Hi, I'm a retired railwayman living in Devon whose major interests lie in transport, particularly old railway locos and aircraft, world travel and have a particular fondness for all things Spanish. I've been hosting RUclips shorts of late with an interest in growing the channel by entertaining (hopefully), other enthusiasts. Take a dib in and view some of the videos, it all helps.
A Surprise Visitor to Olympia
What was later to become a regular sight on the Ramgate, Deltic 55022 turned up unexpectedly on a crew training run almost a year before it went into service on the train (1998). Our camerman had his attention elsewhere and was taken aback at the appearance of this classic machine at Kensington Olympia station.

Peaks on the Midland Main Line

Class 44, 45 and 46 locomotives as they were known under TOPS renumbering were to be found the length and breadth of Britain. Their natural home intially however was the Midland Main Line route out of London St Pancras where they operated throughout their lives during the 60s, 70s and 80s. Featured here are some examples of such workings on the route with shots taken at Kettering, Leicester, Lo...

Just for the locals! a very short clip found whilst editing my friends video that shows a Nuneaton pub long-since disappeared. I'm sure most of you will remember very well. ;-)
The Hope Valley Line

A short ride along part of the secenic Hope Valley line in the 1990s aboard a heritage Class 101 DMU. One of the odd quirks of privitisation led to a handful of first-generation DMUs surviving into the late 1990s as seen here and operated at the time by Northern Rail.

Coventry Theatre

A once very familiar site to Coventrians was 'Coventry Theatre' in Hales Street. It opened in 1937 as the New Hippodrome and was renamed the Coventry Theatre in 1955. In 1979 it was purchased by businessman Paul Gregg and became the Coventry Apollo. It closed in 1985 with a performance by Barbara Dickson. In its later years the building became a bingo club before being demolished in 2002. Lone ...

A Trip to Leicester in the early 80s

A wet and miserable day which started at Hinckley station as we witness the departure and arrivals of class 31 services on Norwich/Birmingham services. This is followed by class 31 haulage to an equally miserable Leicester station in very wet weather showing the departure of a northbound HST service and a view of Leicester TMD as seen from the platform. This sequence has been transferred from S...
RARE video clip of the Gosford Green Line in Coventry
Просмотров 3,1 тыс.14 дней назад
A very early and rare video clip taken in 1980 of a car train having left the yard at Gosford Green and heading north towards Three Spires Junction. The location of the shot at Barras Heath is now unrecognisable. The train was about to pass the old Morris Engines plant, one of several automotive factories to be found in Coventry at that time. The line sadly closed the following year in 1981.

This is incredible!
Never knew that steam locomotives and blue-and-grey coaches coexisted.
Excellent thanks for uploading.
Glad you enjoyed it
Something better about those days.
Nice to see the Hymek and warship locos
individuals wearing shorts in the foyer - reaaally.
John - your films are brilliant! Keep them coming...
Glad you like them!
Visual history. Nice one John. Curiosity question, ever work at New Street?
No, been based at several places, Nuneaton, Coventry and the North Warwicks line but never worked at New Street.
Fabulous film! What’s 306? Looks like a rebuilt Bulleid spamcan but different somehow, Q1 con rods or something.
Wonderful film, many thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
Ah… the magnificent Pacifics👍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
When we made things and things worked!
What a variety of coaching and van stock!
Wow 🤩 you certainly have a treasure-trove of film ! Thank you so much for sharing, the 4-Cor, 42 & 35 are awesome 😊
Glad you like them!
Superb
Thanks
🥲
It must be 'hard life' driving trains through the most beautiful Scottish countryside 😢
Mk2a in Southern Green? I had no idea this existed!
The Southern had 20 Mk2A FKs, for use on Southampton boat trains, fitted with steam heating of course. Bullied Pacific's were some of the first loco's to haul Mk2s, the coaches found their way onto West of England services a few years later as captured very nicely in the video 👍
Some of the first batch were in SR green and as you can see, ran with Bulleid stock and MK1s. They ran on boat trains and also (like this) in Exeter-Waterloo rakes. Usually, they popped up singly, near the catering car. Others were also delivered in crimson lake with lining for other regions.
Wonderful times 👍
Awesome. Brings back happy memories of trips with my dad as a kid. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching
Very good!
Thanks!
I'm speechless!!!!! Absolutely fantastic video which brings back so many fond childhood memories for me... How times have changed throughout the year's, unfortunately not necessarily for the better.
Thank you very much!
This was when a train was a train, not a souped up DMU
Lovely film thanks for sharing ❤
Glad you enjoyed it
Cracking vid. Especially the lesser spotted Southern Green MK2a FK at 1:32 Thanks!
Wow Mk2s in 1967?
Yep not many people realise the early Mk 2s were delivered in regional colours
Nice to see it as it was!
Very good!
Thanks
Can't beat a Class 101 in BR green livery. Loved the video, it brought back some happy memories.
Glad you enjoyed it
Fun
Look at all the spotters! Bet they'd be moved on now as a health and safety risk or something
Simply the best! These beasts are still my favourites having ridden behind the on the MML and the glorious Settle Carlisle. On one occasion we had 46 006 with 12 MK 1 s growling up the Lickey with a 20 MPH restriction at Bromsgrove. Anything powering up that notorious 1 in 37 is mega but nothing compares to a Peak
Best video to date 😊
Thank you so much 😀
Ah Daisy, I remember her well. The last time I travelled that line was in a transpennine class 124 unit, so some time ago. What a lovely film.
East midlands 7 day rover. Master Cutler. Heeley Bank. Power handle in the "ON" position. What a way to start your six week hols.
Never understood why BR did not persevere with the Cl 210 demu - would have been a worthy successor to the 205 Thumpers and a 100% improvement on the Pacers that much of the country ended up with.... and still endures. The NI railway made a success of them with their Class 450 variant for many years
I've moved to Cornwall now The Nag's Head is no more
Great footage, thanks for uploading this. Those were great days, such a variety of motive power around the West Midlands then.
Glad you enjoyed it
Wonderful footage top man 👍
Thanks 👍
@@foretrak no probs mate 🤞
👍
Ive always loved the sounds of the big Sulzers. St pancras was a wonderful place with three or four throbbing away under mr Barlow's wonderful roof.
Great video that does the class proud! The cut from the first express passenger shot to a Peak hauling coal wagons was harsh though fair, they always earned their keep!
The first coach is a standard BR Mk1, the second is a LNER Thompson, both quite simple to recognize. Is the third coach a SR Bulleid one in maroon?
Fantastic film. It took me right back to the mid seventies and my time seeing and hearing these Beasts running through. 3RD Carabinier was a regular a lot of the time accompanied by various 47’s 44’s on Coal to London and of course our old friend the double headed 25’s on London Brick. I’d go back in an instant if I could.
Glorious and thank heavens that people thought to take movie film of these beauties.
Saw all but one of these
Riddys ex army and navy stores was a gem!
Best colour scheme. Be nice if it had whiskers instead of the yellow 😊
Very good!
Thanks!
Great looking Rail Car, probably the best way to travel any scenic line in one of these. Many thanks.
Oh my god! I loveeed this place!!
I'll get you Mr Wabbit!
Good old Daisy ❤
