I love ncuti so much it is a huge disappointment that they would waste his season like this. The storyline was too fantastical for new who to begin with, in my opinion. Bigeneration was crazy and clearly not thought out. All of the emotional beats were underpowered by his constant crying. Im almost certain this tone shift was the result of the disney buyout but its so dissapointing to see this fantastic actor be so underutalized. I got really excited when he said that he was going to push everything away and be the happy doctor, because I thought it would be a great emotional storyline to have this nice happy doctor who is quietly being crushed by the weight of all of his regenerations (something similar to tennant, where he would be a goofy happy guy, but when he snapped he was full of bitter anger and sadness that really compelled you to listen to him) but ncutis doctor is all over the place. Happy where it doesnt make sense and crying at everything else. It gives him this strange sense of being completely unempathetic and frankly somewhat stupid.
@masonmcdonald1556 Honestly couldn't agree more mate, considering he was introduced so brilliantly they haven't half butched his characterisation this series by having him make so many contradictory actions and stupid decisions. Its so overtly out of character at this point that half the time he doesn't even feel like the doctor because he's so unintelligent and incapable of controlling his emotions, there's clearly so much potential there and seeing it wasted on such a brilliant actor is just so soul crushing to watch. Except from the end where, upon being faced with racism (and not for the first time, mind you), the _first black Doctor_ completely fails to make even a _single_ valid argument, instead choosing to repeat the same ineffective one again and again before giving up after just a couple of minutes.
I don't even think it needs a full revamp I think they just need to take time off so that they can have a well thought out and structured plan for what they want to do instead of just making shit up as they go along. Reckon they could do that in 5 years
They should've ended DW with the 12th Doctor, because nowadays they don't do it "out of love", nope they do it because of money. Greedy company trying to milk it as much as they can. So obviously the script is rushed and bad, which unfortunately also affects the image of the Doctor. And only a handful of actors can bring a bad script to life, but Ncuti is not one of them.
They also seems to care more about modernizing the show for an imagined more progressive tik tok dance loving gen z audience and jabing at the presumed sins of the last 60 years of Doctor Who than doing what they are capable of as story tellers.
Maybe, but what would've been the point of giving him a new regeneration cycle if he's just gonna not regenerate again? Wouldn't others have wanted to see new Doctors?
I feel the doctor not crying was a thing from repessing the time war and his past companions and 14 is getting therapy. the 15th has had that therapy so is probably doesn't repress things a lot less
There's repressing things less, and then there's crying over everything and anything. I'm not against the idea of the doctor being more open with his emotions, but the execution has been awful.
Actually for the point that he cries alot, every doctor has their own personality and emotions with the memories he has of his past being the only thing that connects them so i dont think its too far fetched to say that this Doctor is more sentimental than others
It is incredibly far-fetched for a character who has been written as an authoritative egotistical hero for 60 years to suddenly go from that to crying over nearly anything and everything. Especially after 15 was introduced specifically to remove the doctors burden, and then he proceeds to break down and lose it every episode
Many will say the same about Tennant. To human, least Doctorish and did things that others Doctors never did before. Even Matt Smith had the same hate back them.
No we don't, as we had more character development from Missy's appearances in the latter half of Series 10 than Fifteen in the six episodes he was properly a part of; to put that in perspective, Missy only really had scenes in Series 10 that were a maximum of 4-5 minutes per episode before her final appearance, yet she had far more development than the _main character_ of Series 14.

The big plan will be to hand over the leadership to the "strong" female partner. Ariel, Snow White... your sister is coming.
No, it's always been political. All sci-fi franchises have. The only difference between now and then is that it feels like they're trying to FORCE us what to think rather than allowing us to have the choice to think whatever we like.
11 and 12 weren't done by the same showrunner but felt like the same character and show as it was when 9 and 10 were running. The men behind 13 and 14 cared more about modernizing the show and putting their decades old wierd fanfics on screen than the show itself.
The reason why the doctor didn’t cry in earlier situations is because he was holding back his emotions. After the bigeneration, he is now a more emotionally mature doctor that’s why he’s always crying
Obviously you have a strong opinion, but... Can't agree, it was a great season, it was nice that the show was back to taking itself less seriously... It's no better or worse than any other RTD season, same blatant plot holes and deus ex machina, I just think people are way more hypercritical of media than they were 19 years ago.
It is way way WAAAAY worse than any other RTD series and it ain't even close, and the show taking itself less seriously isn't an excuse for lazy and contrived writing. And people are just as critical as they were back in the day, if you go through RTD's old series with the same critical lense the majority of it holds up under scrutiny because it's really well written, not the case with series 14, it's just shit.
