    Your note about the origin of the name languidoc was great. I’ll never forget that. You are an excellent professor! I was very curious about the Medoc because that’s the class of wine I drank in college. Remember to get another bottle!!!

    Thanks so much for doing this. $10 is my price point for most wines I routinely drink. Maybe I step it up for the holidays... Anyway, I really appreciate the notes and guidance you proved on these. Too bad about the Pirouette Medoc. I know you've done a few, but I'd love to see more reviews on the TJ or Kirkland branded wines. Those are usually my go-to wines since I'm somewhat ignore (but learning thanks to you 😀) and find those wines to be a good value/reliable. Thanks for the video.

    I took a look at reviews on Vivino for the La Pirouette 2021. One review noted that several of the bottles they tried tasted corked. Might be more than an isolated issue. Thanks for the review. Big fan of the Languedoc but not of off-dry reds. So, you saved me from that wine.

    Great video, Peter. My limited experience is that Kirkland, over time, has gotten better at negotiating for good or very good wines, and offering them at great prices by cutting out the Tier 2 costs. Appreciate your take here. One question: where do you get info on the wine sourcing? I’ve never found tech sheets, and they are inconsistent with putting that info on the label (assume some winemakers might not want it to be known). Cheers!

  • @epbski
    @epbski 2 дня назад

    Great video, as always. It is so annoying when you get a corked bottle. I'm at the point where I feel that if a typical winery is not using screwcap, Nomacorc, or Diam closures, they're making a mistake. Apparently, wineries at the level of a Château Latour pay a premium to get the highest quality solid corks that have been individually tested for TCA, even using advanced technologies like gas chromatography. But for everyone else, please just stop using traditional corks! They're too risky.

  • @epbski
    @epbski 4 дня назад

    At 16:00 I burst out laughing when you were commenting on the tribunal with unicorns on the label! 😂 I also really dislike these Frankenstein, manufactured, manipulated California wines. They have no substance to them and have that artificial, effusively fruity character. But they try to sell themselves with silly labels. They're sort of the Dr. Pepper of wine. And even Dr. Pepper is a superior beverage, which says a lot.

    Good tasting. Guiraud is great value, as is Chateau Suduiraut. When you consider the effort that goes into these sweat wines they seem a bargain. I have not had the Klein Constantia, thanks for the tip.

    I'm a huge lover of dessert wines like this! It's actually amazing that you can get Sauternes at that price when you consider how much goes into making it. You really can't find Tokaj at that price. I'm also very interested to try Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise. Jancis Robinson says it's a shame dessert wines aren't currently very fashionable, because they are usually more expensive and complicated to produce than dry wines. BTW, I'd love to see you do a Port tasting!

    • @MasterSommelierPeterNeptune
      @MasterSommelierPeterNeptune 6 дней назад

      I will do a Port tasting in the near future. And yes its a shame that more people are not into dessert wines. As I showed in the video, with blue cheese its one of the great mouthgasms of all time.

  • @geoffpm

    I have had all 3 of these wines. Great selection !!! Vin de Constance unfortunately was affected by phylloxera and there was a rupture in production. I can send you the documentation. Not sure if everyone knows this but the original Muscat de Frontignan is grown and made within a mile or less front the MED.

    Half a year ago I organized a sweet wine tasting for my wife without knowing I'd love them bottles probably more than she ever would. Of course we had to pair them with Rocquefort, Stilton and Gorgonzola 🫠 absolutely magnificent quality and experience. From that day I started diving further into the style and my wine fridge is now for 1/3 botrytised bottles from all over europe, with the addition of a few appassimento ones. Thank you for sharing your experience and insight, Peter. I can't wait to hear more about sweet and medium-sweet wines which, honestly, seem to be even less spoken about (Alsace Vendanges Tardives from either Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, or Riesling, and all the german Spät/Auslese).

      @MasterSommelierPeterNeptune that would be cool! I am personally not in love with older vintages' opulence or more oxidative styles (like many Chenin Blancs from the Loire), and I would rather drink them too young rather than a little too late. Peter Koff said something along the lines in one of his videos with Jay. Just..in a different way 🤣 Those who know..know

    Another excellent video, Peter! I have fallen in love with your channel. Please keep up the excellent work! I have long avoided any blends from California. Unlike French (and other) wine producers, who blend juice in an effort to make wines greater than the sum of their parts, California wine producers seem to dump their crappy, leftover grape juice in a vat and sell it just to get rid of it. Now, yes, there are a few CA vintners (Bonny Doon comes to mind) who aim to do European-style wines, but they are few and far between.

  • @MichaelJazayeriMD
    @MichaelJazayeriMD 13 дней назад

    Talking about Caymus, on it's own I can see why many like it. It tastes and feels like chocolate milk and black berry smoothie. It is decliscous, but not true to wine and I can make something similiar at home without paying $80! It is also very difficult to match it with food (except maybe chocolate cake, etc?). However, these wines are similar to chess puzzles, for most people if they can solve any easy one, they are happy. It takes work to solve a chess puzzle when there is a queen sacrifice involved, but it excites the chess masters and grand masters!
