where I saw my first pantomimes as a child and where I saw my first gig as a callow youth in 1978. Featured very heavily in the young lives of my mother, uncle and aunt as well when they were growing up. Sadly missed.

I saw Jimmy Clitheroe there in a pantomime when I was knee high to a grasshopper, must have been Xmas 1965.
Early 80s went with friends to see The Human League, stood right at the front by the stage.
1983, worked in the De Vere Hotel and served Julio Iglesias who was playing there for 2 nights. Silver service in the restaurant, I used to take any job rather than be unemployed.
Sad that it was knocked down.
I had a further connection because I had a 6 month job creation scheme working in the transport museum store in Curriers Close Canley in 1978 long before the museum was built on its place.
Interesting that you're a retired railwayman John. After working in the De Vere I went to London to work on the buses for a couple of years, helped my parents retire to Bournemouth and joined Wilts & Dorset in 86.
In 87 I joined BR - NSE at Bournemouth and was a guard at Bournemouth for 11 years before getting my driver's job at Salisbury. Lovely driving down to Devon and especially the Paignton run until they took the route away from us.
Retired due to ill health, IBS - not good when you're a driver, in 2019. I miss the job so much especially the messroom banter.