I couldn't finish this video. It wasn't the best season ever, and certainly not as good as RTD's original run, but your shouting, nitpicking and anger here is annoyingly hyperbolic. There's many valid criticisms in the things you are saying, but it feels like you've started from a place of DECIDING you don't like it and then finding every little flaw you can. There is literally no reason for you to be this angry. I've seen you say in other comments that RTD's previous stuff holds up better than this new era. That's true to a certain extent. But if you approached RTDs old episodes with the same lense you are applying to these new ones, you could find just as many flaws. RTD's plots have never held up to scrutiny when you dig deep. I can appreciate that your video doesn't come from a place of bad faith- you're not just saying "it's bad cos woke". But you certainly seem to be using that same brand of "get views from always being negative about everything" that those types of RUclipsrs make their money from. It's a shame because you've got good production values and editing behind this video, so it's clear you're passionate about what you're making. But when I clicked on this video I was very much hoping for a rational deconstruction of what isn't working about the new era rather than an emotional tirade. I would have subscribed if your arguments were more fairly considered.
I appriteate that you aren't blindly disagreeing with this video and at least gave it a shot but It's hard to take any of your criticism seriously when you haven't even finished the video, none of the criticism I lay out in this video comes from a place of me deciding that I wanted to dislike the new era that's not how I approach the media I review and it never has been. I went into this new era the most excited I've been for Doctor Who since 2018, I was excited when Gatwa was cast in the role and with my favourite writer for the show ever returning fully brought me back into keeping up with the show and being excited for its release again instead of dreading it. Incase it wasn't inherently obvious (which it is) the anger presented in the video is played up for entertainment purposes because it's way more engaging to watch a madman lose his mind while explaining issues over me just explaining why its bad, it would lose 90% of what makes my videos fun to watch. Playing a character while recording also makes it 10x more fun for me to produce. And the notion that if I approached RTD's old episodes with this same lense that they would fall apart is stupid because I approach all doctor who with the same level of scrutiny. The fact of the matter is that RTD's old work, while not perfect, has tones of clever writing in individual episodes and series long arks for stories and characters, which this new era has none of. There's also loads of videos in which I very openly criticize his old era aswell and if I ever get around to reviewing it you can best believe the shit episodes will be criticized just as much. I'm glad you don't think I'm being bad faith but its a bit ironic for you to say I have the mindset of those losers when if I really was just always being negative about everything for the sake of it there wouldn't be a segment in this video dedicated to the clear potential that the 15th doctor has and I wouldn't have stated multiple times in the video that I wanted him to be a better written character. In talking about the negatives of the character writing it inherently makes you have to talk about how it could be better written and other ways in which similar things are well written, if I simply just wanted to be negative I would just say its bad without any citations which this video is filled with. Incase you missed the message at the beginning these clips are from an 8 hour video about series 14, do you really think the video would be that long if I wasn't constantly suggesting improvements the show could make so that the product would be better? Just because the criticism is presented in an angry way doesn't make it invalid criticism.
@@RichieReviewsII It's reassuring to know it's just a character, it can be hard to tell with the internet. I guess it's a case of that character just not working for me then because that's very much what made me quit the video. I do think it's valid to compare you to those other types of RUclipsrs because it is essentially the same sort of character, it's just yours comes from a place of fun whereas there's comes from a place of greed and a weird obsession with culture war stuff. Those others also hide behind the lense of "I just want it to be better" but it's obvious that they don't actually give a shit and are just using the show as rage bait. Again, with you at least it does clearly come from a place of loving the show. I don't think you should dismiss my criticism just because I didn't finish the video. For your interest, I got 48 minutes in which I think is plenty of time for my thoughts to be valid. I did see that you had an ending section titled a hopeful future, and I considered watching it, but ultimately just decided not to give your video any more of my watch time because everything so far just felt TOO hateful for me to be willing to give that section a go. You video isn't completely devoid of positivity, but I think you'd benefit from having that positivity sprinkled a little bit more throughout. Some moments of a wink and a nudge to your audience to show that it's all a bit of fun would go a long way. You only need to look at some of the comments on this video that you haven't liked to see that people are taking your video too seriously. I would be interested to know if you do have some content on here that IS more positive than negative? You spoke in this reply about reviewing some shit episodes from the RTD 1 era but have you considered reviewing some of your favourite episodes instead? I've clicked on a few random videos on your channel and skipped forward to random times on each one but I'm not exaggerating here when I say literally every single moment I skipped to was just you shouting. I can understand if you find criticising things more fun than praising them, but I feel that they way your character comes across at the moment is only emphasising the hate without emphasising the fun. It just feels from what I've seen that all your channel is doing is shitting on something and validating people's hate, rather than being a genuinely fun form of entertainment. I think there is an achievable way to have this form of content but make it more about the fun. I'd recommend checking out www.youtube.com/@HarrysMovingMedia. I think he strikes a good balance of shitting on the show while making it very clear that all of the criticisms are just about having fun. Especially some of his older stuff sounds like what you're trying to achieve here. And I think the key thing to his success is that he isn't afraid to be wholly positive.
