First Time Making Pierogi
I’m 100% Polish, but believe it or not, I never tried pierogi until Patti and I visited Poland earlier this year. After that first bite, I was hooked and knew I had to try making them myself! In this video, I dive into my Polish roots and make homemade pierogi two ways: one stuffed with creamy mashed potatoes and cheese, and the other with a flavorful Polish sausage filling. Whether you’re a pierogi pro or trying them for the first time, these recipes are a must-watch. Spoiler alert: They turned out amazing!

Oven Made - Cheesy Garlic Summer Sausage
Просмотров 414День назад
In today’s video, I’m making some mouthwatering Cheesy Garlic Summer Sausage using a pre-mixed seasoning blend from PS Seasoning called Blue Ribbon Garlic Summer Sausage Seasoning. As a proud Wisconsin native, I couldn’t resist adding some high-temp cheese for that extra cheesy goodness! Most summer sausages are slow-smoked, but since I don’t have a vertical smoker capable of low-temperature sm...

Yes, I know this is a bit of a departure for me. Usually, I’m cooking something, traveling somewhere or playing my drums at some sort of gig. I found myself wanting to create something a little different this week. I had just got done playing a show and had decided that I was going to retire, my 10 inch Zildjian splash cymbal because of a crack it has that keeps getting larger and larger. There...
Throw it on Thursday - Andouille Sausage

Today for Throw it on Thursday I made a batch of on Andouille sausage. This is one of my favorite sausages because it is smoky, spicy and so delicious. I usually use Andouille in jambalaya and gumbo. It’s also great on a bun or stir fried with peppers and onions. Recipe Andouille: 5 lbs Pork Butt 45g salt (9g/lb) 6g pink salt (1.2g/lb) 50g garlic (fresh garlic in the meat grinder) (10g/lb) 8g B...

Rob on the Run - Beer and Cheese (the best combination)
Nah Rob, you good! Love ya buddy!
Thanks for the word of confidence. :)
I always thought pumpkin spice was an autumn and winter thing, but whose to say you can't enjoy it all year round? That reminds me...its nearly that time of year I buy my annual bottle of Bailey's
It’s great you have an annual traditional liquor to buy. My son and I go out the day after Thanksgiving and try to find bourbon barrel aged stouts. It’s a great day and we usually finish it by sampling some of our finds.
Whhooaaaaa! Controversy! Almost as controversial as marketing yourself as a carnivore chef then eating sugar, vegetables, tomatoes, and more sugar
Yes, I am a controversial figure. Sometimes people don’t like what I say and delete me out of all of their social medias. oh well, life goes on, and I learn from those interactions.…
I'm not a PSL fan, but white chocolate peppermint mocha around Christmas? Absolutely! Normally I drink my coffee unflavored but getting that drink from a local shop has turned into one of my Christmas traditions.
It’s great to have holiday traditions. Whether it be with family or just something that makes you happy. One of my favorite holiday traditions was when I was working full-time. I would always take off the three days before Thanksgiving. One of those days I would just get in my car by myself and take a drive through the countryside. That made me feel so at peace every time I did it.
Great video! food looks wonderful!
Thanks for the compliment, they were pretty tasty.
If you're worried about carbs for your pierogi, there's other fillings than potato and cheese. There's mushroom, saurkraut, and a chicken paprika fillings that's pretty good.
Thanks for the tip. The floor in the dough adds a lot of carbs… Any suggestions for that?
It's never too late to enjoy you're favorite beverage! I actually have enjoyed the almond milk apple crisp chai from there twice so far.
I haven't tried that one yet, I'll have to give it a shot.
@RobMilanowski some people find chai a little irritating on the throat. I really enjoy it.
I never knew pumpkin spice had a time limit lol but I don’t think it’s too late. Even during the holidays!
It seems like there are always a few folks out there who want to enjoy a good pumpkin spice beverage, even during the holidays. I 100% approve.
Is that seezening carnivore
It depends who you ask. My guess true carnivores would say no.
It’s past 2005 so yes it’s too late. I used to make a pumpkin pie wheat beer in the late 90’s and I stopped making it because of the PSL fad in 2003-4 because I got sick of people saying I was copying that silly coffee joint. I’m as bitter as their coffee about it.
Man… I love this comment on so many different levels. Thanks for making my day! 😂
@@RobMilanowski I’m glad that my pettiness has brought you a bit of joy. Have a great weekend my friend. 😂✌🏻
ITS NEVER TOO LATE ROB 🫡
That’s what I was thinking…
Its still fall, its definitely not too late for pumpkin spice, especially since most people buy pumpkin pie for thanksgiving
Definitely a highlight in my yearly Thanksgiving feast is the Pumpkin Pie. My wife Patty is a Pumpkin Pie artist.
