Peter Capaldi is my favorite Doctor and it was really hard to see him go. But Jodie is probably my second favorite. I’m sure you’ll grow to love her.

This hurt the most. I almost wanted to say "I'm out for a while" because I'm not the biggest fan of 13. But the way you reacted to her kinda wants me to explore this era with some new eyes now. I won't spoil anything. I can share my opinions afterwards. There will always be people who disagree anyway. All I'm saying is that I didn't like this era. Maybe it'll change. But for the record, I'm currently watching the show again with a bit more excitement and engagement. Initially, I stopped watching entirely after series 11. It's just all SO different than what we were used to...

I'm rushing to say it now. I really liked the ending of the Master and Missy, it was beautiful. Many people didn't like this episode, not only because the Doctor became a woman, but rather because they thought the episode was boring, they expected action, but there was none. I think people are spoiled, forgive me in advance. By the way, this is another series where there were no villains, for which I love this series, because I don’t see anything wrong with releasing a good series without villains, especially ending the story so beautifully, the first doctor, the magical moment of Christmas, where everyone stopped fighting - People wanted action, older people liked the kindness of this series, the younger generation did not like this boring ending, they did not see the miracle, where in the end people just made peace for one day, these people either do not know those times and what war is, or are not yet mature enough to understand how terrible war is and how great a miracle it was, for the warring parties to play football and not fight, this could not happen! But it happened! Unfortunately, not everyone understood how great a miracle it was. I do not blame such people, they are not to blame, I just feel sorry that such people do not understand this, I hope they will understand later, when they grow up. By the way, although I fell in love with Clara through my friend, I didn't love her completely, I was missing something to love her completely, but after a season of her absence and when she was shown only for 10 seconds, I was screaming with joy, how sweet it was, these 10 seconds finally became the key moment to love Clara completely, I realized that I still like her. The last thing I will say is that I didn't want to lose Capaldi so much that I postponed the Christmas episode as long as possible. A year later, the new season was supposed to come out, half a year passed, and I still couldn't decide, and when there were only 1-2 months left before the premiere, I was finally ready to say goodbye to him. When Capaldi was making his speech, I wasn't ready to let him go, I was missing something to cope with his farewell, then Capaldi said "Doctor, I'm letting you go" it was this phrase that gave me relief and I was finally able to let him go with a smile, and then he started to regenerate, and I let him go with a smile and kindness. Bye Doctor.

I have to say i'm very surprised you not aware that there is a female Dr. Who since there's been all over the news. This now confirms the Doctor is gender fluid unfortunately there's some fans out there that have trouble accepting that.

I always wondered how authentic the German lines in this episode were. Now I know! Ignore the haters from here on in. It’s shame that fans of a show ostensibly about change don’t appear to be able to handle change. Anyway, I love Jodie’s Doctor, not least because it’s good to hear my own Yorkshire accent on the Tardis. And Jodie’s is totally authentic - although you might need subtitles here and there! I also recommend watching the bits prior to the first Jodie ep that she did once you get into it - the BBC reveal, crashing the Her Universe fashion show, surprising US fans at a photo shoot, her and the team reacting to the first screening of the first ep and, latterly, all the super competitive ‘behind the scenes’ challenges they did. Funny and endearing.

An interesting phenomenon happened after this episode. Suddenly the social media was full of comments denigrating the idea of a female Doctor. "Nurse Who" was a common phrase. Also the idea that the Tardis would be littered with brassieres. Nonsense like that. People had decided they were going to hate Doctor Who with a female Doctor. Naturally there was pushback. "Oh, don't be so sexist", other people said. This continued until the first episode with the new Doctor. Suddenly the number of sexist comments diminished significantly. Some people still hated it, but mysteriously, very few of them hated it because of the female Doctor. 'Oh, it's not because the Doctor is female. It's the writing." they said, and continue to say. (Or whatever. The writing was the most common criticism. It's an easy thing to criticise - you don't have to justify your claim that it's bad writing, just saying it is enough. I mean, what constitutes good or bad writing is entirely a matter of opinion for viewers, and you don't have to justify your opinions like you would have to justify sexist comments.) I think the point is that once you have decided you're going to hate something, you will find reasons to hate it. They may or may not be the original reasons that you decide to hate the thing for, but people sure do like to be right. It's called confirmation bias. It is weird though, in a programme where everything changes every few years. You'd think people would have received the memo that their expectations are going to be confounded, and start looking forward to whatever comes next, rather than desperately clinging on to what came before. Oh, well. People, eh?

Brilliant episode. Peter is a phenomenal actor. He is my favourite Doctor and I still miss him.

I can't believe you managed to avoid the spoiler that the Doctor became a woman! Well done for that. This regeneration must have been a bit of a shock 🤣. We all knew it was coming at the time. In Classic Who, I don't think there was a suggestion timelords changed gender. They threw in some comments in previous series of New Who and, of course, we had Missy! Even so, changing the Doctor was a biggie (and divisive)

This is a great episode. 8.3 is a bit low, but I think it might be because some people were butthurt over the 1st Doctor coming across a bit misogynist? Maybe? IDK either really. I loved it. So glad he got his Clara memories back. Testimony can only remember the dead, and everyone dies eventually, so yeah, this means Clara, Bill & Nardole are not immortal. And btw Rory is an underrated companion, he should be on any Best Of list. I'm surprised RUclips cared about a copyright ding for Silent Night! I mean, pretty sure it's been like more than 70 years after the death of the author, which I think is the legal standard here in America, I have no clue about Germany.

