second body. I like having 2 bodies to avoid constantly changing lenses. I am undecided as to whether to get another R8 or to get the R7. The pricing is similar. I don't use video much. My photography ranges from sport, concerts/shows (low light), wildlife, family. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
I’d probably opt for another R8 in your case. You’ll be able to use the same batteries etc. Although, the R7 might be a good addition for wildlife - you’ll get more reach out of your lenses. The R8 is definitely better for low light. If you could stretch your budget, you might want to take a look at the R6 mark II. That’s basically a step up from the R8! And an ideal combo 😎
@@coppensbram Thank you so much for your advise - the R8 it is. Sadly the R6 mark ii is a bit out of my budget. Much appreciated.
@@kimhofmann7040 you’re very welcome :-) the R8 is an awesome little camera!
Great video 🎉 just bought the 24-105 and I have an R7 & R6 to test it on 😊
I’m absolutely sure you’ll love it!
and what about the R7 + a speedbooster ? 😅
Good point! However… that won’t work with RF lenses though. But still a valid solution if you’ve got EF glass!
