    Just got one. Here is my take. Lots of noise which can be addressed with topaz. Rolling shutter so u can’t use ES for wildlife. Shutter shock in MS causes soft photos. Small buffer. The work around is to use first curtain shutter and CRaw. The pictures are very sharp though some times in a sequence some will be soft. I use the camera mainly for wildlife as I have a big investment in EF glass. I use a Fuji for landscapes so I’ll be keeping the R7 now that I have figured the work around to the problems.

      YES! 1st curtain is disabled in setup until auto level is turned off.

  • @RetrieverTrainingAlone
    @RetrieverTrainingAlone 2 месяца назад

    Excellent! 3 shutter modes: mechanical at 15fps, 1st curtain, electronic at 30fps. Rolling shutter problem at 30fps, need to turn auto level off in order to use 1st curtain, mechanical is loud for wildlife up close. 3 budget RF lenses for wildlife: RF 100-400, RF 600 F/11, RF 800 F/11.

    My R7 is a dog. I upgraded to firmware 1.5.0 out of the box and every day I discover a new glitch. Custom settings unset themselves. I assigned AF Start to the AE Lock button. Out of nowhere it stopped working (verified it was still assigned in the menu). Unmounting and remounting the lens (EF 100-400 4.5-5.6 L V1 on EF-R adapter) got it going again. Today I had card 1 out to download shots to computer and after returning it to the camera it wouldn't read images on the screen ("No Image"). Removed card 2 and suddenly card 1 started reading again. Returned card 2 to camera and card 1 decided to start reading. Bottom line is I'm losing confidence in the stability of this camera. Image-wise it's just "okay" with a somewhat noisy sensor, typical for an APS-C I suppose. But if the glitching continues I may pack it up and send it to KEH and just write it off as a loss. It's still well within Canon's 1 year warranty but I don't know what they would do if I sent it to them, it would probably check out fine. The glitches are ghost like and come and go. My EOS 6D MkII (which I fortunately still have) has been solid as a rock and I'll hang on to it for the duration.

    R7 is perfect on its price point and only big flaw is Canons slow rolling shutter that some times give tearing look to photos when shooting at really long focal lenghts like i do with 800mm f11 because even a litle movemet moves you away from your subject. Most of first photos i take have litle tear when shooting 30fps or but when i get my hand steady its allright. While using mechanic shutter its all right and no tearing.
    I have both eos R6 and R7 for different situations and i love this combo.

    • @coppensbram
      @coppensbram  Год назад

      Good point… I don’t shoot at such long focal lengths, so maybe that’s why I haven’t noticed it! 🤔
      R6 and R7 is a really good combo indeed! I’m just curious if the new R8 would be a good b-cam too 😊

    My hot take on the R7’s problems is that it mostly appeals to Pros as a backup camera, but it’s simply too much of a step down from the R5 or R6ii for those folks. I those think people forget that the R7 is supposed to be a “next steps” camera for intermediate-level hobbyists working their way up to the big guns. It does have some obvious flaws, most of the hate seems to stem from a top-down perspective.

    Awesome video. I actually planned to ask you whether you don't regret not going the Fx30 route. I really consider the R7 as I am used to Canon, but most influencers are kinda making me opt for the sony, but we'll see. Your videos really high end and you deserve a lot more recognition. You have a new sub btw. Know your efforts are appreciated. Every little edit, or pop is acknowledged though, I personally prefer more smooth slider and gimbal shots. But that's your style. It's dope. Btw what do you think about the R7 with the Tokina atx-i 11-20mm f/2.8? I'd be happy if you let me know. Keep up the awesome work!

    in the beginning of the movie at 0.38 sec. tell you that the R7 has a weather resistant body. I hear and read several times that the R7 does not have a weather-resistant body. What's going on? is it yes or no?

