Kia and Hyundai has really poor design engineering, inadequately designed electric powertrains where they tend to overheat and fail prematurely. MOBIS 36500-0E710 and Hyundai Gearbox fail on every EV after 60k km and costs 9500 Euro

Hello, would be possible to add extra battery in luggage space? I have 453ED with good battery but have nice source with li-ion poich cell and modules to make it in good price

The Hyundai Kona through 2023 has similar issues and a very similar gear reducer design. The round particle magnet moves around and releases ferrous particles back into the oil and in some cases takes out the input and intermediate shaft ball bearings. I do note this one has tapered rollers on the intermediate shaft. The Kona motor also suffers bearing problems from outer race as we see here.

Thank You for this video! It was interesting to see the insides of the drive unit. (And the "design" of it.) Also I found interesting how MB made a tube frame to mount the drive unit in place of a diesel. 😂 This video makes me so happy, that when looking for a mini bus EV for my wife we did NOT shell out the extra money for MB. Instead we got the Peugeot. MUCH better choice in retrospect.

I did a 140KWH model s pack in 2016 I still use it completely offgrid 16-24 mv 103kwh usable 40-50v range 34kw of solar I added coolant to water supply heat exchanger and set max temp to 36*c to keep modules cool. This was needed after i went from 24kw of solar to 34kw of solar

When I was removing battery modules out of the battery case I folded the lid up and it pushed on the plate that has the fuse and busted the fuse on a few of the modules so I bent it back down and soldered the fuse back on been like that for 8 years no problems but I use mine for home storage

I was actually looking to buy a Mercedes EQC but after reading what you wrote about them I think I'll go with a diesel or petrol vehicle. I guess there is a reason they are so cheap on the used market.

This is how we do it!
while storage is most obvious or common sense solution to old/defective EV batteries, I feel that it is now not worth it for storage due to dropping LFP prices and superior chemistry for storage. Consider the labor and cost developing solution for these old batteries, only to be replaced in just a few years.
He already mentioned it, they reuse everithing, not only the batterys. So i guess what we see there in that installation is 95% reused parts and only 5% new ones. If do it on your own, you save a ton of money. Buying a new stationary pack like this with 150 kWh ,man you pay a arm and a leg for it (i estimate around 40 - 50k €)....
if as a business he sells a pack in a car and he gets the faulty pack as a core. if he can't or it's not worth repairing he adds the modules to his solar banks.
I have 8 years offgrid on my 28 tesla modules they are perfect

Teslas early LDUs have design defects and they have improved the design since. This is why some early Teslas came with a lifetime Drove Unit warranty. They were learning.

From following Bjorns videos, it seems the Soul is great for urban and in-range trips, but suffers a bit on long trips with multiple rapid charges. I do wonder if all the Souls being seen with damaged batteries have been used for long, high speed trips, as my 2016 has 96.8% SOH at around 65-70,000 KM; and this hasnt dropped in the 2 years, 10-15,000 KM I have put on the car. (Estimates, as I use miles). I only make a few out of range trips per year, and cruise at 100KPH, as the brick-like nose causes big drops in efficiency over that speed. I 100% slow charge once per month at 3KW, to balance the cells, and even a normal home charge, I set my charger to 5.5KW, rather than full power, and to 80% only. My 27KWh battery has maintained 26.1 KWh of storage over those 2 years, actually gaining nearly 0.5KWh over the initial state I bought it in, as the cells badly needed a balance; my min/max voltage variation is only +/- 0.01volts, and my worst cell has 10.8% degradation. High speed driving and high speed charging both cause high temperatures, especially in a few banks of the battery pack that are difficult to cool.
I have a non charging Smart ED. Will a used charger work directly or must it be adapted some way?

Have you ever cleared a CHG_f012_hw_FastChargeDriver fault? I have a feeling its a code stored in the eeprom somewhere and cant be cleared normally. Your videos are awesome!

If this is 3x16A unit, how does it perform 7kW (32A) AC? Is there any realy which connects L1 and L2, or it reuses supercharing bypass relays to connect L1 and L2, and therefore making HV battery live at mains voltage (lost of glavanic isolation)?
I'm doing 2020 model 3 long range upgrade also! Did u have any issues we should be aware of? I had a guy here in US that programs the MCU to long range. This is first one we doing on my first model 3 battery swap
