My bucket list item has always been a Canon, and finally, I did it. Not to go pro but to truly capture the moments and have fun, your video set-up has been beyond helpful and given me confidence in falling in love with my R8. Thank you
Just bought the R8 and went through many settings videos and found yours as the most organised and engaging with systematic guidance and walkthrough to setup and understand the complex process. Thank you very much and I have subscribed 😊
Bram, the videos are wonderful .. I am looking to start on the mirrorless journey and going from the standard DSLR and CANON 50D (circa 2009) and looking at the R8 your videos are helping me narrow down my search and being a photographer of nature and outdoors - need a basic camera that will give fulfill my current photographic needs. I have a few Canon EF lenses but have always loved the Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM and will get something similar for the new camera. Again, your videos are very helpful Thank you! Bill G
Thanks so much for the nice words, Bill! 👊 The R8 is a fantastic camera, you’ll be super happy with it! Having a couple EF lenses is also a great starting point! If you want to get into the RF system, I’d probably recommend the 24-105 F4 L, quite similar to the EF 28-135 but with a constant aperture of F4. Really solid all-rounder!
Nice job Bram! Keep up the good work. ( After using the 10D and 7D, recently bought the R8 ... in meamtime I missed the digital transformation to system cameras, but I'll be back ;-)
Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial!!!! It helped me a lot to start learning about my new Canon EOS r8. Are you, by any chance, offering an online course for a group of interested students?
You’re very welcome! 😉 Glad it was helpful. I don’t have a course at the moment, but feel free to let me know what you’d like to see - always good for more video ideas!
@@coppensbram Thank you for your reply. I will send you an email if that's ok with you. I am really impressed how informative and detailed your tutorial is.
Great review albeit very fast :). Most helpful, thanks Bram. Beginner and had my R8 for @6 months. This has really helped with a number of settings; esp the customisation options. I'm not using the video (oh but hope to do some astro time-lapse) but curious as to what is a 'b-roll shoot' that you refer to when you set the C2 for video?
Thank you for the kind words! I'm super glad this video helpful to you 😃 To answer your question: "b-roll" is basically all of the footage that is not the main shot. For example in these RUclips videos, the main shot (or "a-roll") is when I'm talking into the camera. And all of the other shots, like when I show the camera screen or examples, that is called "b-roll". Hope this helps!
Sir I like your content, I would like to ask for a suggestion from you. Which camera you can recommend for a photobooth business? Thanks in advance for your response. More power to your channel!
Thanks for the kind words! For a photo booth, you mean you’ll be taking pictures of people at events in front of a backdrop? If so, I’d definitely consider full frame like the R8 or R6 mark II. These will work great in low light! And then try to get a fast lens for the dark environments, either one of the RF primes or an RF zoom lens if you want flexibility. I would probably opt for the RF24-70 f2.8 if you can stretch the budget. If not, maybe the RF 85mm f2 prime, or even the RF 50 f1.8. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions :-)
Thanks for the kind words 🙏 Oh, you’ll need to select every option on the grid separately and assign it to “OFF”. I believe it’s the last option on the list. Note that you can scroll through different screens. Let me know if that works for you! 😊
Nice customise button and custom shooting mode C1/C2 setting. I noticed that I can't assign "Register/Recall Shooting Function" on any other buttons except L-Fn button. Unfortunately, my RF24-105 and RF70-200 do not equip with such button. You have any success in setting this function to any other buttons?
Ok so I checked it. You are right! It’s only possible on the L-Fn button… not sure why it is like that, on my R6 mark II I can assign it to literally any button on the camera. Maybe it’s Canon on purpose limiting features of the R8? Or maybe it’s a bug and will be fixed in firmware update 🤷🏻♂️
Actually, many people use CRAW instead of RAW. It’s basically just a compressed format of RAW. So it’s keeping all the benefits (quality, editable in post), but takes up much less space (smaller file size) on the SD card. Hope this helps!
thank you for this video. I just recently bought a r8 with rf 35mm 1.8, my question is I hope you can teach me is that how can I take photo that all subjects are in focus?? I took a photo of my family yesterday and only one is on focus lol pls help
Hi there! Of course 😊 When you want to photograph a group, it’s all about the aperture. You’ll need to make sure it’s narrow, something like f8 or even f11. That will make the focus pane wider, and thus, have more in focus in your shot. Also make sure you set your shutter speed quite fast. For a 35mm, maybe something like 1/150 or 1/200. It’s usually best to use a tripod too! I usually shoot group pictures in burst too. Just to make sure there’s a good one in there with everyone having their eyes open 😃 Hope this helps 😎
Yes indeed - It's listed on Canon's website. However, I don't see it anywhere in the menus, only IPB is available. I don't believe the R8 has got All-i. Even the R6 mii doesn't have it :-) Hope this helps!
@@coppensbram i was actually thinking to buy this camera, mainly because the fullframe 4:2:2 10bit All-i and the low price for getting it, so thanks a lot for checking that out
well i think it depends on what kind of project its used for, i mean workflow requirements like color grading for example, or taken into consideration platform/purpose
Hello my friend, can you tell me if there is no zebra in the menu on the R8, I have the latest firmware version, I don't understand how I need to turn it on, can you tell me? Please
Hi there! First, you need to turn on the zebras in the menu (red menu, tab 7). Note this will only work in video mode. I explain it in the video around 22:10. Hope this helps! 😎
@@coppensbram can you tell me where the focus sensitivity (settings) for the photo is? I know where it is located on RP, but it was moved to R8 and I can't find it now

Спасибо за обзор, он очень подробный
I have the display set to auto rotate for PC and camera, but it doesn’t rotate to portrait from landscape. Any ideas?
That's strange, it should work! How are you transferring to PC? Into an app (eg. Lightroom) directly or first into folders on your disk?
I'd like to know if this camera is actually capable of all intra recording, as stated i think i read on canon's website ..thxs in advance