@@mutantdevle Yeah that's fairs, icl it is sort of by design made to trick people into thinking I am just insane because they'll comment something about me being a NMD or being sexist or racist which to people who actively watch my channel know has been an inside joke for years as most people will blindly disagree with a video based off the title alone which is quite amusing. I think you also have to take into consideration here that this video is a clip compilation as what you suggested happens all the time in my newer videos where the mask slips and I break character while delivering a joke or a silly example etc. I'm appreciative that you took the time to give constructive criticism but as I can see the analytics of this video I know that most people blindly disagreeing or taking it too seriously haven't even seen the full thing lmao so it's easy to dismiss most of the time as I just think it's poor practice to criticize something if you aren't fully familiar with the content and what its trying to achieve, especially if you haven't finished it. It's funny you should say that as despite most my reviews of the Capaldi era being negative if you go to the very beginning of them you would see that I started reviewing that era because I used to think it was really great and deserved more recognition but as I went through it critically I quickly realized all of it's faults and that it was quite poorly written. It's not by design for me to always be negative but a lot of the show unfortunately has more negatives to talk about than positives. I did however recently review wild blue yonder on my main channel which is an episode that I rate very highly. ruclips.net/video/no9tctKUrxo/видео.htmlsi=LnFtFhDRBNi9ruSC Funnily enough he inspired my doctor who reviews in the first place which is very apparent in my early reviews, I think he strikes a decent balance these days but I like to think I go a lot more critical and in depth with the criticism while playing up the character more as I find that vastly more entertaining and fun to do.
No offense but this video is I don't know what to say about your attempt at even explaining why it doesn't work it's just poorly done on 10 minutes in and I'm surprised I'm even that far in. Like I've had enough and there's an hour and a half of this it just no. And if the series is as bad as you I'm definitely staying away. Trying way too hard
Heyo, I have writen down all the points from the video. There might be more but I have choosen the main ones. I hope it helps to clarify it better: 1) *Bad writing* : plot holes, lucky coincidences, copying, questionable humour, poorly written characters, everything feels forced (mostly the friendship between the Doctor and Ruby), bland story twists 2) *The Doctor breaks his established character* : behaves irrationally, tends not to help aliens, gets emotional all the time (cries over spilled milk => which has zero impact on the viewer, takes away the "drama"), lack of responsibility, kinda oblivious to danger; 3) *Side characters behaving like NPCs* : aka they do what the script tells them to.

I did however recently review wild blue yonder on my main channel which is an episode that I rate very highly. ruclips.net/video/no9tctKUrxo/видео.htmlsi=LnFtFhDRBNi9ruSC
Funnily enough he inspired my doctor who reviews in the first place which is very apparent in my early reviews, I think he strikes a decent balance these days but I like to think I go a lot more critical and in depth with the criticism while playing up the character more as I find that vastly more entertaining and fun to do.
@@RichieReviewsII I've saved the video you linked to my watch later and will let you know what I think once I've watched it :P
What are you trying to say? Use punctuation, my guy.
@@HollowWeird was gonna say 😂 confusing ahh comment
Heyo, I have writen down all the points from the video. There might be more but I have choosen the main ones. I hope it helps to clarify it better:
1) *Bad writing* : plot holes, lucky coincidences, copying, questionable humour, poorly written characters, everything feels forced (mostly the friendship between the Doctor and Ruby), bland story twists
2) *The Doctor breaks his established character* : behaves irrationally, tends not to help aliens, gets emotional all the time (cries over spilled milk => which has zero impact on the viewer, takes away the "drama"), lack of responsibility, kinda oblivious to danger;
3) *Side characters behaving like NPCs* : aka they do what the script tells them to.
Even if the storyline is terrible, Ncuti voice really doesn't work as a Doctor. His voice is not that impactful if he ever gave a speech
Huge disagree, I love his voice, I think he sounds wonderful. He has such a naturally nice sounding charismatic voice that when he's slightly aggressive, I think he works great at delivering speeches. Boom and Dot and Bubble show that he can certainly be impactful when the materials right.
@@RichieReviewsIINot for me, I guess. Because it sounded too soft, if it was a bit rougher maybe it could be better. When I heard his voice in anger, I still thought it was too soft. Charisma is not a problem, I already expect the storyline to be shit after they try to push too much the gay vibe, if it was build up properly it's fine
@@Warrior-of-Light-Zero He sounds perfect. I get that this is your opinion and I get that it's not one I share.
@@kanton4108In 14, 15 was better
@@Warrior-of-Light-Zero I do have to agree with you none of it felt really natural the whole bi-generation thing didn't feel earned like it came out of nowhere and the whole season felt for lack of a better word campy from the musical episode to the fact he seems to lose his ageless observer vibe that is essential to the doctor he needs a certain rough edge and I feel ncuti didn't quite embody he was to soft and did have the gravity that I come to expect from a proper speech from the doctor.
elephant in the room?
In 14, 15 seems more likeable 😂😂😂
dei too hard
I stopped watching after Peter Capaldi, they went woke hard and fast
I do alternate universes on my RUclips channel
