The benefit of soleus pushups is actually not to do it in sets but to do them while sitting and not to think about them as an exercise but just a background activity. To get optimal benefits you need to do them for hours and it can easily be done since the Soleus uses a different fuel source then glycogen and you can do it for hours without getting tired at all. If you do get tired in less than an hour then you are not properly isolating the soleus pushup. This is primarily for lowering blood sugar, losing fat and cholesterol and to a much lesser degree to build your calf muscles. If your goal is to create calf muscles then you want to do weighted calf raises.

The main downside is that building massive legs wont't work with calisthenics. The hardest leg exercise will be the loaded pistol squat. Given a bodyweight of 100kg leads to 100kg per leg which converts to a barbell squat of 100kg. After a few months it will become hard to gain anything from a 100kg squat. And I don't see a practical way of overloading the pistol squat with 50kg+ in order to achieve a squat euqivalent of 200+kg (which should be your goal if you want big legs). Calisthenics surely works for a beginner and some intermediates but there are more effective ways for getting strong and building muscle and it is limited to intermediate lifters.
Would you rather build highly functional legs or massive legs? Not even elite sprinters/endurance athletes have the leg size of a lot of well-known bodybuilders.
Well i like calisthenics more but gym is mrke effective for building muscle, i target more functional strength than hypertrophy so if i had to chose only one id go cali

Yes combining both is the best strategy hands down.

We agree! Combining both calisthenics and weightlifting (especially for dead lifts or other exercises that are hard to replicate with bodyweight) is the best strategy hands down.

Grip strength testing is just a proxy for overall strength. So, if your grip strength is poor, make your entire body stronger.

It's kind of moronic to assume that if grip strength is an indicator of age, training grip strength will make you live longer.
Well that's fair, but exercising in general may help your overall health. I think the point of this video is to let people know that if you notice abnormally weak grip strength, it may be an indicator that your overall health is suffering, and taking steps like: seeing a doctor, doing a full physical, AND starting a new exercise program that INCLUDES working out your forearms and wrist, will be helpful overall and improve your daily life.

When I do these with my hands facing inward in stead of a little less than inward. It almost pops my hand out of my wrist on every rep. What can I do to prevent this? Or what exercise do I need to master before being able to reliably and safely do these?
