    25:41 The shunting sensor doesn’t have to be on the platform; you can place it between Amagasaki and Osaka, enabling the train to be in shunting mode for less time. I’ve found a use for that sort of shunting with IC trains going to dead-end stations, it’s not perfect but better than it driving at 30kph the whole way back. I had trouble figuring out the loco coupling, thanks for the explanation!

    • @JamieTheEpicz
      @JamieTheEpicz 6 месяцев назад

      Thank you for the clarification! I just assumed it could only be placed on platforms (and was silly enough not to try elsewhere) given that's how it was presented on the update page. This would certainly make it more useful than I presented and I'll probably revisit it again once I've got some time.

    Jamie, thanks for this informative video, and thanks for all the content you post for Rail Route. You have been incredibly helpful on my journey of discovery with the game. In this video, you certainly helped me get a better appreciation of the Loco decoupling feature, so thank you. As for the Shunting sensor I, like you, have found it a little difficult to see the real usefulness of the feature. However, having seen what you did with it in this video, I wonder if it could be inserted between the Stabling sensor and a Shunting group to reverse the whole train on the way into the shunting group, if required? As for the relay sensor, it is really a low rent routing sensor. I use it where I have a longer distance between a departure sensor and the next sensor, be that Routing or Arrival, which means that as a train passes over it, the previous section of track is unlocked. In turn, this allows you to fill longer sections of track with moving trains. It also means you can reduce the use of the 'permanently on' sections of track (with the infinity symbol.)

    • @JamieTheEpicz
      @JamieTheEpicz 6 месяцев назад

      I'm glad the videos have been helpful in helping you learn the game! This has been one of my biggest aims with this channel. As of writing this I learnt that the shunting sensor doesn't need to be placed on a platform, see francescorasmus' comment, so this would certainly increase it's usefulness especially on dead end platforms. As for reversing trains before they get to the stabling group, it is possible to do this all in one set of shunting commands given to the train by the stabling sensor. The method you have mentioned could also work but I'm uncertain on how the shunting sensor would interact with a train already in shunting mode, I've yet to try something like this. And thank you for the comments on the relay sensor, I will get round to using it very soon!

  • @GwKP
    @GwKP 6 месяцев назад

    What an thoughtfull addition to the game, one very realistic one too. Thank you for the in-Detail explanation of those methods. The Relay Sensor is, as you said an Routing Sensor for the beginning, as it automaticly sets One pre determined route (A->B). Its usefull for Setting Signals from further away, not more not less.

      @JamieTheEpicz 6 месяцев назад

      Thanks for confirming my thoughts on what the relay sensor does; I will have a better look at it at some point. I'm glad the video helps and I hope you can find some good uses for these new features!

    • @JamieTheEpicz
      @JamieTheEpicz 6 месяцев назад

      Yes I did just watch it, my only suggestion to try would be waiting until the train reaches the final station of the first leg and once it stops it should go white, then for the minute it's stopped at the station (after going white) try putting in the commands then. If this doesn't work then I'm guessing there is potentially some kind of bug.

  • @petermiddo
    @petermiddo 7 месяцев назад

    Release 18 dropped overnight (Australian Time) and I think that contract separation you're talking about came with that.

  • @JCPowerfull
    @JCPowerfull 7 месяцев назад

    Question. When you get your first 3 red research points, you have to choose between freights and regional trains, as they are the only way to get more red research points. When you however choose regional trains and spend these 3 red points, you dont have any research points left to research shunting command etc. So you are supposed to stable your regional trains outside the platform without using the shunting commands. How?

    • @JamieTheEpicz
      @JamieTheEpicz 7 месяцев назад

      There are solutions to this! Shunting commands are used to store regional trains off of platforms i.e. on other designated sections of track laid out. However, earlier on before you have the luxury of shunting circuits and commands one solution is to simply let the train sit at a platform (similar to how you would with a freight train) it will move to one end of the platform but other than that just leave it be. Then 1 minute before it is required to begin it's next leg (starting at the same station it finished the previous one at) a notification will pop up to accept the contracts next leg, click this and then another will pop up (on top of the train) with two arrows and then click on this one (this is to reuse this train for the next leg). It should then change to the colour of the next station on it's schedule and after it's sat for a minute (if required by its schedule) it'll want to depart. Departure sensors will automatically dispatch it and reverse it (if needed) but do keep an eye out to just make sure it does. This above is the simplest I can think of, you can make make shift shunting yards without the circuits similar to what I did in this video, probably even simpler but beware you will need to manage each step of it moving around at the right time since you can't queue anything. And I'm not sure this would be worth it or really even necessary. In short I think the easiest way is to leave them sitting on platforms and repeat this enough times to build up enough xp to unlock shunting commands and circuits. I hope this helps!

