- Inclement weather and in particular snow, has always presented challenging for railway operators. Forthe enthusiastic photographer though, it is often seen as an opportunity in which to capture trains as they battle the conditions making for interesting scenes to look back on. Here is a short collection of such snowy scenes with clips taken across the network from 1986 to 1996.
Great bit of railway nostalgia as well. Wish we could turn the clock back.
Wonderful footage, something about trains in the snow that just seems perfect.
Yes, thanks
Wow, wasn't expecting that! Thank you for posting this. I worked as a Commercial Guard at Basingstoke for 20 years and another five on the station itself starting just after SWT came to be. I spent a large chunk of my teenage years watching the trains there. When you get to a certain age, there's a philosophical feeling about the whole thing. Nearly everything in your video of Basingstoke has changed....which is sad....but it holds such happy memories that you can't help but smile when you see it. The Bog unit coming into No.5 bay. The flashing of the shoes on icy conductor rails, long lines of slam door CIGs and VEPs. Wonderful! Happy Days. Started my day off really well this morning. Thank you again
Thanks for watching.

Had the 225 had a failed class 91 so the 86 was dragging the DVT + carriages ?
That. I couldn't tell you. It was my colleague that took the footage some years ago