Without any spoilers, some of the next doctors stories are so great, while others are a bit… shaky at best. Please dont give up on this show when there are some low quality dips, as it does get better again, especially the next doctor. If you see a really bad one, have an open mond for the next episode.

You are actually in a very enviable place. you can do what none of us at this point really can: you can watch the episodes with completely fresh eyes without any preconceived bias.

Peter Capaldi was by far the best doctor IMHO

It’s not too surprising that this episode is rated lower than the last one, the last two parter is one of the most beloved stories in the show’s entire history whereas this one unfortunately has a few problems plot wise and with the handling of the First Doctor (which is my main issue with it since the First Doctor was never sexist and didn’t treat his female companions that way). I’m sure some of the people did react poorly to the 13th Doctor as well though sadly.

Can only speak for myself of course but my reason for giving this a low mark was finding the episode thoroughly boring at the end of what I found to be a hugely disappointing final season for Capaldi. Perhaps others were motivated by prejudice against a woman playing the doctor as there was certainly a backlash at the time but I was more than ready for a change at that point. Can't understand why it was acceptable to those fans for the Master to become female but not the Doctor. We also saw a Timelord regenerate as a Timelady in season 9's "Hell Bent" so there were precedents.

I have to ask you this question Nicologik though because i know you get really overly upset whenever the Doctor changes maybe because i've seen all 14 Doctors regenerate over the years and i'm use to to them changing i been watching it since the beginning i actually find regeneration more of an interesting experiment than a sadness but ask yourself let's forget about the actors for a moment and go with the Doctor as the character him/herself. Would you have rather the Doctor had not regenerated and die? Or had him regenerate and survive? Because if the Doctor hadn't changed he would be dead anyway, while it's always sad to see the actors go but the Doctor him/herself isn't gone he just regenerates but is the same character. The original surviving footage of the first ever regeneration from the First Doctor (William Hartnell) to the Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton) is the only surviving portion of the original episode "The Tenth Planet: Episode 4" as that episode is sadly missing and no longer exists due to the BBC's deletion of episodes due to the junking policy back in the day when they thought black and white episodes would be of no future value. I wasn't the biggest fan of David Bradley's take on the First Doctor because i felt they written him abit too far with the sexist jokes, i understand why they did it because it was reflecting of the time of the First Doctor the 1960's but felt the writers and showrunners got abit carried away with it because i don't recall the real First Doctor William Hartnell ever saying things like that.

I really am not a fan of this episode, my main problem is the portrayal of the First Doctor in it. I love the 1st Doctor, he's top 4 Doctors for me (1, 7, 9. 12).but for some reason Moffat decided to depict him as a sexist caricature of the 1960s in general but that's not who the character is, Yes he did once threaten to spank his granddaughter Suzan but outside of that you never get the impression that he's a raging sexist who thinks women are inferior to men. The most you get at the start of his era is him thinking that humans in general are inferior but as his era progresses you see him grow and begin to like and trust humans due to his travels as well as his companions. People who think of 1 as this old grouchy, sexist old man haven't really watched the era. So yeah I find it hard to like the episode when all that happening but another issue I have is that this episode was effectively filler, there was absolutely no need for this episode to exist and if it didn't then it would have made 12 regenerating last episode the best regeneration story we ever had, so after the wonder that was the season 10 finale the downgrade of this episode makes it look even worse in my eyes

Yes the Doctor is now a woman who is the 13th and 1st female Doctor which she unfairly got critisised for because of it, this was big and controversial news at the time and has unfortunately and sadly caused a big division in the fandom i'm personally not against the idea, infact i embrace it and welcome the idea and was excited about it when i first heard on the news that the next Doctor was a woman at the time. Of course i better warn you your probaly going to get the usual nonsense like every reactor has in the comments "R.I.P. Dr. Who 1963-2017" "Oh the Doctor's always been male" "Oh Jodie's fake" "Oh it's gotten too political" blah blah blah from people who are anti-Jodie and are misogynists saying crap like that so best to ignore them, and not let people dictate and put off what you enjoy.

Peter went from my least favorite modern doctor to my favorite. He was just... fantastic. So the tears are relatable lol. Jodie got screwed over by bad writing but she really did her best. I hope you enjoy series 11:)

Such a wonderful reaction for Peters finale, lots of tears and brilliant how nobody spoiled the new Doctor for you. In the uk they revealed the female doctor Jodie 18 months before her first episode when Peter still had 1 seasons left. Excited to see your journey continue.

And that's the end of Dr Who😂. It takes a serious nose dive from here on out. Current theres rumours it might get cancled its so bad. They completely destroy the history of Who from here gping forward. Chances are IF there is another season of Who, it will be the last as Disney are not happy with it and it has the worst viewing numbers in history.

Definitely there was an insane "not my Doctor" backlash against the 'uber-woke' BBC for having the sheer temerity to cast a woman But also whilst people generally adore David Bradley, the implication the First Doctor was some kind of misogynist sexual conservative doesn't really jive with his actual portrayal in the 60s run, and I have a lot of sympathy for that Regrettably I sense adherents of the former often use the latter to justify their position. "Can't say that these days amirite?!"

Some lovely touches in this episode including the restoration of the Doctor's memories of Clara and the Cptain being the grandfather of the Brigadier and the great grandfather of Kate. The first Doctor never met the Brigadier. He first met the second Doctor in 1968 when he was a lieutenant-colonel in the regular army, but went on to be one of the founders of UNIT. He was longer lasting than any single companion appearing on and off with multiple Doctors from 1968 to 1989 and even appearing in the Sarah Jane Adventures during the new era. That is why he is referenced so often.