🍑💨 🤣
Well played!
You got me hungry. I have some frozen gyoza, which is like a perrogi. Gonna put some in the microwave.
That's a great idea! Gyoza is always a good option for a quick dinner.
I honestly thought this would be more complicated to make but it looks delicious! Great job for your first try, Mr. Rob! Though I can’t say I’ve ever made pierogis, i did make stromboli with my best friend and his mom on Halloween! I’m willing to share this recipe with them so we can all make them for Christmas!
Thanks, it was a bit intimidating at first but I got a good handle on it…. It was pretty easy once I saw the dough was cooperating.
pierogi are delicious, another great video Rob! I tried some dessert pierogi I was given a few years back, and I can confidently say oreos should not be a pierogi.
I knew that they had dessert pierogi, but didn’t really see them on any menus. I was doing a little research for this video and ran across somebody making strawberry pierogi. I was going to give it a try, but I had my hands full with the two savory ones I was already making. One day I’ll give it a try.
I've never tried making pasta dough, but you made it look easy. I have a little mini blender exactly like yours. I use it quite often. In fact, I'll probably need to replace it one of these days. Handy little gadget.
Yes, that is a perfect size food processor for many things Patti and I make. I was a bit worried when I was making this dough. Right at the end I heard a loud click… I think that was the gearing hitting a limit. It was getting hard to mix. Recently I bought a new large food processor. I don’t think we have used that one yet because this smaller one is so handy.
Hey Rob looks great. What was something your parents made growing up that you look back on fondly?
My dad made the best grilled chicken every summer…. Simple butter sauce with salt, pepper and garlic powder. My mom made the world’s best Cheese torte.
I have fond memories of our family tomato soup with pork. Dessert: chocolate pudding cream puffs.
@@RobMilanowski my parents made Japanese dumplings growing up. I'm sure your family would love to try the pierogies
I think there is a youtube chef out there that would use a year old brisket from the Freezer for the filling. Nice video, allways a pleasure to watch Rob!
Oh.. I don’t think that would be a good idea. Fresh works best in pierogi.
I am here for comfort food like this.
I’m glad to provide that for you. This definitely is a comfort food. Delicious and filling.
Great looking pierogis! I wonder if a lazy man version could be made, maybe with instant mashed potatoes. Although most lazy man recipes I’ve seen on youtube look pretty unappealing
Funny you should mention that. I was nervous about the pasta dough. If there was a premade pierogi pasta dough… I definitely would have tried that.
Ahhh. No gud RUclips food video is without some shredded cheese. Sometimes over doing 2 parts of garlic butter to 1 part steak. Taste gud.
only ate the mbieet thx mom
Yep. I believe you.
Well, I did have a little bit of shredded cheese in my mashed potatoes. I can understand having a nice dollop of compound butter on top of your steak. That adds a nice little flavor kick. I like when it completely melts and lightly coats the steak. Eating it in a semi solid form with a bite of steak really has to throw off the entire mouth feel of the steak. How do you know what you’re eating is butter and what is fat?
The rubber bands around the rolling pin are a great idea, thanks for the heads up on that one. I'm making some cinnamon swirls next week, and getting a consistent thickness on those would be great. I hope you and your family have a lovely thanksgiving. thx!
Yes, I was very happy with those rubber bands. When Patti pulled them out of the drawer and said “here, use these”, I looked at them and couldn’t figure out what they were for. Fortunately, she’s a very caring person and showed me how to slip them onto the rolling pin. I never knew such a thing existed. It really saved the day. Thanks for the Thanksgiving wishes… same to you, or whatever you guys celebrate.
After seeing this I am having a good day. That looked delicious. Thank you for sharing your experience making Pierogi. Will have to try it myself.
You are welcome. It was fun to experience. Not sure how often I’ll make these but the end product was pretty darn good.
Does Michelle have any chicken recipes?
I was wondering that myself.
If she does, I know they will be delicious and properly cooked.
That Michelle seems like a swell lady. I've never made pierogi but do enjoy them quite a bit. Great job, as these look great! I'm glad you didn't needlessly double the recipe. Also, kudos for including the link to the recipe in the description - your commitment to your audience is much appreciated.
Thank you. I think including a recipe is pretty much a must if presenting cooking content. I suppose I could have taken the lazy way out and just wrote… “Watch video” in the description, but that’s not helpful. I usually actually write out the entire recipe, but in this case I linked to the recipe page. It was very easy to follow, and the original author gets the credit.
