A Surprise Visitor to Olympia

What was later to become a regular sight on the Ramgate, Deltic 55022 turned up unexpectedly on a crew training run almost a year before it went into service on the train (1998). Our camerman had his attention elsewhere and was taken aback at the appearance of this classic machine at Kensington Olympia station.

As the intro says, they were regular motive power on Virgin cross country services to Ramsgate from 1975. Apparently Virgin booked them because their reliability

Looks like the Engine has been idling for a while, plenty of oil smoke on throttling up. They were at their best in that colour.

I only ever see Deltics running with one engine, shame really .Maybe they can't afford oil as they do chuck out a bit in that 'claggy exhaust.
