Hi, I notice that sometimes you use relatively high ISO like 2500 and 4000, and keep the shutter speed below 1/200. What if using lower ISO and lower shutter speed like 1/100? And how did you keep your photo clean with high ISO, did you use lightroom AI denoise? BTW It's a great vid and I really enjoy watching it!
Hey, thanks for the question. I think I was trying to bring in more light while also keeping things relatively sharp. The Z50 can handle ISO around 3-4000. Where it starts to fall apart is up in the 8-10,000 in my experience. Never tried AI de noise on any of my photos.
@@RolandKaufmann Thanks a lot for your reply😀
I have the Olympus OM-1 & Olympus 40-150mm pro lens it's fantastic but can get heavy and cumbersome I've been eyeing the Nikon Z50 for a while now it looks very compact and seems to have great image quality.
Oh very cool! Yeah I can see that being a bit more taxing on longer shoots. The Z50 is definitely my preferred walking around camera. I’ve done 3-4 hour stretches with it in my hands. My favourite lens to throw on it these days is the 27mm f/2.8 from TTartisan. Makes for a very light setup! Let me know if you have any questions about the camera 📷
@@RolandKaufmann will do many thanks
Hi Roland sorry to ask about out topic question on your video Cause most of the youtubers that i ask not answering my questions but you man your amazing most of my questions you answered me. My question is which is better z50 or Z6 based on your experience? Thanks
Hey, ask any question you like haha. That’s a tough one for me to answer because I’ve never used the Z6. The main difference between the 2 being the Z6 is full frame where the Z50 is APS-C (crop censor). I heard that Nikon discontinued the Z6 so you may only be able to buy it second hand. Not 100% certain on that. What are you looking to photograph?
Always a insanely fun time while we are out together brother!
@@Chris_Palmer never a dull moment! Glad we didn’t get shanked in Gastown 😄.
@@RolandKaufmann oh god me too! Its getting bad down there lol
Would love to hear your thoughts on the Freewell V2 filters! What are you going to make with them? 👀
Either no lens is attached, or the attached lens is a non-CPU lens. To shoot with a non-CPU lens, change the shooting mode to "P", "S", "A", or "M". This prbm solution please?
I shoot with manual lenses and shoot in “M” (Manual). I’ve never seen that message come up before 🤔. Which lens were you using?
Cool vid! 🤩👌
Thanks so much 🙌🏼
Excellent images. Beautiful place to be in. Loved the energy and the vibe of the place.
Thank you! It was a lot of fun to photograph. Seemed like there was something happening everywhere 😎

Thanks 🙏
The photos look well-crafted. 📸
Thank you!!
My favorite "knock around" camera-lens combination.
Right!?! Goes together like peanut butter and jelly!
Just ordered the Z50 with the 2 kit lenses. I had a hard time choosing between the xt30ii, a6400, and Z50. Hope I made the right choice. 😂
I think you made the right choice! The 2 kit lenses are great for daytime photo/video. Plus a lot of 3rd party lens options for APS-C Z mount these days.
@@RolandKaufmann Sweet! What is your favorite prime lens for the Z50?
I'm glad I've picked up the 1.2 instead of the f2. Looking forward to doing some night shots
F1.2 at night is pure magic!!
Do you think the lack of evf matters in z30 ? i am confused between z30 and z50 ? z50 has an evf but you were not ussing that much? and do z30 has same level of weather sealing of z50?
Depends on what you’re used to. I use the EVF a lot more when I’m not making these videos. It’s more interesting to keep the camera in sight that’s why I use the LCD for the POVs. EVF is very useful on bright days when it can be harder to see the screen. Z50 and Z30 are very similar as far as what’s inside (processor etc.). I believe they both have the same weather sealing. Z50 has EVF but Z30 has a swivel screen which is nice too. All comes down to personal preference. Let me know if you have any other questions!