You know it's going to be a GUD day when Rob uploads. Those looked fantastic! I've never made pierogi either but I might just give it a shot after seeing how those turned out. Shoutout to Michelle for the recipe! BTW, have you ever considered doing an AI recipe series? There's one RUclipsr I watch who is doing it and the results have been quite......mixed
Thanks for the compliment. Yes, I think they turned out pretty good. Dealing with dough was the hardest part for me. Yes, thank you to Michelle. She has a Polish background and has a lot more experience than me making these ethnic dishes. As far as AI recipes are concerned… I’m guessing that would be fun to do but following the AI generated recipe exactly would be a must. If you change ingredients or quantities… or God forbid, just dump ingredients, you would have no idea if the AI generated recipe was any good. Just because you can improvise doesn’t mean you should. (I once said that to a trumpet player that no longer talks to me.)
No shreddy cheese?! Looks gud though.
Nope… no shreddy cheese… just good old fashioned American Cheese… perfect on a Breakfast Sandwich.
eat it with corn bread
I think that is a great idea.
Cheese sausage ayyg seezneeng. Good base to start from. Now add more cheese because “you can never have too much cheese”
Fake news!
Another RUclips chef told me the bread you used is poison and I should instead use beef tallow and some nonsense called “beef flour” to fashion a sort of “bread”
This sandwich is actually Leaning Carnivore. We got MEAT, EGG, CHEESE, SEEZNEENG and the bread I used is a KETO sandwich thin.
😔
🙂
@@RobMilanowski😂
Wheres the seasoning
The homemade Breakfast Sausage patty along with the American Cheese gave it a perfect balance of flavors.
That toaster reminded me of those "Sunbeam" toasters from the 40s/50s. Very interesting design
My father-in-law had one of those. We like this toaster. Always toasts evenly and it’s fun to watch. .
I like your toaster
Thanks! I like it too. It’s nice and smooth and the toast always comes out great.
The best breakfast sandwich you’ll every taste.
Ha… that will never not be funny.
I've never thought to cook an egg that way.
That’s my go to method for egg sandwiches. 45 seconds and I have a perfectly cooked egg. I do spray the bottom of the bowl with some cooking spray first.
Nice sando. What type of bread is that Rob?
It’s actually a Keto Sandwich Thin. Low carbs but nice texture and taste.
Impressive flip!
You know me… I’m all about the show!
Never heard of summer sausage. In south africa it's kind of like boerewors leftovers from the fridge the day after a braai :D Seriously, looks very good though! How long does it keep? Either frozen or just in the fridge.
It is a tasty snack. Treat that we usually have during holiday gatherings. Usually it’s sliced and then put on a cracker. It’s great finger food. For my understanding it will keep in the refrigerator for about 3 weeks after taking off the casing. In the freezer it lasts 2 to 3 months.
That was extremely interesting! I never knew how summer sausage was made. Even though there were lots of steps, it didn't seem too complicated. It's a great gift idea, too!
Yes, it does seem like a lot of steps, but none of them are very complicated. Of course it helps if you have the right tools. I put a few of them in the freezer, but I’m afraid they might be gone before I take them to any family gatherings. I might need to make more.
Ham roll ups are the best!
Probably my favorite appetizer
Ohhh myyyy worrrd...bring it!
😊
Can't stop laughing
Yeah… that was a fun one to do.
Great video, Rob, as always! I do have a question...I've noticed in this and prior sausage videos that when you're putting it in the casing, your sheet pan / tray is always wet. Is that just cold water, or something else? Just curious.
Good question. It’s simply cold water. It helps the sausage slide around on the pan. In this case I probably didn’t need it on there because this was not a big coil of sausage. It drips off the casing that was soaking in water.
That looks amazing! Get you crackers and cheese spread and that'll make for a great snack. Much love from the Rob Mob
I bet that tasted great. You clearly have passion for making food and it shows. Cooking is definitely very rewarding for the work one puts into it. Also sharing good food you're proud of with loved ones feels amazing.
Thanks for the great compliment. Yes I enjoy making food and sharing. I’m also pretty happy that I can now film these things and share them with everybody.
I’ll be making summer sausage at the beginning of next month to give to my siblings as Christmas gifts.
I think they would really love that! I might be doing the same. It really turned out very good and I was surprised how easy it actually was to make. Question for you… Do you smoke yours?
@ yes I will be smoking it. I use my electric smoker at low temperature with a pellet tube and then I finish it off sous vide.
That looks absolutely delicious. Im going to share this with my dad. He likes making sausage and I think this would be right up his alley.
That’s great to hear. I was surprised how easy it was to make. The oven method actually worked out really well. My problem is… I’ve been eating too much of this and might not have any to share by the time the holidays come. I think I’ll be making some more before then.
