Zipper Fly Tutorial for Sewing Jeans
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Год назад
This is the way I was taught to sew a zipper fly when I worked as a sample-maker in a jean-making factory. I modified the technique a little bit for sewing the bottom of the rise after beginning to teach this technique to home sewists. There are SO many different ways to sew zippers, this is just one way. Hopefully there is something here you can take away to help you in your own sewing. Eterna...

Quick Fix for Your Coverstitch Machine (Janome CoverPro1000CPX)
Omg I watched the video to find out the 'magic' in the magic pants and this is really so brilliant! Such a great and well thought-out pattern!
Aw thanks for the kind words! I definitely spent a long time testing these, and am so happy people are enjoying them
Please where can I get the Manila pattern matetial
I get it from GoldStarTool.com. It’s not as expensive as oak tag paper, I actually prefer it over oak tag. It’s a little thinner
I’m looking for underwear, pattern, ideas, or alteration ideas for those with dexterity problems such as arthritis
I’ve had some success with using tiny but powerful magnets - coat them in nail varnish before you sew them in though, because my first experiments went rusty but now they’re painted, they’re holding up well.
I am currently making underwear. I have tried several patterns, but my current favourite is the Tilly and the Buttons Iris. I made 5 airs yesterday, all with an elastic picot lace, FOE, or stretch lace trim and they took me all day. I will try your hip huggers, for sure.
I haven’t seen that pattern I have to check it out!
This dress reminds me of the Viking archaeological dresses found in Greenland
Love that! Just went and looked them up. Major retro haha!
Hello ,thanks for sharing, what kind of sewing machine is that?
In this video, I used a Yamato industrial 3-thread serger and a Janome CoverPro cover-stitch.
This looks like a fun project to break up bigger projects, love it, thanks for the breakdown. Also, I see in your bio that you're in NC - I have some family there and they reported that things are pretty nuts after the storm across the whole state. Sending well wishes to you and your loved ones.
Thanks for your kind wishes! The storm missed us by a couple hours but lots of friends and peers lost a lot 😢
I’ve made my own undies a few times, drafted from a pair that I own and watching underwear making vids. I bring the side seam forward to avoid side chaffing, I like fabric leg bands instead of elastic. I repurpose elastic or remove bands from underwear that wasn’t fitting well. I used old t shirts but it doesn’t stay well fitting, I try to find a little two way stretch, in upcycled t shirts or dresses. Also I saw a method for customizing the gusset which can be skimpy in ready made underwear. I also have an insulin pump so I’m thinking of making a little pocket to use while sleeping. Thanks for the breakdown Ann.
Oh yes! For sure using ribbed fabric folded in half to finish the waist and legs just like a t-shirt collar is a great finishing option!
Tremendous on reworking your trousers 💕💕💕
I think this looks awesome but I hate ironing (can’t stand the heat) so no, I’d never would want this in my actual wear-it closet if I have to press those seems open every time. I even skip ironing shirts and blouses altogether if I can but don’t think that would look nice with this one. Also loved the flower broche and the black and white shirt you made
The black and white shirt has certainly got a lot more wears than the red! I wore the red shirt again on my birthday but just spritzed and air dried so I didn’t have to iron again. Def not practical but certainly a fun make!
You said the magic word: tie dye. i've just got in to ice tie dying and want to make my own tie dyed underwear. 🤩
Your videos are so incredibly helpful, they have helped me learn how to make my first pairs already. I also just made my first pair of magic pamts and i can't stop telling people how brilliantly engineered the pattern is. I normally struggle A LOT with patterns, but your written instructions, along with the videos have been a genuine pleasure to sew along to. I have learned to much from you, and i cant thank you enough!
Thank you! I've had good luck at thrift stores when looking for 100% cotton knits. Such as tee-shirts. Affordable too.
Love it!
Hi, any tips to alter ostamy undies please, I have a large hernia behind my ostamy, so the left side is about 5" bigger than the right side and the back is so high it cuts into my waist. Any ideas would be great. Thanks ❤
Are you looking to alter existing or create new? Off-hand, I would say perhaps ordering larger undies and then taking them in to fit would be needed to keep from pinching. Might be easier to start from scratch so you can customize the tightness of the elastics and create an asymmetrical pattern based on your needs.
Would it be possible to copy out the pattern as we would if our hips were one size and bust another size but instead, this time the left side would be one size and the right another size tapered somehow to blend together. Sounds tricky - I hope you find a way. ❤
certainly! Makes sense to me. You’ll want to just transition as smoothly as you can and be fearless! You just have to let go of what it’s supposed to look like and focus on what your body needs!
Thank you for all the useful information and suggestions
Absolutely! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this great video! I cant wait to see more from you 😃
☺️☺️thanks for watching! I appreciate the support
thank you
Thanks for watching!
You are wonderful! Just went to your website and added some of that jersey knit into my cart! ❤❤❤
Awesome! It is a really lovely fabric, I hope you enjoy it!!
Thank you! You teach sewing skills to the next level. I'm sewing my first pair of Magic Pants. Your tutorial is super!
Aw thank you so much for the support!! I hope you love your new pants!
I just got my pattern and notions in the mail and I'm so excited to get started!! Thank you for this awesome video!
Yay! I hope you enjoy sewing them!!
I once saw the uniforms for the guys and was totally blown away with the adjustable waists. Your patterns are brilliant.
These pants a truly so comfy to wear for me. Life-changer!
Thanks for this! My button snaps were getting loose and I had no idea what technique to use
So glad this worked for you. I’m sure there’s a bunch of ways to sew these but this is what has worked for me!
Just found you and your patterns and love your sew alongs!!!! More please! 😊
🥰🥰 Thank you! Makes my day to hear this
I found your patterns through Carly B, bought the magic pants (super stoked to make them) and then stumbled across your channel. Subbed right away.