@@RolandKaufmann thanks for the reply.....here in India z30 costs around 650$ and Z50 costs around 800$...so you are telling that 150$ is worth the viewfinder . And how is the af performance of z50? I mean after recent updates vs initial days. My puspose is street photography and potrait shooting for now.
@@abhijitbairagya8105 oh good to know, I didn’t realize there was a price difference. Z50 also has a built in flash right by the EVF. Forgot to mention that. AF is good enough for me 90% of the time. Eye tracking is very good for portrait photography. Check out my instagram (@roland_kaufmann_) to see what I shoot with my Z50.
@@RolandKaufmann thanks a lot...
Canada looks cool. I just ordered Z50 with the both kit lenses. Can i come and shoot with you? 😁
Very cool! Hope you love the camera as much as I do. If you’re in Vancouver message me on instagram.
nice vibes. keep on shooting!
Thank you!! 😊
I have the same camera. I have no use for the 16-50mm lens. I have a 200-500mm lens and a 50-250mm lens for my photography. Great video. Thanks for sharing this video with us. ❤❤❤
Very cool! Thanks for stopping by. I want to try out some longer focal lengths as well. What do you shoot with the 200-500?
Great video and shots keep up
Thank you!! ☺️
I love the look of the Nikon Z fc. I really want to buy it, but it is not waterproof. For the same price (approximately $1k), I can get the Z50 with two lenses (NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR and NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR). I am not into mirrorless cameras yet; I only use a smartphone. I cannot decide which one to buy.
Well the Z50 isn’t waterproof either 😅. It is weather sealed though and I’ve put it to the test haha. Pros of the Zfc are the manual dials and a swivel screen instead of a tilting screen. Other than that they are pretty much identical. I still love my Z50 three years later. It was my first mirrorless camera as well 👍🏼
Z50 or z5? I'll prolly use it for street photography, animal, and a little bit of video shooting
I can absolutely vouch for the Z50 for any type of photography you want to do. When it comes to video you’re going to have to think about certain things more. Without IBIS in the Z50 I tend to use lenses that have VR in them to shoot video. Otherwise it turns into a wobbly mess. So it depends on what you want to shoot video of and what lenses you intend to use for that.
Hey man Have you tried viltox 85mm f/1.8? Is it same as good as you have? Planning to buy soon
Sorry, I have not tried the Viltrox. Might be worth the savings. The Nikkor lens is not cheap haha.
@@RolandKaufmannyeah you’re right man. I can save like almost 40% less on viltrox Thanka agin for your video So inspiring to learn more about
You’re welcome. Hope you enjoy whichever lens you choose!
Masterful editing man! Super clean, Impeccable vibes.
Thank you very much! It was a fun video to make 🙌🏼
Are you using chest mount for your go pro?
Yep just a regular chest mount. Nothing fancy 😎
Had to get rid of this camera for street found the AF unreliable
Dang! Which focus area were you using? I found a lot of success with single point auto focus. But when it gets dark then the AF really struggles haha.
@@RolandKaufmann dynamic area
@@willgreig8912 ah yes I can see how that could be an issue. I like to use single point or manual focus. Take the control away from the z50 hahah
Хорошие кадры! У меня тоже z50 с объективом Sigma, 17-70 f2. 8-4 через переходник. Очень доволен камерой и объективом.
Oh nice, that’s a good lens! Which adapter are you using?
Я использую FTZ II. Всё прекрасно работает
Have you tried the TTartisan 50mm 1.4 tilt lens yet? I was thinking of getting it for the z50 but I'm confused, part of me wants to get the Viltrox 50mm 1.8 instead...haha. But the tilt lens seem quite fun, like the perfect nifty fifty but idk.
I have not. Tilt shift never really interested me haha. Give it a go and tell me how you like it though!
@@RolandKaufmann yeah I don't see myself using it that much too, but the price it's coming in is good. Do you suggest Ttartisan lenses or Nikkor glasses like the 50mm or 35mm in terms of image quality and low light shoot?