    • @coppensbram
      @coppensbram  9 дней назад

      From Canon’s website:
      Water/Dust Resistance: Yes
      Although the camera is designed to be dustproof and moisture-proof, it cannot guarantee complete exclusion of dust, dirt, water, salt, etc. from entry. To ensure the camera’s dustproof and moisture-proof performance, tightly close opening/closing parts such as terminal cover, battery compartment lid, and card slot cover. Also, attach shoe cover to multi-accessory shoe. When using a conventional accessory equipped with a dustproof, moisture-proof adapter, multi-accessory shoe adapter AD-E1 is required.

    Why would you need high iso to shoot in low light ?
    Its a common misconception that you need to increase your iso in order to shoot in low light, you don't.
    All you need to do is to use a tripod set your camera to shutter priority set your iso to 100, and use a long exposure.
    Try using a really slow shutter speed to capture as much light as possible instead of ramping up your iso, which won't perform as well anyway. You'll need a remote wired or wireless shutter release,
    Some more modern canon and nikon cameras allow you to activvate the shutter by using your mobile phone, or you can even use the cameras self time to control the shuttet.

    • @coppensbram
      @coppensbram  Год назад +1

      Yes of course, David, that’s totally true for photography! But what if you have a subject that is moving around and you can’t use a slow shutter? Or if you don’t have a tripod handy? And also, for video, it’s another story…
      Everything really depends on what/how you shoot with your camera 😊

    The R7 body is just the perfect size, weight and ergonomics for my use. The easy toggle switch for photo and video is godsend in terms of hybrid portability. My only gripe is the image quality from the sensor. I wish Canon would put the R6/8 sensor instead and bump up the price slightly. Just my 2 cents

    • @coppensbram
      @coppensbram  Год назад

      I absolutely adore that switch too! I can’t imagine not having an easy switch between photo and video anymore… and it took Canon soooo long to add it 😬
      The R6 II is in another class indeed. I guess with the R8 out there too now, there’s no space for something in between the R7 and R6… maybe R7 mark II in a couple years?

    • @markz4467
      @markz4467 Год назад

      R7 does have brilliant features on paper, but when you really put it to rest it's quite unreliable. On the other hand, the original Canon R6 has dropped in price and although it has "only" 20 MP, it continuously takes sharper images compared to R7. R6 in combination with RF lenses produces amazing image quality, the only downside is its limitations regarding video (overheating and filming duration limitations).

  • @UTAlexS

    Hi. Couple of questions, has the hi frame rate settings bug been fixed (where resolution gets reset) via firmware update?
    Also what is the best lens you recommend for portrait photography, indoors, room length is limited sadly (not sure what the min focal length would be for a full body photo). Thx!

    • @coppensbram
      @coppensbram  4 месяца назад +1

      Sure!
      No, after turning off the high frame rate, the default is still 1080p sadly 😬 but it’s only a minor gripe.
      For the R7 I’d recommend the Sigma 18-35 f1.8. Alternatively, take a look at the RF 16mm 2.8 for wider shots and maybe the RF 50mm 1.8 for portraits. Or even the 85mm f2. These are all quite inexpensive.

  • @AviRochester

      Yup indeed. However, the rumors indicate they will release one soon. Hoping for something like the good old EF-S 17-55 f2.8! For now though, Sigma 18-35 f1.8 is the one to beat for the R7!

    • @coppensbram
      @coppensbram  11 месяцев назад

      Hi there! 👊
      If you’ve already got EF lenses, then sure, go for it, it works great. Some older EF lenses have audible noise yes, but that’s comparing it to new RF lenses with new technology.
      If you want to buy lenses though, it’s best to invest in the newer RF line. Yes, they are more expensive, but they will last for decades to come! I wouldn’t buy into an older line anymore.
      In terms of R7, you will still get all the benefits of the newer body, even if you use it with dslr lenses.

      For vloging i heard that you should turn off IBIS because that causes this jello wobling effect. Use gimbal with R7 while doing video. R7 IBIS is really good for photography though, you cant get all at this price point.
