Complete Build of the new ARRMA Gorgon
In this video I'm going to complete assembly of the brand new ARRMA GORGON kit. Buckle up boys, this is a long one. Get an icy cold beverage and something to munch on.
This was a spur of the moment purchase from a 2AM shopping stint the night (well, morning of, actually) before we leave for a family cruise.
Anyway, I really loved the body style on this and because I'm a fan of the Voltage-style chassis I thought this would be a good platform to mod in a similar style to my ARRMA GRANITE VOLATGE.
If you're interested in pickup up one of these, you can get model here:

Howdy bashers! I accidently bought a Redcat Shredder on eBay and it arrived with a completely decimated rear diff. It was packaged in factory packaging and looked brand new, but it seems like it was probably a return item. During the first pack I could barely get the model to move so...

Howdy! I'm testing out a theory that the power cutoff I had in my previous speed attempts were due to power draw beyond the discharge rate of my battery. For the initial tests we were using an E-Flight 2200 MAH 3s 30c LIPO. I took a guess that the issue was the 30C discharge rate so I picked up some high discharge (albeit, lower capacity) 3S lipos to test. It worked! During the road test we wer...

Howdy! I wasn't quite happy with 31mph on the first test of the new brushless system so I figured the easiest place to start would be the gearing. Could you possibly say UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH one more time?
Using stock pinion 3650 4500kv with 60 amp esc tis hits 39 mph on stock 2s...48mph on 2s is very fast!
After watching your entire video which was helpful I feel that maybe you may have learned more from it than I did . Don't give up though !
Nice I have been looking for a motor and esc for one of these what’s that motor u was talking about
I went with the spektrum 85A 4000KV combo. It's been perfect since installed.
@@kylegeldmaker and just fit right into no cutting u have the link ? If not thanks
@@sosdeathvalley the 3650 in the spektrum kit requires a some trimming on the chassis to fit. The 3660 did not. Besides the motor length you need to match the shaft diameter to use the stock pinion, I believe it's 3.175 from the factory. This is the closest I could find on Amazon that will drop in: a.co/d/02uMQWVU this link is the motor only, you'll want to find a 3s 100+ amp ESC to get some real speed .
How did you attach the fans and heat sink? To the esc and to the motor.
Take a peek at @1:00 I didn't use ESC power. I just wired the 2 fans together and used a 9v to power them. It worked out pretty decent.
Do you have to swap to the 19t pinion to fit the heat sink over the motor?
@@coltonmcmurry2433 no, I don't think so.
No it's priced at the correct price, the rest are just well over priced, cool vid👍
Thanks! I think I agree. I looked at the most recent releases a few days ago and I'm shocked at how elevated the prices remain.
When you switch to brushless motor what kind receiver do you need
I went with the DumboRC 6 channel with the gyro. This one, to be exact: a.co/d/9R4iG26
Did the stock esc hold up to a 12t 550 motor? Do you know how many amps the stock esc is? Thank you
The factory ESC did hold up for a pretty good while, however, one of the leads de-soldered, but I think that was due to a cold solder. The factory ESC can take a 2s LIPO and I believe it's 40A. If you're interested in tinkering, the spektrum brushless combo is really nice. I put that in a few models.
Thanks for insightfull tutorial, appreciate it. Where can be bought differential gasket? Any other compatible brand will work?. Cheers from europe
I dont believe you can get the gasket alone. looks like the cheapest way is to get this: bit.ly/3ut1kng - It's listed as a "parallel gear and differential pad". I would probably just buy a spare diff from amazon or something, this is the cheapest one I found: a.co/d/3OEByzx
@@kylegeldmaker Thank you💪
@@Winston-hw8wb sure thing!
3 years into mine. Cant say enough good about it! You've hit all my issues, though, I did upgrade the turnbuckles to 5mm titanium, and I'm getting close to going to a 35~ kg servo for just a bit snappier of a turn speed. Aluminum shock caps are also pretty mandatory if you plan on hard bashing, but, in my opinion, hard bashing is a death sentence to most rc rigs. If you just want to test the limits, sure, then fix it, and stay just under that threshold. Great video, I appreciated it!
Thank you for watching! The Kaiju is still one of my favorite models too. Id love to see it back under $400 but who knows if that'll ever happen.
I am a couple years late to the video...lol I just put this exact combo into my Slash 4x4 (was originally a brushed motor. I have uped the pinion to 15 pin(i think, maybe 17. Cant remember) I just got a 3s spectrum battery to try out, used a 2s and want more speed, hope this does it or up the pinion again maybe? Any pointer are appreciated
Gearing + juice = more powah, baby! I believe 3s is the max for that ESC, I've hit like 56 mph on that combo with my buggy.
What’s the setup u got
i stripped 6 screws in a row. i've never had this problem with building rcs.
Which ones? I had an issue with one skid plate screw
Every screw that went into the body. For the servo all 4 screws got stripped and I had to hammer in a bigger hex to get the screws to tighten. I'm currently installing the shock tower and all 4 screws are stripped. I've resorted hammering in a bigger hex and using that to screw in everything
I bought some better tools and everything turned out fine. No more stripped screws.
@@piscesenfpliberal sometimes that's all it takes haha.
In the video what are the grey handled and blue handled hex tools?
The grey T handle hexes are from Harbor Freight, the blue handle hexes are from a company called "Extreme RC Precision", I tried to grab the link for you but the website is dead. I have a link in my description for a pretty decent toolkit that has most of what you'd ever need in normal tinkering.
honestly it's just really cool they made a kit version of this. like, arrma doesn't have kits of anything let alone the cheapest car they make. this could be a really cool project for a father and son getting into the hobby. models are cool and all but they only look good on a shelf
I couldn't agree more. I think this was a great move for Arrma to get more people interested in RC.
What are you waiting for? Go buy one, you won't regret it!
Great video man
I use all the exact same parts and I absolutely agree that these are the best upgrades
I've never had an issue since installing them. I haven't gotten around to the bellcrank yet but im probably going to tear her all the way down for a good maintenance soon.
Old video I know, but man did it come in clutch! I was able to install my TBone bumper in just a few minutes. The only slight hitch was the holes didn't line up 100% but I was still able to get it locked down. These types of videos are great for beginners like me who want to modify/customize their RC's but lack the knowledge. Thanks man!
Glad it helped! I learn pretty much everything from RUclips University lol.
Why does this rc machete shuts down after 5 minutes of run time?
what battery are you running? Mine runs for a good 45 mins on my 5200MAH, 100c batteries.
Dont waste your monry on chinee crappits. Get a Team Associated 14B Money better spent

