@@woodpeckersTravelStory oh nice. Yes, the prime lens will give more background blur for sure. I’ve taken many photos with the kit lenses as well though 👍🏻
I've been really enjoying this lens too. I'm much more of a telephoto than a wide-angle shooter, even for street/travel photos, and find I'm using it much more than the 35mm for every day use so far 😄
Same! I tend to gravitate to the telephoto side more and more. Still love my 35mm for when I need less compression/more things in frame. My favourite lens for travel is my 50-250 DX 😅.
Those Nikon Z primes (Z20, Z35, Z50 and Z85 all f/ 1.8 S) are very, very, very sharp. AND expensive. You post gave the idea.... As a trial, I replaced the 16-50 kit lens on my Z30 and used the Z20mm 1.8 / S. Because of the Z30's cropped sensor that Z20mm becomes a 30mm (very, very nice!!!) What a difference!!! AMAZING!!!
@@RolandKaufmann Good idea, I'll start trying the other primes as well. That 20mm showed quite a difference from the kit lens, now I can't wait to try the others. THANKS
Few weeks ago i was out camping n four wheel driving, i took over 350 photos....i used 8 or 9... great video btw, I've just found your channel while wtg for my z50 to arrive. Really enjoying it tyvm.
Hi Roland. Ive just subscribed your channel. Atmosphere, picture quality, music, feeling like traveling as you is all good👍 Btw, do you have any issue with full-frame lens to crop-body? And plz do review 12-28 new DX lens😎
Thank you!! Nice to hear. I have no issue with full frame lenses on Z50. One thing to keep in mind is some full frame lenses don’t have VR built in (and there’s no stabilization in Z50 body) so it makes for shaky video.
nice video.. i'm enjoying your pov vids of places i know.. I'm going to do be using the ftz adapter with my f mount 85 mm 1.8 for similar style images..
In which mode do you mostly shoot? Also, i have a 35mm lens from a dslr, 1.8f. Is it worth buying the adapter or saving for the dedicated Z lens? Thank you! Your work is awesome, plenty of inspiration.
Thank you! I shoot in Manual mode the whole time. Now that I’m used to changing the dials without looking it’s perfect. Plus I generally have time to switch settings between shots. I’ve seen videos that say the Z mount 35mm is sharper than the DSLR version. I’d get the FTZ adapter if you’ll be using more F mount lenses in the future. If not I’d save for the Z mount lenses. I have the 35mm and 85mm, they’re amazing!
@@RolandKaufmannthank you for your answer. Which mode do you mostly recommend for a beginner-enthusiast? Also, it would be really helpful if you can share your camera settings from the menus (if you didnt already as i watched your videos until this one we are commenting on). Merry Christmas!
@@raraalexno problem! For beginners there’s no problem shooting in auto. If you’re not happy with results from that I’d switch to shutter or aperture priority. That will teach you to change only one setting at a time. I really should make a full settings video one day. For now I’d recommend checking out Jared Polin’s video on Z50 settings. Thanks so much! I have both so that’s a tough decision haha. The 50-250 is a reallly good lens for the Z50. The VR it has makes for an amazing combo. If you’re going to upgrade to full frame down the road then the 85mm could make that journey with you… like I said. Tough choice haha.
Nice! I see that photo of the biker. It looks to be doing well with action photos? I am thinking of using it to take pics of my son's basketball games.
Thanks! Oh yes it will do sports photography quite well! Will depend how close you are to the action. I wanted to shoot some photos of my friends mountain biking, but wasn’t able to this year 🥲.
Either no lens is attached, or the attached lens is a non-CPU lens. To shoot with a non-CPU lens, change the shooting mode to "P", "S", "A", or "M". This prbm solution please?
Hey, I’ve been following and watching through a bunch of your videos. They were top quality and I learned a lot. I also have the z-50 with the 16-50 kit lens and wanted to get new lens. Do you have any recommendations for a lens? I mainly use it to take photos of people, family and photos for Instagram, thanks!
Thanks so much for the kind words! I would highly recommend the Nikkor Z 35mm 1.8 S. It was my first prime lens and it’s amazing. I’ve made a handful of videos on the channel with it.
@@RolandKaufmann Thanks soo much for the reply. One last thing, I want a more budget option for the z50 and want to decide between the Viltrox 23mm AF 1.4 and the Nikon 24mm 1.8 dx, which ones of the two would you recommend?
Hey i have nikon z6ii i want to make cinamatic video because i live in mountion range would you sugges me to go with 35mm 1.8 ?? And sorry for my bad english😢
Thoses F1.8 from nikkons are really good, i have the 50mm and love the images i take with it on both my Z6 and ZFC ^^ I'm wondering if i should take that 85 ( since the 50 is already pretty nice ) or wait for the 135 that's on the roadmap to get a really bit jump in range since it will probably be a F1.8 too, that's basically be a 200mm F1.8 equivalent on a DX camera :)
Hmmmm that’s a tough call. I went with the 85 because I have the 35 as well. If you tend to crop in on your 50mm shots a lot then the 85 field of view could be useful. The 135 would be insane on the Z/50/30/fc 👀
@@RolandKaufmann Well... now we know that said 135mm is a prenium lense at 2999€... i'm sure it is insanely good but... i think a 105 macro would be better for me, at least it had VR and a way lower price while offering some great close up shots :)