Aw she’s the best! I appreciate her support so much
I bought this pattern and love the instructions. I am super stoked to make them.
Aw yay! Glad to hear it!
Great content, covers everything. Thank you. New Knickers here I come
Glad to hear it! Working on another undies video as we speak…
I just finished making my first pair of magic pants, which also happens to be my first pair of pants I've sewn... I've watched this video 37 times (probably more) while making the pants. 😂😅 I have put on a bunch of weight recently and have struggled finding pants that make me feel comfortable and HUMAN. These pants did exactly that. I'm over the moon that I've made my own pants using your pattern. Thank you thank you thank you. Me and my mental health are very appreciative of this wonderful pattern ♥️
😭😭😭 this is the BEST comment!! It’s hard enough to be human, I’m glad I can help in any way 🌈
@@AnnTilleyHandmade thank you so much! I'm already making another pair of magic pants in a different fabric. Thanks for all that you do ♥️♥️
This is absolutely, hands-down the best sew-along video I've ever watched. I learned so much! Very glad I have this pattern (which is next is my queue and much needed). Thanks, Ms. Tilly. Great job.
Aw thanks so much for the kind words! It really helps me stay motivated on making videos when I get positive feedback!
Wow, I am learning so many tricks from you. Thank you for sharing the wealth of knowledge. I can't wait to make my MAGIC ⭐Pants!
Aw thanks for the kind words! I hope you enjoy making them!
I just discovered you through a From Carly B video! I purchased this pattern today and I can't want to make these. I have been saving some special fabric for the perfect pants and I think I have found it! I will be making my first pair with a less precious material before I cut into that special fabric! Thank you for these videos!
Great! Happy to hear it! I hope the videos help and you can always ask questions here if you need anything.
How can I line them? I made them with cream linen fabric.
I would recommend under-lining (carry 2 fabrics like one). Not really sure how you would line these if you already made them though. I know mine are loose enough to wear leggings underneath if needed.
I'm in the middle of making my first pair of magic pants ever, and I must say, you are brilliant.
Wow, what a compliment! I hope you’re enjoying yourself!
The Magic Pants and the striped knitted dress are EVERYTHING!!
🤗🤗🤗 that knit dress is my absolute fave!
My bird dog went crazy when she heard the hawks. She was so confused!
Haha! They were so loud that day!
I don't understand - what fabric do you use for the inner piece? The white one look really soft and comfy.
I used the same fabric as the whole body of the undies. It’s an organic stretch cotton knit. I bought a big bolt of it that I’m going to start selling on my site soon!
Ann! You are such an amazing person! Thank you for being so thoughtful in your pattern designs! ❤❤❤
Aww thank you so much for the kind words! I do obsess over them lol
I'm watching while I await my needle sharp box. I'm looking forward to making these. So unique. So cute. Love your fabric choice. Thanks for this amazing tutorial.
Yay! I hope you enjoy it! Was so thrilled to learn about Needle Sharp. What a great idea
Sizing guidance is so incredibly helpful! I am very curvy; bust 42” waist 35” Hip 46” so I have been afraid to sew anything but dresses and skirts. This will be my first pair of pants! Hoping to make something office appropriate. 🤞
You can do it! There’s some guidance in the beginning of the instructions about grading between sizes. Might be good for you to go down a waist size and keep a larger hip. I’m here if you have any questions!
Hi Ann! I am considering buying this pattern, but what's holding me back is that I have never bought any pattern before, digital or otherwise. Therefore I have a very hard time understanding what I'm gonna receive if I buy the digital pattern, and if I'm gonna be able to make sense of it. I live far away from the US, so the digital pattern makes sense to buy! I've seen the physical pattern in use in this and other videos, but would you be able to do a short video about what the digital pattern contains and how to use it?
Thanks again for this suggestion. I will see what I can do!
@@AnnTilleyHandmade I appreciate your response(s)!
I have been making umdereear out of upcycled tshirts and that works well too. These patterns looks great!
Love it! Upcycling always feels like such a win!
Loved your video very inspiring x
Thank you, glad you liked it!
Your machine should not be skipping stitches! I have had the Janome Cover Stitch Machine, 1000CP, for several years. It was skipping stitches, and I took it back to the place where it was purchased. The timing was not right, so after it was adjusted, no more skipping. I really like mine!
It just seems to be skipping when the machine stalls over thicknesses. But still have much to learn. Would love to try other cover-stitch machines to see how they compare.
Just received my pattern in the mail today, yay! Going to practice making the first one out of muslin to figure out tweaks and practice those pleats! Going to go watch that video, and the two for Magic Pants as well. Thanks, Ann Tilley!
Yay!! Thanks for the support! I hope you enjoy them 🥰
I love that you shared this process!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Thanks for watching it! I appreciate the support 🥰
Can you make a video for beginners about sewing simple stuff please? I like your videos❤. However, just somehow there are something too advanced too me.
I just gave up on my janome and got an industrial with top cover and a selection of binders for less than janome want to charge for just a single binder. After using my temperamental coverpro for years I’ll never touch janome again. Industrial machines are as smooth as can be, jump the seams with ease and never skip stitches 🤷♂️
May I ask what you bought now?
Adorbs
❤❤These videos help soooooo much!
Yay that’s great to hear!
Your surger is awesome
It’s from a factory liquidation warehouse! It’s old enough that the manual is typewriter typed and only in English.
@@AnnTilleyHandmade is it a 3 phase motor? If so, how did you wire for that? I'm looking at getting this same machine! They said it is three phase
@@alyenendrovtsorokean7406it got rewired for single phase from the warehouse I purchased it from. Recently I switched it out for a servo motor that’s much more quiet with speed control!
