      I know the feeling. This fix has helped immensely but still sometimes the stitches from the coverstitch will start unraveling over time with wear 🤬 drives me nuts

    I bought one of these machines and they dont seem to be assembled well at all. I think this is the real problem with them. I just serviced mine and went thru all of the adjustments and the needle height and looper height and timing settings were ok but the thread tension disks were all off some by quite a bit. I have a pull gauge and the service manual so it set them to janome spec hopefully it will sew better as I do not have it completely assembled yet. The looper thread takup spring with the sliding lever on the right side was totally not funtioning and assembled wrong/in a bind so that was a big issue it had but I repaired that a few months ago when i first got the machine. It would move the spring one time and get stuck and never spring back. Its really a cheapie thread takeup setup which is probably why the 2000 has an updated setup and got rid of the type on the 1000. I think thats the only difference in those two machines without taking a 2000 apart. The feed dogs on my machine were too high in the rear. The adjustment for them from the manual specs is to move the feed dogs to the highest position and that should be set to 1.0mm above the needle plate. For reference a schmetz needle clear plastic cover for their little needle boxs of 5 is exactly 1.0mm on the thicker end. If you bring the feed dogs up to their highest point with the presser foot down you can use the needle box cover 1mm end to set the height perfect. I figure everyone with that machine has a schmetz box and its pretty easy. Just remember that the screws on the left are for the front feed dog and the screws on the right are for the rear feed dog. I believe they said to set the stitch length to 3 and the differential feed to 1.0 for seting this. Mine was about 1.3 in the rear and set at 1 correctly in the front. The screws are very tight usually so make sure to use a well fitting screwdriver and if you dont have a lot of grip strenghth you may want to have a helper assist you. Its not something you want stripped out and the screws are not the best quality ither. Im a professional mechanic and I struggled to break a few loose without the screwdriver slipping off and hurting myself. Thats the hardest part in my opinion and you can take it to someone to service it but dont let anyone tell you its too hard or complicated. After going thru this machine myself if I had bought one and wasnt a gluten for technical and machanical punishment or had no mechanical ability or no time I would definitely take it in and have everything gone thru and set to spec because whoever puts these particular machines together has a quality control issue. As long as you have a good repair place that is because some places give you back a machine that was worse than when you brought it. I know because my father is a machine repairman for 30 years so I hear the stories and juding by the distances his customers drive to get him to fix their machines id say there arnt a lot of them. Im also getting rid of the trash led light if you can call it that and putting in a old style push turn type bulb holder with a bright led bulb. The other thing is the presser foot height is only 5mm and its not enough to get stuff under it or a struggle. I have a tip for that too. You can actually adjust it to have a lift of about 7 1/2 milimeters which is about 1/3 more room than they set it at. This doesnt cause any problems the only thing to be aware of is to be carefull of needle tips when changing out the presser foot just because they are closer so you dont want to accidentally bend a needle. Not a real problem if you are aware of the clearance being closer. The nice thing is you only have to take the top corner cover piece off with the one screw. Then the 2.5mm allen screw for the presser height is right there. It is a little harder to do than the feed dogs and more technical but im sure your serviceman would do that upon request just ask him to make it raise to its maximum possible height. Unless he is a by the book or nothing type im sure he will be fine with that many machines are like that. Last is if you think you have tension issues the three upper threads when set at 4 should be about like a regular machine upper tension set at about 4 with a slight decline in tension as you mover from the left to the right. Spec is left avg 60 grams of force at 4. Middle needle is 50 then the right is 40. So tightest tighter tight. Thats checked with 50weight poly thread. A gauge is good but feel is adequate too. The looper is different essentialy its the bobbin of the machine so its avg is set to 13grams of force when set on 3. I will say i had to take the tension units apart and remove a washer (there were two) in order to get my units adjusted to janome spec. It really shouldnt be that way or the person added washers upon assembly but all my threads are set at those numbers now. If i didnt want to take them apart i would just pretend those numbers are not there and use the roller and thread in my hand to set them cause it was not easy. Probably not something most will want to try to tackle. After all that im hoping it sews like a juki I should have bought instead. If it does i will be fixing more for people im sure. I surely hope this information helps someone there isnt a lot of good info out there on this unit or how to adjust tension disks and i know theres enough of us with these that are not happy with them.

      Thanks for your input. It’s a nice reminder to us non-mechanics that it’s not always “user error”. Where did you get the spec manual? Would love to look thru it.

      Yes, I’ve heard some other people recommend other brands. One of my old co workers had a baby lock she really liked. It would be nice to see what other machines are like but glad I got mine going to where I’m not frustrated all the time

      It seems like modern industry doesn’t think we’re smart enough to maintain and fix our own equipment. They just want us to buy more! I would LOVE if we could buy quality machines with great manuals.

    Great repair video thank you. How well does it sew after you adjusted the rear feed dogs? My 1000cpx tunnels like crazy on lighter weight knits, marginally ok on a T-shirt fabric. The tension adjustment hardly make any difference, I ve tried max, min and everything in between. More presser foot pressure , less pressure. I don't get the bunching you were having but horrible tunnel. Looper on zero is a but better but it still tunnels on the left side/center row.,

    • @AnnTilleyHandmade
      @AnnTilleyHandmade  2 года назад

      Hmm that sucks! Are you pulling the fabric at all? The machine ready doesn’t want pulling of any sort. Hands light as air. My lower looper tension is really low too and I like to use a wooly nylon thread but that’s mainly because it makes the stitch look nice and it’s soft against the skin.

    Hi. How do you oil the machine

    • @AnnTilleyHandmade
      @AnnTilleyHandmade  11 месяцев назад

      I’m not sure if I’ve ever oiled this machine. I haven’t gotten to a place yet where it’s felt like its needed it. But usually what I do is if I can tolerably get enough of the cover off to access the main driving shaft (newer machines are harder to open up), I’ll drop machine oil on any moving parts, esp where metal touches metal, and run the machine while I do it so the oil really gets in there.