@@thenoobieditor for the money TTArtisan lenses are decent, but Nikkor are better overall. Worth it if you can afford it.
@@RolandKaufmann Got it. Thanks for the the reply.
Can we see some landscape videos every once in a while? I really enjoyed the first one Greetings from Germany
Hey! I’ll see what I can do 👍🏼
May i know your settings on gopro?
Hey, I’m still using the hero 5 session to film the POVs. My settings are 2.7K resolution, 30 Frames per second, stabilization on, and I use auto white balance and exposure. Hope that helps!
Nice video but you walked the wrong way 0:00 😂
Haha what do you mean wrong way?
@@RolandKaufmann bro I forgot the term but you moved your arm and leg on the same side in the same direction 😂
@@kriszhli 😂 never noticed that! Probably overthinking trying not to hit my friend’s camera haha
Recently got into photography and digital art, after 2 months of searching for a good first camera deal i came up with these 2: a) Nikon Z50 w/ 16-50 and 50-250 for 1000$ b) Sony a6700 w/ 16-50 for 1500€ I really like the Nikon, the only thing that i am worried about is how old the Z50 is compared to the Sony a6700… I would like you to share your thoughts about my dilemma :) Keep up the good work, subbed
Hey, that’s a great question! What does the A6700 cost in dollars? Just so I know how much more money we’re talking about. I’d say that spec for spec the A6700 is a better camera body. It also has age on its side like you said. The Z50 is a great deal for what you get though! Build quality is top notch. Are there any other questions you have about the Z50?
Hi Roland, great work. A serious question here, how much do you use the EVF? I'm thinking to get the Z50 but people around me suggest to get the Z30 which has better charging port and flip screen. What's your take on this?
Thank you very much! That’s a good question. I actually use the EVF much more when not making videos. I tend to use the lcd to show you guys what the camera sees. If you can do without it though then the z30 is a great option. I wish the z50 had that flippy screen haha
@@RolandKaufmann Yea it's a tough choice haha. I watched so many photoshooting videos and I enjoy taking photos on my phone, this year I'm motivated to invest in it. Any reason if you would recommend beginners to have the EVF? Or it's down to personal preference?
@@vaporeon2822 if you’re used to the phone screen then the Z30 would feel pretty natural. I use the EVF for bright conditions or if I want to focus on something smaller. It is a personal preference
@@RolandKaufmann Alright, thanks for sharing your experience!
@@RolandKaufmann Just to let you know I got myself a Z50 with 16-50 kit lens today! Only able to bring it out for shooting at weekends. I hope my motivation stays.
Great lens! I'm use at my Sony A7c
It’s sneaky good! Every time I take it out I’m happy with the photos :)

Thank you so much! That hill is no joke lol. And yes, Dad’s root beer is so damn good!
So happy to find a z50 channel!
Thanks for stopping by! Hope you find something useful :)
Z50 or a64000 for photography?
Good question! A couple years ago I would have said the Sony, but Nikon have done a great job of adding DX lenses to the Z line up. Nikon Z50 all the way!
@@RolandKaufmann I've been eyeing for the sony a6400 but the z50 catches my eye because of its buttons and classic mirroless look. Thanks for this, I'll consider your answer as my final decision to buy the z50.
Great photos, so the kit lens is good for bright situations right? That explains why the pictures are a bit noisey and aren't that sharp when i am practicing indoors with less light coming in.
Thank you! Yes the kit lens is great when shooting outdoors in the day. I’ve struggled indoors when there’s not enough light as well.
@@RolandKaufmann that's good to know and puts me to relief since I thought at first I may have made the wrong choice for my starter camera (although this seemed much better than the a6400 and was cheaper with an extra free battery) . Guess it's just my noobie skills and bad lighting/ low light capability of the lens that makes the indoor pics grainy.
shooting in low tide is so fun (: now im considering going wider than 35 😅 another banger vid, thanks (:
Low tide is the best! Love walking on the sand. Good for minimalism :). 27/40mm FF Equivalent is a pretty sweet spot. Took some getting used to though haha.