    • @JCPowerfull
      @JCPowerfull 7 месяцев назад

      @@JamieTheEpicz Thank you, I will give it a try. I didnt know there is a pop-up coming. I always sent the train manually directly to the "second" platform to wait there for the second leg to start, but it never stopped in the middle of the platform, it went to the end of the platform. So it ignored the schedule and it didnt even trigger the departure sensor. I think this might be a problem for players not knowing how to do this, because if they research regional trains before freights, and they dont know how to stable manually, they get stucked and its basically game over for them. So I thought maybe it was intention to have players choose freights first and do at least 3 freights before continuing with regional trains.

    I think I've found a bug,. When a regional train is late to it's platform on it's second or subsequent visit, it doesn't get acknowledged as having arrived at the platform. Things got sideways from there. There will be a video coming out, I've recorded it but haven't edited it right now, and I've brought this up in the Discord server, so I will wait for an answer officially.

      @@JamieTheEpicz It turned out not to be a bug, but a "nut loose between keyboard and chair" issue. The issue I was issuing the shunting commands as the trains approached the station at the end of the first leg. This would make the trains not recognise the platform and sail straight through. It can be fixed, but it's a process. I'll do my own video

  • @creativefox6066
    @creativefox6066 7 месяцев назад

    I think the game lost its balance since the shunting popt up. I get loads of greens. But the regional trains are very difficult to manage. To difficult I think. And most maps aren't build for shunting. To little space for the yards. Hope there are coming better maps where there is room for shunting yards. Thanks for the vid.

    • @JamieTheEpicz
      @JamieTheEpicz 7 месяцев назад

      Yes I do agree! They are certainly a challenge and the space on most maps isn't too well suited. I do believe that shunting has been added to make it harder to automate and have replaced coach yards for the earlier stages of the game (as previously they made it very easy to automate both xp types). So I think the best way to overcome this (I'm not saying it's easy), is to build them where you can, don't worry about how permanent they are, and when you unlock the coach yards, replace shunting with them since coach yards only take up 1 tile; they are a shunting yard in 1 tile.

    • @qhuezimlawrence3283
      @qhuezimlawrence3283 7 месяцев назад

      I actually don't use the shunting method, like you said, unless you have the room its difficult to manage. I like the using the coach yard method , its a much easier method and less space taking up. Once you have the train setup and running. Its more of a set it and forget it. Much better than shunting. you just got to have the coach yard at the station where the regional train break between legs.

    To let you all know there is a minor mistake with the design of the shunting yard/group built at Osaka which I found after testing more after this was posted. It seems that the game requires having only one way in and one way out of the yard (from what I can tell, I'm not certain on the requirements though). I will mention this and how I fixed it at the start of the next Washington video, Washington #7. EDIT: After going back and testing it again, (a few weeks after this upload) the design I had does in fact now work, I don't know whether this was fixed in any of the hot fixes following this update. I don't believe I made any mistakes for it not to work originally, but do let me know if you spot any!

    To leverage your arrival and departure sensors as much as possible you need to configure the network such that trains departing from stations will be routed to a branching line where each branch goes to a different station. Each branch would have a separate signal/arrival sensor pair that the departing sensor would route to according to the train's next destination. The lack of a routing sensor will limit the amount of signals you can have on the lines between stations and thus lower the throughput, but at least everything will be automated.

    Following along and purchased the game due to your channel so thanks 🙏. Can you do a video covering shunting etc that is coming in the next update ? Thanks 🙏

      Yes I certainly want to at some point! It may not necessarily be with the current series (Washington) since we are a little ways off it yet. However, I could certainly make another video when I get time to and play on another map with the creative options turned on to test it. I'm sure I'm as intrigued as you for how it all works as it's something completely new!
