The key doesn't call the TARDIS, the key just lets Rose know when the TARDIS is landing.
The Doctor *can* remotely activate the TARDIS with his Sonic though, but only to make it dematerialise - he has to set the controls manually first.

At series 8 Finale he summoned the TARDIS while in freefall from the crashed plane.

@@zvimur No he didn't, it fell out of the plane before him and he dove towards it.

I don't think you did remember correctly, I don't think the Ninth Doctor ever told Rose she could use her key to call the Tardis to wherever she is. However, there is a moment in "Father's Day" when the Doctor seems to "recall" the Tardis with his key, and you might be thinking of that? But that was a scenario where the Tardis had sort of been wiped from existence (we see him open the doors earlier to find it's just an empty police box) so he's actually using his key to bring the Tardis back into reality rather than moving it from one location to another.

As for this episode, the rating is low because people thought it was stupid that the great monks were defeated by an imaginary mother.
But for me personally, this is one of my favorite episodes, many people underestimate how much an imaginary character can influence your life. Moreover, everything is explained well there, no matter what lies are happening in the world, your personal inner imaginary world is the purest and untouched by others, there is no place for lies.

The Monk Trilogy is my favourite of the Capaldi era.

As long as Orwell's "1984" will be remembered, totalitarian distopies will recurr in literature/cinema/TV.

I apologise for my ignorance about politics generally: it’s a major blind spot for me. But having looked it up… Trump, Putin, Le Pen… und jetzt? There are some very worrying trends.
I love this episode, with its Orwellian police state and I think it makes the last one better by extension. I totally agree this is a much better episode. And I agree that Missy turning… “gude” … would be wrong!

I won't talk about politics, at least here, but I know what's going on. I really do, but I won't talk about it.
I can only say that we are entering a new era, like the era from the Middle Ages with swords and bows moved to tanks, autonomous vehicles, cars, light from lanterns and phones, now it's happening again, the world will be different and will never be the same.

Finally, I'm back after a long time.
I said earlier that I made the community rethink theirs and convince them that Capaldi is a doctor after all, I wanted to tell you what post I convinced them with, but then I changed my mind about writing this to you, I also wrote to you about this, Nicole, since it could give you a hint that River Song will appear, so I said that I would tell you another time. (I wrote this to you in season 8, part 2)
Here is the moment (in fact, I was supposed to write this in the Christmas episode, but you left and I was busy), I will copy the post and paste it here:
    ___________________________
An interesting part of the Doctor's character, when he began to change.
A small bombardment to those who complain that the Doctor is no longer the Doctor, that he allows someone to die without emotion and compassion, that Tennant was that Doctor, the rest are not very Doctor-like.
A few facts to dispel your Tennant ideal.
The Doctor began to change with the Library.
Tennant didn't care about the remaining survivors, he cared about what happened to Donna and often gave up his emotions to other, already dead characters, but the rest were still alive.
River - Listen to me, you lost a friend, you're angry, I understand, you need to be less emotional.
    Doctor - I'm not emotional!
River - There are five other people alive in this room, concentrate on that, oh my God, how hard it is for the young ones!
Doctor - Young? who are you?!
When River convinced the Doctor by whispering his name, it was from that moment that he began to change at the request of River Song and turn into Smith, who began to learn about the world anew, as well as to learn about River and grow up to a new level, limiting himself to the phrase "I'm sorry", after which he regenerated into Capaldi, having already fully mastered and learned to keep his cool, accepting the facts as they are, without interfering with emotions to reason a sound decision. (Inside the Dalek: - I thought you would save him! - He was already a corpse, I was saving us!) etc.
PS: I adore Capaldi, I admit, but the Doctor has come a long way and there is no need to say that the new Doctor is not canon or a don't care person, he has simply changed, matured and began to look at the situation more calmly, as facts, but the Doctor still knows how to feel, although he does not show it for review.
    _________________________
After this post, I was able to get most people to accept Capaldi as the Doctor.

7.1 iscaccurate. Its generally regarded as the weakest of the Monk trilogy. The story telling is so shallow with lots of telling, not showing.