Thank you for the video. I love my Nikkor 24mm F1.7 lens, but it costs three times more than the TTARTISAN. I just went to Amazon and bought the lens you recommended for $80. It's always good to have a backup lens 🙂. Thanks again. Edit: Amazon has it for $79 (50% off) for a limited time.
Awesome, thanks for letting me know! The price of the TTArtisan is the cherry on top. Pretty incredible what you get for the price. Enjoy your lens!
A nice video Roland. I have the Nikkor Z 28 f2.8 lens for full frame, a lens I like a lot on my FX camera. Very similar to the TTartisans one you used (but no fancy aperture ring though). Your POV inspired me to try my 28mm out on the DX Z50 body too, should be interesting. I like the discipline a prime brings to photography.
You should definitely try it. I’ve kind of been on the 40mm field of view for a bit now. It’s pretty nice for most things!
Inspiring as always! How would you say the Artisan lens compares to the 16-50 kit lens? What can the 27 do that the 16-50 can’t?
Thank you! I’d say the pros of the TTArtisan over the 16-50 are wider aperture (f2.8 vs f4ish), all metal construction vs plastic, and I like having the aperture selection on the lens itself. Pros for 16-50 are more versatile focal range, built in Vibration reduction. They are pretty different beasts haha. I like prime lenses for there simplicity 👍🏼
Another great video Roland. Just out of curiosity what mode do you shoot in the most? Are you a manual guy or do you prefer A mode more. You may have answered that somewhere else but thought I'd ask. Cheers!
Hey, thanks so much! I shoot in manual 100% of the time, it’s just instinctual now. I want to try out aperture and shutter priority modes one day.
@@RolandKaufmann thanks! Ive tinkered in both modes. Mostly I shoot in manual but A mode has its pros....was just curious. Cheers!
@@RolandKaufmann Hi, I find that according to the EV scaleplate, your photos are always underexposure. I know in manual mode you don't have to care about it. But my point is How do you know the exposure is correct. Or maybe you tend to take underexposed photos and process them in lightroom?
@@bearfrye2177 yeah I tend to underexpose most of the time. Usually raise the shadows in Lightroom.
@@RolandKaufmann Thank you! I am new to photography and got the Nikon Z50 + 18-140 kit lens several days ago. Very love to watch your vids to learn everything!
Hey POV friends! Would love to answer any questions you have about the TTArtisan AF 27mm f2.8. I put a link to the lens in the video description if you’re looking to pick one up 📷.
hey Roland just brought Nikon z50 what focus settings do you recommend for street and portraits
I’d recommend single point for street and auto area for portraits. Single point allows me to choose the exact spot I want focus on. Auto area allows me to use eye tracking for portraits.
@@RolandKaufmann for wildlife
@@KushagrrGupta take your pick haha. Can use the auto area and use the yellow tracking box. Not sure if eye detection works for all animals.
@@RolandKaufmann thank you bro
Hi i recently bought the z50 with 16-50 and love it so far, like it's so lightweight, small yet old school and produce great images. Since I'm just a beginner, do you have a video regarding setting up the cam since I have a few doubts related to the autofocus. I'm into cars and often take panning shots in traffic.
Hey, that’s awesome! I don’t have a setup video but I’ll do my best to answer any questions you have. What are your autofocus issues? I’ve taken a bunch of panning shots with the Z50 of cars and all kinds of things… :).
@@RolandKaufmann hey! Thanks for your reply...I tried some panning shots today and the camera worked really well, unfortunately I was stopped early by traffic police asking me not to take photos yk because they take bribes and all. Haha...guess they mistook me for a journalist which I am actually studying for... anyways I'm loving the z50 so far and will take some photos in another location where there's no traffic police otherwise what's the point of buying such an amazing camera. I also saw your vids and I'm quite jealous how you can move around freely and take such great pictures because in my country it's a bit difficult to do that.
