We had non-stop "drivetrain" issues out of the box. We kept shredding the differentials. That's why they call it a shredder. It shreds diffs. But!! Good news is we fixed it. i just got my shredder and have horrid clicking/locking up in rear diff after 2 packs oh well i wanted a 1/6scale at a budget price and after watching your video and rage rc repairs shredder upgrade videos another hundred or so bucks and should be a solid truck for just running around the yard and alley haha
Still running 6s? Did you shim center differential also? Some advice I got from this guy from this channel,is shim all 3 differentials, 50k diff oil, front and rear, and 500k center differential, and running 6s like a champ with stock 1300kv motor.
i can tell you i watched alot of vides an this is a great video i watched alot of videos before i bought mine i went ahead an got shims an steal spur gear an made a center brace from shock tower to shock tower so the front would not give in you can check were its not got the chassis all the way to the front it gives in alot there vides out there about all what i am telling you but i know people talk bad about the sherdder i did too but i just made everything stronger an now i have a beast of a redcat but i have spent alot of time doing it the parts are cheap an i love the hobbie an makeing the truck better is the hobbie right thank you for this great video my friend an just love the hobbie my friend
Thanks! I watched quite a few and knew what I was in for. Honestly, I wish redcat would address some of the weak points or even make a V2, but. Not sure if that's ever going to happen.
That's it! Maybe the video takes a bit away from it, but it certainly is not an asphalt scorcher. I tend to a baby launches a bit and having driven it for a while I can say for sure that it's not a great platform for speed. It is large and makes cool noises and, in my opinion - looks great.
The original shims that Redcat used on these diffs are 10x5.2x0.2 and have a very small bent / beveled lip. Not sure why the center is 5.2mm because a 10x5mm one works. When shimming the diffs, they may feel perfect just before you screw it back together with the gasket. But what ends up happening (as it did to you), is the gasket will compress and lock up the diff. So you either then have to back off the screws a bit, or remove a shim and tighten the screws all the way down. It’s also a good idea to harden the diff cups with a blow torch if going to 6S. The Shredders are also known to have saggy springs. I run the blue shredder xt shocks on Redcat’s website on my 8E which is way heavier than the shredder and have no sagging issues.
@@kylegeldmaker I'm really interested in getting a Shredder. Maybe a vid with you driving it around. Some info on Maintenance-whether or not its difficult to work on.
@@volksuser totally! I started a new job earlier this year that requires lots of travel. Thanks for thinking of me 🙂. I had a few videos that I was editing but they seemed dated and not really relevant so I never uploaded them. I got a new GoPro and I'm looking to get something filmed soon to test it out 🙂
That's why it's only 349 new. All the videos on these junk diffs you should have got shims when you ordered lol👍 also check out the new kaiju truck being released in two weeks. Also they probably leave the gasket out so you get closer mesh instead of shimming. Like for people who don't know about shimming.
Haha, I sorta knew it was going to happen. But I didn't expect it right away. I'm pretty sure I got a discount because it was a return. I'm kinda interested in the Kaiju EXT, I have the original Kaiju and I really enjoy it. Thanks for watching!
That’s true that the gasket could have been left out for that reason (providing they didn’t have any shins), but they could have simply added one or two shims while not risking bigger problems from the diff fluid from leaking out.
They're horrible. I had one. No matter what anyone says or does to it the diffs will keep blowing up especially if you run 6s. They absolutely will grenade even with all arrma gears inside the cheap POS flexible plastic housing. Waist of money

I've had a hard time finding diff oil in 500k and 1mil weight. I haven't had any issues but I run it pretty gently on 4s.
Redcat Shredder is a good RC I've had it for 8 years and I love it
Had my Shredder for two years now and bash the hell out of it so far no diff problems

Ive only run it on 4s. Since this video I've only had to shim the rear. I will probably shim them all and refill with higher weight fluid.

That's why I wanted to build my own.
I've had mine two yrs and no problems yet?
Is that all the power it has? Your gears sound good, but seems weak or no punch!

Well, you could use Arrma parts.

Looks like someone tried to run 6s
You might be right! My other thought was someone pretty new and just on the throttle continuously.
Kyle we need some new vids!!!
Working on it!! I have a few I'm editing. Anything particular you're interested in?
