    I just finished making my first pair of magic pants, which also happens to be my first pair of pants I've sewn... I've watched this video 37 times (probably more) while making the pants. 😂😅 I have put on a bunch of weight recently and have struggled finding pants that make me feel comfortable and HUMAN. These pants did exactly that. I'm over the moon that I've made my own pants using your pattern. Thank you thank you thank you. Me and my mental health are very appreciative of this wonderful pattern ♥️

    Love this pattern! Hope to make it soon. One suggestion, though = use rectangle rings instead of D rings. The flat bar on both sides will prevent the strap from bunching and help it lay flatter. Rectangle rings of various sizes and colors are easy to find online, but not as popular in regular stores.

    I'm in the process of making these right this moment. Two things, so far, that would improve (IMHO) the experience: 1) I had to buy the PDF version because the paper version was so out, it would be good to have made the cut lines that are not varied due to sizes a bit bolder, and some instructions for assembling the pattern at home. I have done this several times, but if I was a newer sewist I would have not known if I had to cut borders or, if it was ok to overlap, etc. also I think I lost piece G(?) due to this. 2) I think the page numbers are not correct for printed at home instructions? I realize you can only do so much with marking chapters, and I do appreciate chapters, but I'm having to search for the page I need. Other than that....I love this concept, I'm excited for the pants, I'm excited to see more from you. I love your approach to creating patterns. ❤

      Ok thank you for your feedback on this. I am definitely improving my abilities as a pattern maker and running this business by thoughtful feedback like this. This is something I can easily work on improving. The G pattern is a 4.5”x5” rectangle that gets interfaced if you still can’t find your pattern for this!

      I've cut my pieces out today and I can't wait to sew them! Love the detail in your instructions and videos.
      I have a suggestion and a question.
      Suggestion -When you are working on your next pdf pattern it would be great to have it separated into layers so you can turn off the sizes you don't want. (I've no idea how easy that is to do!).
      I have some power net in my stash and was wondering if that would make an alternative to the rib in thr front panel? What percentage stretch is ideal for this piece please? I'm making 2xl, if this helps 😊

    • @AnnTilleyHandmade
      @AnnTilleyHandmade  8 месяцев назад

      @@jaynehunter4506 thanks for your feedback. I thought the PDF was set up with separate layers for each size? I’ll got back and check it the next time I can. With those things it always takes more time and effort than I think 🙄 But at least you only have to do it once.
      I have not personally tried powernet. The value of stretch ribbing is the combo of the rib and the stretch helping the fabric return. Although it’s so dependent on your body shape. I have removed the ribbed panel after I’ve worn the pants and found the panel fabric to be unsuitable, and just replaced it and top-stitched the new panel into place. So it is changeable if you find the powernet to be not working for you.

  • @Hobbyrian
    @Hobbyrian 8 месяцев назад +1

    Nice pants and tutorial. I am confused by the Ribbed stretch knit panel, it seems to me like it doesn't do anything. The straps are attached to the D rings and that is a rigid construction so the panel isn't stretching anyway? What am I missing?

    • @AnnTilleyHandmade
      @AnnTilleyHandmade  8 месяцев назад

      The rib panels allows you to pull on the pants over your hips. Then it holds the waist in place while you attach the straps. But, yes, once the straps are attached, the ribbed panel is not “in use” and hides behind the front flap.

    36:47 I keep looking at the pocket bag. Don’t you want the right side fabric to be on pocket inside?

    • @AnnTilleyHandmade
      @AnnTilleyHandmade  27 дней назад

      I like to have the right side of the bottom pocket bag to be facing the inside of the pants (touch the body) so it looks nice on the inside. But the top pocket bag is usually facing the inside of the pocket. So it does feel a little weird to have right side to wrong side when attaching the pockets. But of course it really doesn't matter since it's all in the inside anyways!

    Hi Ann. These pants look great. Your video is fantastic; I'm so glad you did it! I had seen the paper pattern at my local fabric store (Stonemountain and Daughter in Berkeley CA), but didn't get it before they sold out. I just ordered the paper pattern and a kit from your site.
    My question concerns the appropriate fabrics. I know the pattern says light and medium weight wovens with linen in mind. I'm interested in using woven wool and was wondering what you think the maximum weight that would work might be (oz/square yard or grams/square meter)? I'm guessing as long as it's a looser weave (rather than a felted type of wool) it will have similar give to a linen fabric. I'll also have to line the wool pants, so I'll factor that in to the weight calculation. Thanks, Antonia

    • @AnnTilleyHandmade
      @AnnTilleyHandmade  9 месяцев назад

      Always so much to contemplate with fabric choices! If it is thicker and/or on the stiffer side, I would contemplate sizing up, or at least adding 1/2” to the outseams. The pattern definitely benefits from the relaxing nature of linen and even a lightweight cotton will feel tighter on the hips in this design. And if you’re going to line them… I would size up unless you’re at the very bottom range of a size.

  • @highstepnightowl

    I have questions about the ribbed knit panel. I am buying the pattern to make pants for my mother who has nerve damage due to surgical scars. Is the ribbed knit heavy like a maternity panel or is it more like the ribbing around the cuffs of hoodies? Or something in between?

    • @AnnTilleyHandmade
      @AnnTilleyHandmade  8 месяцев назад +1

      I like to use a stretch cotton rib knit that I get from JoAnns. It’s very soft more like hoodie cuffs. You can really choose whatever works best for your mom’s needs. Ultimately the strap is what’s holding the pants up. The knit panel is helping get it over the hips and hold things together until you get the strap secured so it doesn’t need to be crazy tight. I think this’ll be a great design for someone with sensitivities around the belly. Let me know if you have anymore questions! -Ann T

      @AnnTilleyHandmade Thank you! That makes so much more sense now. I think I might have some knit in my stash that will work. I'm excited to get started now.

    When you stretch the area between the knee notch and the crotch seam, which seam is next to the feed dogs on the bottom?

    • @AnnTilleyHandmade
      @AnnTilleyHandmade  Год назад +1

      In this video I have the Back panel on top, Front panel on bottom. If you’re trying to ease any seam, it is usually better to put the bit you’re try to ease (the bigger bit) on the bottom so the feed dogs can help you pull it thru and the presser foot can help (subtly) push the top layer.

    • @AnnTilleyHandmade
      @AnnTilleyHandmade  5 месяцев назад

      I would recommend under-lining (carry 2 fabrics like one). Not really sure how you would line these if you already made them though. I know mine are loose enough to wear leggings underneath if needed.

    • @AnnTilleyHandmade
      @AnnTilleyHandmade  Год назад +1

      Of course! The serger is only for finishing the seam allowance nicely and some of the edges. A zig-zag stitch will work in its place or sometimes home machines have stitches that are meant to be faux serge stitches. It won’t cut the edge of the fabric but it’ll keep the edges from fraying over time which is the goal.
