Best Weather Pattern for Rounding Cape Hatteras Southbound and WHY
Просмотров 3,4 тыс.2 года назад
Cape Hatteras demands respect for sure, but if you pick the right weather window, this can be an awesome sail...if not a little chilly. In this video I am going to explain why it makes sense to leave the Chesapeake Bay to round Hatteras southbound after a cold front. I'll talk about some of the basic dynamics of mid-latitude weather systems as well. #weather #forecast #Capehatteras #meteorology...

Barnacle Buster Engine Cooling Therapy

This was a revelation for us...we were heading off for Panama and all of a sudden had a hot starboard engine when we really revved up the power. We were not previously aware of just how fast minerals can deposit in heat exchangers and how that makes the engine cooling less efficient. If you want to avoid some itching apply baby powder to exposed skin before starting. Im a carpenter and learned that trick from some insulators.

    One tip for fiberglass is baby powder...use it on your skin to fill the pores before you start working with glass.

    Question if that section of your video is a weak an unacceptable peice from first construction Meaning chop strand with no integrity, then Why are you doing one section as opposed to grinding back the length of the keel and reinforce The foot of the entire keel? Use some chop strand then apply a couple or 3 layers of 1708 about a foot up on the bottom and Both sides of the keel! Also, if you would use Polyester for the repair or vinylester then you could save some funds. I addition you mentioned a void in the foam due to water intrusion the chemicals are not going to absorb the water! Do you have a Mousture Meter? That would answer many questions. Just Sayin!

    Chin up up ; chief , I like Andy too, there are more ways to “ skin a cat”. ( I love cats). I go with the smallest laminate first , then build up . More adhesion. Bagging is great if possible, Check out every body , experience is the best. After that , meeet your long board

      That’s also wrong, putting a heavy” mustard plaster” , too many layers at once , the patch fails.will fall off. Also no bubble popping

    For the viewers…Epoxies have many formulations for different use cases (they are not all the same). It is important to select an epoxy for the application: existing material(s) to which the epoxy will bond, strength characteristics (not all epoxy is flexible), surface prep, final depth of fill, ambient conditions, and time to cure. Manufacturers specs are crucial. Silica hardens the matrix (a bit like aggregate in concrete) not change brittleness appreciably (unless too much is added). If the manufacturer doesn’t spec silica adds, experiment on sample coupons before doing the actual repair.

    You're full of crap everything you just said contradicts itself if that keel broke for that specific reason then you should be stripping all the glass off of it and redoing it... otherwise your repair is pointless not only that all resins for fiberglass are epoxy resins and if you're using something different than was used to build the boat it won't bond properly. If it was built with polyester resin than the repair needs to be done with polyester resin. I hate when people have a big mouth to talk trash about others job you just making yourself look bad. That should be ground back a lot further than the measly 4 in you sanded. It's going to be so thick and not feathered enough it's highly likely that patch job is going to pop right off 🤦‍♂️

    Nice vid. I'm getting ready to do this procedure next weekend. Got a 31' sportfisher that is having the same problem with the starboard engine. Only when getting the revs/speed up, do I have a heating issue. Already tried the easy route (t-stats and impellers) and no it's the Barnacle Buster route. Hoping we have the same luck as you folks. Appreciate the vid!

    • @Lifgun
      @Lifgun Год назад

      You mean in general or the way I've cut him away ? I'n general there was no other way to control the situation, since the furling gear was not working anymore on the broken bowsprit, it's just not possible (at least for me) to lower the sail onto the deck without producing a big mess and some possible dangerous situations...but yes...maybe there are some other solutions which not came up to my mind....

    • @towhitby1
      @towhitby1 Год назад

      Well I’ve had an asymmetric halyard snap offshore and the whole damn sail go in the water and under the boat….it took an hour but 2 of us managed to recover it little by little. Obviously single handed totally different ball game but weren’t you tempted to just harden the sheet and lower the halyard and see if you could control the sail onto deck and down a hatch?

    Lots of hate on the balsa schionning .....but have you seen they now do complete kits in foam core? Guys with your experience and following surely could get a sponsored build on? THAT would make for some serious views surely! Meanwhile I'm in NZ and looking for same sorts of boats as you mention and this option from schionning is looking the best. Would love your thoughts!

    • @angela1984a
      @angela1984a Год назад

      They have answered similar questions before. IIRC: They don't want to take on a project of that magnitude. And I also don't think they want to spend that amount of time on a boat build. They would much rather find an existing boat that they can do a quicker refit on. That's a much faster path to get back out sailing.

    I had malignant melanoma removed from my lower back in 2004. Initially, the physician failed to close the incision properly and it eviscerated. The pathology report showed sufficient tissue of the margins were not removed and the entire thing had to be repeated. As Lorie said, early detection is extremely important. Unfortunately, many folks hesitate over trust issues with health care professionals related to misinformation. Thanks for getting the correct information out there.