So the piece of the bracket u cut off. U put between the fan and the heatsink?
Exactly. If you look at the twin fan units youll see what I cut off
@@kylegeldmaker what all did u have to remove from the heat sink for it to fit around the motor ?
@@mattc3597 I cut the bands that wrap around the can, probably 85% and the second fan

Awesome video and update on redcat 👍🥶👍
Thanks!! You're always so positive :)
If they are claiming breakages are from shipping that is not a good thing, any hobby grade rc should easily be able to withstand shipping, it sounds like a lie to me for sure.
The most recent information I've seen says the main issue with the upper arms is a threaded rod that runs through the center of the aluminum bar isn't always "centered" evenly between the plastic ends and this is what's causing the premature failures. I believe the solution for that particular project will be replacing the ends with a new design that has a longer center threaded rod. And while I agree with the spirit of your point, from holding it in my hand and placing it against previous forms (the shredder) and rival-esque models (Corally Punisher), it definitely has a very high-quality feel to it and I would consider it hobby grade for sure. This ordeal is unfortunate, especially for $500, but I think Redcat handled it well. I feel like they were pretty transparent and did the best possible thing they could by halting delivery. Maybe I can change your mind when I finally get to run it 😂😎. Thank you for watching and taking the time to share your thoughts.
I think this is a better looking shredder that still sucks 🤷♂️
It's definitely better looking. It feels stronger, especially in the chassis. When you hold them right next to each other there's definitely a lot more design evident in the machete. It feels kinda like my Corally, which has never broken a single component.
They should have recalled the shredder seriously 🤣
If Redcat say the suspension parts are failing during the shipping process, dosnt give much confidence what will happen when you start bashing the truck. Perhaps Redcat need need to put a fragile sticker on the shipping box lol.
I think perhaps they should just sell the whole company and dump it
Haha, I'm sure they'll work something out. Their fix for the Kaiju arms worked well.
Top A-arms have failed in light spills, centre drive shafts are flexing to much. JT RC had a front lower shock rod end thread pull out from the shock rod, this was a brand new car still in the box.
Man, this seems more involved than their "official" statement suggests. I'm familiar with the customer R&D as I was an early adopter of the Kaiju. Hopefully JT had isolated issues
Upper control arm design, shocks, and drive shafts. Nothing to do with shipping. See DO RC, and Matt MottoWoRX reviews for upper control arm breaks.
The shocks as well
The shocks look identical to the shredder shocks but with red tubes. I haven't had any issues with the shocks on my shredder.
Upper arm weak spot red aluminum
Did yours break?
This is dope man. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences.
Thanks for taking a look! Are you thinking about picking up a kit or already established in the hobby?
Thanks for stopping by. This has been my first upload in a long time. I'm glad to have gotten some time to get back to making RC content. Keep in mind, if you're interested in any products from the video, there's always links in the description.
Nice vid bud I’ve gone 71 mph on 2 s and 86 mph on 3 s with my 104002 basically the same buggy don’t waist your time with 1/8 wheels loose to much differential gear ratio just go to 1/10 foams both of my speeds were set with stock gearing just larger pinion you can check it out on H and w rc racing channel
Does this stock gearing use mod 6? Thanks
I put the same exact stuff my granite voltage and I also had to cut the chassis
It wasn't too bad. I've had it this way for quite a while and I haven't broken a single thing or noticed any issues that could be caused by notching the chassis.
Hi i hope you see this comment. I have a big rock v3 and it has a stock 23 tooth servo. When i get this cheap red 25kg amazon servo is it 25 tooth? Is that why the hot racing horn in nesecarry? Justy trying to understand. Tysm either wayt.
Basically yes, if you don't drop in a servo with the correct spline count then you'll need to replace both components. I wasnt able to find any drop in replacements for the Spektrum (S651 I believe) so I picked up a whole hit racing assembly. Its worked ever since I installed it without any issues. I keep meaning to make a video replacing the stock steering rack but it's never down for repair 😁

Mine is still going strong, I don't think you're going to be disappointed
Great video! I can't seem to find this bumper to purchase. The link provided in the video description no longer works. Did t-bone racing go out of business? Any other options for a bumper like this on the Arrma Granite Voltage?
They closed up shop earlier this year. I believe Integy makes something for the voltage.
@@kylegeldmaker thanks for the info, i'll take a look at Integy
How was the fit with the 3560 motor?
Thanks for the information about the battery issues you were having. Adapters are a sin. lol .. I think all 3s batteries should have IC3 connectors as a law, punishably by 3 days in jail or a 2k fine. Also... they should come up with a plug set you can actually grab onto. The plug on the spectrum ESC is easy to grasp even with traumatic arthritis. Come on battery manufactures. Wake up lol. Great video.
